Opening Remarks

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. It is a joy to express that Dr Hagelin, the President of the Peace Government of the Global Country of World Peace and the Science and Technology Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, has made it clear to the world in his introduction that today’s governments have a choice: either become invincible and permanent administrators of their countries, and continue to rule their people; or the time is not far off when the governments will be hooted out by the people because they are not competent as rulers. 

‘Administration has its significance only if it can prevent problems. No government in the world today, based on its man-made constitution, is competent to prevent problems or to satisfy the people under its administration. But today in this scientific age every government can become a permanent, sovereign government, never to change, by raising national consciousness to invincibility.

‘Note these words, dear world press: every government today has a chance, by making use of our technology of consciousness, to rise to invincibility. . . .

‘World press, give this message today to your dear nations and to the administrators of your countries. You are all faithful and patriotic, and want your countries to be bright countries. Everyone would like a country free from problems. Inform the governments that today they can rise to that status.’

Question: Administration and Education

Dr Hagelin: ‘The first question, Maharishi, comes from the Discovery Channel, which recently made a visit to Maharishi Vedic City and Maharishi University of Management. They did so on September 11th, which is the anniversary of the terrorist attack some years ago against the United States. They came to interview scientists and students about Maharishi’s programme to create world peace. This included a demonstration of Maharishi’s Yogic Flying technique. The programme they are preparing will be broadcast to 154 countries and viewed by an estimated 220 million people.

‘The reporter from the Discovery Channel has two questions for Maharishi for the television show he is preparing. First, why do so many people in the world choose war over peace?’ 

Maharishi: ‘Lack of proper development of their brain functioning. That means lack of education, which Dr Hagelin has very clearly indicated in his introductory remarks today. Whatever the level of education, that is the level of administration.

‘Present education is very isolated. It does not make the whole brain function properly. The human brain has the capability of engaging total Natural Law. The infinite creativity of total Natural Law can be enlivened by every human being. We are sponsoring this education to develop higher states of consciousness, Unity Consciousness, so that every mind in the world can function from the total creative potential of Natural Law. 

‘It is the present system of education that is faulty. The present system of administration is absolutely useless, because education is very incomplete. It does not awaken the functioning of all the fine fabrics of the brain.  

‘Unfortunately, it is the government that regulates education. The whole system of high school, B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. is a human concept of education, which is very limited and full of human shortcomings and failings. . . .
 
‘Bringing the right solution—proper education—will do the job. We have been ringing the bell of proper education, total education through the unfoldment of the transcendental reality, total Natural Law.
 
‘For about ten years, twenty years, I was dealing with the consciousness of the individual, having been completely convinced that it is possible to awaken the sleeping people. Now we have taken to dealing with collective consciousness for the last ten years or so. Now physical science has come to support with the knowledge of the Unified Field.
 
‘I recommend that the press listen to Dr Hagelin’s talk day after day, and night after night. Write it and listen to it until you have created a proper world worth living in. You don’t have to call for new language, new logic, or new knowledge—no. In the exposition of today’s introductory remarks in this world press conference, John Hagelin has said everything that is completely good enough for all times for the world, and for the newspapers, until a proper world consciousness has been created and every government has risen to invincibility. . . .’
 

Question: Prevention of Destruction

Dr Hagelin: ‘In case Maharishi would like to elaborate more, the second part of the Discovery Channel’s question is: How can Transcendental Meditation prevent the next September 11th terrorist attack?’

Maharishi: ‘The truth is that it is one’s own action that comes back to one as a result of one’s past action. As you sow, so shall you reap. . . . There is no hiding from this eternal truth.
 
‘If you have been destroyed, who have you destroyed as a result of which destruction is coming to you? Analyze that. Look into your horoscope. What are the planets that brought you such destruction? There is no use blaming anyone. Find the fault in yourself. What was it that brought this destruction?
 
‘Governments should be able to be preventive. Governments should not permit any wrong by anyone to anyone in their jurisdiction. Then no wrong will ever come to the nation. As you sow, so shall you reap.

‘If you want to be in peace, radiate peace for others—make everyone happy. . . .“As you sow, so shall you reap” is the ultimate analysis whosoever you may be—whether it is me, you, or anyone, at any time.

‘I have a formula for every single individual to engage total Natural Law in their personal, individual life, and in the collective consciousness of the society, the nation, and the world. I need eight thousand people. I will train them, and the whole world will be compulsorily coherent, harmonious, peaceful, affluent, without suffering, and without problems.’

Question: Human Awareness Accessing Total Natural Law

Dr Hagelin: ‘Last week, Maharishi said that Rajas were being trained to “utilize the energy and intelligence of the Unified Field in their every thought, speech, and action.” My question is this: How can a mere impulse of human thought utilize the inconceivable energy and intelligence of the Unified Field that creates billions of suns, moons, and planets in the universe? And how could the physical structure of the tiny human brain sustain such a cosmic experience?’

Maharishi: ‘It is a very genuine question. I will give an analogy first, and then further clarify the question. It’s a very good question.
 
‘Just as a child would ask his father, “Now how is it that the whole tree—thousands of leaves, flowers and fruit—emerges from nothing? Sap is just nothing—emptiness. How can that nothingness become all this huge variety and express itself as this huge variety?
 
‘Innumerable laws of nature, governing all these different aspects of the expression of the tree, are centred in one hollowness of the seed, which is abstract nothingness. There is an area of emptiness—a big zero—within the seed. There is nothing, but from that nothingness sprouts everything—all variety and multiplicity.
 
