Opening Remarks

[On the Occasion of Dr David Lynch and Dr John Hagelin's Recent Successful Lecture Tour Which Inspired Thousands of College Students]

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. Transcendental Meditation is the field of enlightenment through entertaining bliss. What good luck for mankind that Transcendental Meditation is now being sung through the entertainment platform on one side and, on the other, a very serious platform of science, which practically demonstrates how the brain functions.

‘This is what will be really worth reporting when the transformation is taking place—the real, reliable transformation of the world. We have been repeatedly saying the same thing over and over again, and we will continue to say it over and over again. When the films and the film songs sing the glory of enlightenment—coherent brain functioning—and coherent brain functioning creates coherent national consciousness even in a few countries, it will surcharge all the countries’ national consciousness to be on a high level of integrity, bliss. It is really a good fortune for the world that, after all, the expert entertainers add the most fleeting entertainment in the field of enlightenment. What a joy.

‘Dr John Hagelin, what a joy it is to the scientists when the champions of entertainment are singing the song of enlightenment. What a transformation of time it is and such grand, good luck. Great congratulations to David Lynch from all over the world today in this press conference. It is a very beautiful thing that he is transforming the field of entertainment to be the most serious field of enlightenment, not only on the individual level but from individual to individual, from society to society, from nation to nation.

‘The global voice of today is this enlightenment dancing—enlightenment dancing on the ground of daily entertainment all over. God is playing with the children of the world now, and it can be expected to happen, because we welcomed the dawn of Sat Yuga in our world of Kali Yuga. Just a few months ago, a few weeks ago, we did it. Therefore, David Lynch’s singing the song of enlightenment on the level of entertainment is just the song of Sat Yuga on the ground of Kali Yuga—great, beautiful.

‘The evidence is there. The world is seen to be on the level of transforming, in quite a lot of transformation, when the viewpoints from too much of a superficial level to a most serious level of enlightenment have come up on the surface of the world news. Very good. Well done, Dr David Lynch in the company of Dr John Hagelin and our other scientists.

‘Dr Hagelin, congratulate the world press for seeing this day, when the most serious level of intelligence is singing the song of enlightenment as easily, as frequently, as is the song of entertainment. It is beautiful. I think you have done it; we have done it; the world has done it.

‘Ask them if there are still any questions. The question will be: How did it happen? But let this be a question, and then we will answer it [laughter].’

Question: Knowledge Needed to Guarantee Students Success

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, in the context of this tour, interesting questions have arisen from the students of the world. The first question is: Young people spend their entire student years gaining the knowledge to be successful in life. But even the students who know the most are not always guaranteed success. Maharishi, what should students know, which they do not learn in school, that will improve their chances of success in life?’ 

Maharishi: ‘That is exactly what is going to happen through our efforts of creating groups—creating groups of flyers—who sing the song of bliss, quietly, through their gentle, gentle flights in the air. When the body lifts up in the air, it is the bliss that quietly begins to flow. The bliss sings the song of its own value.

‘Through taking flights, as we establish groups, very naturally the entire field of the environment will have that flow of bliss. Waves of bliss will quietly, peacefully, remedy all the disturbing values, repairing all the disorders and creating a ground of harmony, happiness, fulfilment in the life of everyone. Therefore, no one will be in any way unhappy with anyone. We will be all floating in bliss—the field of entertainment [laughter]. On all levels of life—on the feeling, on the thinking, on the speaking, on behaviour, on all levels—what will prevail is waves of harmony, waves of bliss, the fulfilment of all the pursuits of entertainment. Life will be the play and display of entertainment.

‘ “Entertainment” means that every phase of life will be blissful, just blissful. “Aham Brahmasmi”—I am Totality, I am perfection—and ”Aham Vishvam” are the Vedic expressions of the supreme level of entertainment. It is as if an ordinary farmer becomes a king tomorrow, then all the farms in the country belong to him: “I am the owner of my whole thing. I am the lord of all I survey”. This is the climax of the field of entertainment.

‘It is very good that the leaders of the entertainment world, sitting in one place, are able to switch on the waves of bliss for the whole world consciousness—all over the world.

‘Now the time is already in sight in which the world is rising above all kinds of negativity and shortcomings in life. With fabulous generosity, continued bliss, and happiness, life is going to be waves of entertainment. David Lynch is the one who has put on the switch like putting the finger on the switch of the computer. You press this and then you see this; you press this, you see this. In this case, you hardly have to press [laughter]. It comes with the desire.

‘It is a beautiful result that is happening. Now time will not be long until all the governments will get into the song of life. Our leader of Vastu building—building according to Natural Law—Dr John Hagelin will explain to the world press about the reconstruction of the world—building according to Natural Law.