‘Thus we understand that there is a field which is abstract, unmanifest—the Unified Field. Physics, chemistry, and physiology have located it. Mathematics has located it in a big zero—just like the hollowness of an empty seed.
 
‘Just as from zero—in the zero you put one little line here, and it becomes nine, eight, six or five—so it is from the zero that huge number systems arise. Billions and billions arise; you can count any number.
 
‘It is the same thing in the field of thinking. A tiny thought comes, “Mango”. A thought comes, “I need a mango.” Just this thought makes one stand and walk to the shop. If this shop doesn’t have a good mango, then go to another and another. From where did all this huge activity start? Just the memory of the mango, “I’ll eat a mango.” Just that one little thing spreads into so many varieties.
 
‘This only shows that there is one source from which an infinite number of courses come out—from one source, all courses. This is a reality. Transcendental Consciousness is exploring, or identifying with, that one source which is unmanifest in itself. And from there, all manifestation begins.
 
‘Now here is the answer to the question. From that one source, everything begins. Now elaborate on everything—one solar system, two solar systems, galaxies, millions and billions of suns, and an ever-expanding universe—from this one little source. Through the window of science we see the enormous functioning of the ever-expanding universe.

‘Here is the secret of owning the universe, the secret of rising to invincibility and mastery. Mastery of what? Mastery of total Natural Law and the Constitution of the Universe.  This little brain is the central point from where awareness can be infinitely expanded to control, command, and make use of the infinite creative intelligence of total Natural Law commanding the millions and billions of suns, moons, stars, and everything. Here is the one little control—the switchboard. Another example is that you can look through one little hole in the centre of a lens and see the whole panorama on the other side.
 
‘The technique is practical, natural, and completely available to any human being through proper education—Vedic Education. Take it or lose it. Either remain slaves of situations and circumstances or be the commander of the infinite creative intelligence of total Natural Law. It depends upon education—Vedic Education—which has been forgotten.
 
‘Now, with the grace of Guru Dev, and the grace of our Tradition of Masters, the seed is there. It has to be nourished, recovered, and made use of. This is our strength on the basis of which we can give the gift of invincibility to every government.
 
‘The present governments have to learn something that they do not know. The Prime Minister and President of any country are respected for their social values, but they do not have the knowledge. They can have Total Knowledge now. We have been saying this for many years. . . .
 
‘Eight thousand people from anywhere should be employed, given a comfortable life, and trained. Creating peace and harmony in world consciousness will be their profession. They should be trained, and I will train them all. . . .
 
‘Collect eight thousand people from America, Europe, or here and there—two, three groups. Then you will be the creators of a new world. Tell the governments and the wealthy people. Tell the poor people to come and join the Peace Government, and arrange for their comfortable living.
 
‘It is enough that I have developed this knowledge. But the organization should be by the governments, who profess to manage the society.
 
‘What a beautiful picture we have of the forthcoming world. It is so delightful to us to offer invincibility to every government. We are offering stability to the government so that the government does not change every four years. . . .’

Question: Raising Governments to Invincibility

Dr Hagelin: ‘There is one more question on Maharishi’s invincible system of defence: Maharishi says that “coherence in collective consciousness will prevent the birth of an enemy.” Most people believe that enemies are born out of political, economic, or religious disagreement and dispute. What does Maharishi see as the cause of enmity, and how, in Maharishi’s view, does creating coherence prevent the birth of an enemy?’

Maharishi: ‘Lack of strength and lack of intelligence are the cause. The word “invincibility” means one cannot be challenged or defeated by anyone. That means there is no weakness in knowledge and no weakness in action. As long as weakness remains, there is no base of invincibility. Invincibility cannot be damaged by anyone. That means it has supreme power, supreme knowledge, supreme capability supreme status, and supreme intelligence. It is beyond the reach of weakness.
 
‘As long as there is weakness, invincibility is not there. . . . Raising every government to that power which will not be challenged by anyone means that the government will not lack anything. As long as there is a lack of anything, governments will always be challenged by situations and circumstances. Invincibility is the natural, spontaneous ability to use the total creative intelligence of Natural Law through the technology of the Unified Field which is there in the nature of one’s own Self. The Unified Field, being self-referral, cannot be haunted by anything outside itself.
 
‘This is the status which we want every government to have. However, the unit of government, which is a single individual, should have invincibility in his own awareness. Having gained efficiency in training the individual to be invincible, to be in possession of that total Natural Law, we now take courage. We do not compromise in our offer to the world. We say, “Now you can buy invincibility. Here is a shop and we are old shopkeepers, not new shopkeepers. It is an old shop; what you can buy is invincibility.”
 
‘Train your people. Every government can train its professors, ministers, and chambers of commerce. Then they will not depend on other people; they will depend on themselves. Each nation has enough resources with the custody of total Natural Law, the total Unified Field. When it is there, why not use it? If you do not use it, you are not capable of maintaining yourself, your family, your town, society, country, or your world. Weakness in Nature does not allow existence. . . .
 
‘The world press should feel their responsibility to take this message for their own sake and for the sake of their countries—their patriotism to their nation. Inform the governments, presidents, ministers, wealthy people, chambers of commerce, lawyers, and doctors. . . .

‘We are trying on our own to gather eight thousand people. We are going to gather them wherever it is possible. We have the torch, and we are prepared to show the light.’