‘Our champions are collecting the details on how wrongly the present buildings of governments are oriented. Some are oriented towards the south, some are to the west, some are to the corner. All the wrongs and conflicts that exist in society come from wrong orientation of the government buildings. Governments, which are administering laws and all that, are all topsy-turvy, because their buildings are not properly shaped according to Vedic Architecture.

‘One of the Vedic Architects has taken a fancy to this. He sent me the message that he will very soon produce a film which will indicate how these fifty or hundred governments—almost every government— have their administrative buildings wrongly shaped. Vedic Architecture specifies that if the building has its main gate towards the south, it will be very, very difficult. There will be all quarrels, all the negativities, lack of success, and slavery to other countries. All these things have been predicted.

‘Due to foreign rule for centuries in India, this Vedic wisdom has been shadowed. Those who came to rule put up whatever they knew in their administration and that made a mess of a beautiful society based on the Constitution of the Universe—based on Natural Law as was the Indian constitution. Today’s India also has gotten into a mess with its constitution. Now they are like any other country, a democracy—the rule of those who can make a lot of noise on the street to get more votes and make a mess of the whole thing.

‘Now, there is a revival, and the Vedic scholars are starting to wake up in India. Soon with groups of Yogic Flyers, they will create an intense influence of harmony in the collective consciousness of the whole world. That will be a miracle.

‘Very soon, a film will come up to show how the layouts of the administrative buildings of every government are wrong. That is why even though the governments are governed by the vote of the majority of the people, what can the president do? Since he is voted in by all the people, he must be very intelligent and very fatherly to the whole population, but when he is put in a wrong Vastu building, he is put in a building whose influence will be very, very damaging to the thinking of the person who lives there. The very thought of this individual will be completely topsy-turvy. The same man, who is greatly honoured by everyone because he is a very wise man and fatherly to everyone, is a president of the state, but he has been put up in a cage which is abstractly thorny—against Natural Law. Therefore, he is not able to fulfil his promises to the people.

‘Always, every president, every prime minister, every leader in any country always feels, “What more can I do for my people?” But he is encaged in a building, which has that influence of negativity.

‘Now, what is coming up, is a real awakening in the field of the bliss. What is bliss? The flow of Natural Law—the positive flow of Natural Law. All these forgotten values of bliss, the nature of life, are waking up, and soon we will have a good world, a beautiful world.

‘Dr David Lynch has created a wave of bliss in the new field of seriousness. Until now, entertainment was on the field which was not so serious. But now, he has created a wave of bliss in the serious field of life—most serious, harmonizing, integrating, serious.’

Question: The Future Role of National Constitutions

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, there is a beautiful question here for you on the constitutions of countries. Maharishi has explained that national constitutions are limited by the underdeveloped level of intelligence of the founders who wrote the constitution. My question is: When large groups of coherence-creating Yogic Flyers are established in a country and start radiating a positive influence in the whole nation, will the original constitution still be used? Will the original constitution be discarded, or will it be amended somehow to support the health, happiness, and well-being of everyone in the country?’

Maharishi ‘The man-made constitutions do not need to be discarded. Only, the people’s every thought, speech, and action will be guided by Natural Law. “Natural Law” means evolutionary—always evolutionary—and “thoughts always evolutionary” means no one will feel frustrated. It is frustration that causes difficulties in neighbourhoods, and then even the man-made laws are violated. If a man is satisfied, he just goes a right way. The intention of the man-made laws is good, but because the people are not good [laughter], they cannot follow that right path.’ . . .

‘The Constitution of the Universe is evolutionary for everyone and everything. “Everything” means the world of trees, the world of animals, the world of mosquitoes, the world of birds, and the world of suns, moons, stars, and galaxies—huge. There is unlimited diversity, but it is administered perfectly—administered in perfect order. That we want to bring into our world of man everywhere so that man is spontaneously thinking in accordance with the evolutionary direction. “Evolutionary direction” means more and more and more every moment, more and more every moment, more and more and more. When every moment has more and more, it means every moment will be more and more fulfilled, more and more satisfied.

‘This kind of constitution is Natural Law’s constitution—the Constitution of Natural Law. We have known and have been teaching the seven states of consciousness all these fifty years. In the seventh state of consciousness, which is Brahman Consciousness or Unity Consciousness—in whatever language we call it—that unified wholeness of life is lively in any wave of life. In any wave of life, the memory of the ocean is fully awake; so the ocean is awake in any part of its flow.

‘That is order. That is what maintains order in the field of relative life. But if the memory of the one unified value is lacking, then the anchorage is lacking. When one is not anchored to infinity, one would be bickering and uselessly wandering around. Life will never be satisfied on any level with wandering like that.

‘Life will always remain completely fulfilled and orderly if one is in the evolutionary direction, which means spontaneously according to Natural Law. If the awareness of man is awake in the Unified Field, then any diversified flow will not be able to shatter it. And the flow will be blissful, blissful, blissful. In every experience of life the flow of bliss, enlightenment, will be found—the flow of bliss, flow of bliss—evolutionary.

‘It is just a matter of education. We are establishing our universities—Vedic Universities. “Vedic” means pertaining to Total Knowledge. “Veda” means Total Knowledge. We are creating Peace Palaces, a part of which will be dedicated to our universities for Total Knowledge. “University” should mean Total Knowledge: “uni” and “versi”—versified, unified. It should be for Total Knowledge. That Total Knowledge remained until now—for the last so many centuries—a matter of experimentation. Experimentation remained within the test-tube experimentation, but now, it has come on the level of theoretical mathematical equations.

‘What remains for science to discover is the behavioural values within the nature of the Unified Field, so that the Unified Field is not known only by equations, but the Unified Field is known as the writer of equations, as the equation itself, and the goal of equations. The Unified Field has still to be discovered by modern science, but physical modern science will not be able to achieve it. The science of consciousness, Vedic Science, has already achieved it.

‘In our Vedic Science, there is an old proverb, “Nothing is new under the sun.” So the Unified Field is not a new thing. Only, it was not in the awareness. Only human awareness was lacking it; human experience was lacking it. Now, the experience of it is very simple. It has been found to be the self-referral value of one’s own Being, of one’s own existence, of one’s own intelligence. The Transcendental Meditation Technique is for its complete experience. For intellectual understanding, there are any length of Vedic expressions—so many kinds of Vedic expressions—and a Vedic expression in one syllable. This one syllable is the total value of Natural Law, the word “A”, which is the first syllable of the Veda.

‘What is within “A” is expressed in the following expressions as the “A” flows like that, like that, like that. It is like when you are away from a market, you hear the whole, you hear all the noises of the market. There are so many shops, and each shop has its own voice. From a distance, all the voices come together to be a hum, “A”. As you go into it and go into it, more sounds appear within one sound, the total sound “A”. Within one total sound “A”, your awareness appreciates more values of it as its constituents—more values, more values—“A”, “I”, “U”, “Ri”, all these systematically expanding sounds.

‘This is how the one-syllable Constitution of the Universe finds its expansion in the sequential expression of the ancient Vedic text. From time immemorial, the tradition has been that the children memorize the Veda. In this, what are they memorizing? They are memorizing the cosmic law—the law that governs the universe. By memorizing, their whole body is responsible for speaking out those values which, in sequence, display the expansion of the Constitution of the Universe. These values come to the body also. What happens? The body, the tongue and throat and lips and palate, cannot speak anything which is not according to Natural Law—according to total Natural Law.

‘There is a great science behind the children committing the Veda to memory. That means the children are committing to memory the Constitution of the Universe, and thereby training their speech to spontaneously flow in the sequential progression of the total Constitution of the Universe. This is the way to make every thought, speech, action and behaviour of the individual in tune with the cosmic Constitution of the Universe. This is how the individual is, in reality, the expression of the universe—“Aham Brahmasmi”, I am Brahm, I am Totality.

‘This reality of life is due to its own character. It is only due to the tradition of children learning the Constitution of the Universe that they become capable of spontaneously having their thought, speech, action and behaviour according to Natural Law. There is no other way.

‘This is what we are bringing to education. It is not the understanding of law, it is being law, it is saying law, it is speaking the law—total law in complete silence, total law in infinite dynamism. This kind of awareness is really human awareness, which is divine awareness. That is why it is common to say, “Man is made in the image of God.” This, in some words or the other, every religion and every wise man throughout the ages have been singing the glory of this value of life.

‘It is a beautiful thing. We are now producing that thing. Very soon, it will happen. Maybe it will take a long time to make that film of all the wrongly oriented government buildings, and many government buildings will begin to be demolished and new buildings will come up, much before they are able to make the film. I wish that.

‘We are raising a voice, and the filmmakers are making the films. But before they finish the film—we do not know what time it will take for a hundred, two hundred capitals of the world to be seen on the screen—the phenomenon of transformation, though completely abstract, is becoming a practical reality of every nation now. No nation will be able to hide from that—no.

‘Whatever invincibility—in today’s introductory remarks, Dr Hagelin specified how peacefully this beautiful situation can be created in the world—has been created, is being created. It is not a matter of “can it be done now”; it is a matter of no government being able to show its face to the people when the people see how the governments are working very badly, disorderly, and fighting. Every government is dissatisfied, because it is the administrative buildings which are wrongly laid out—all wrongly laid out.

‘But all will be right, and it is going to be so. These champions in the field of entertainment, when they have stepped on to the field, have really amazed the world that something which is so good, has now come up on the table [laughter].’
