Whatever life has been so far, it has been endeavouring to be better and better. Now should be the time to step onto the plateau of the fulfilment of all the endeavors of the wise throughout the ages.'—Maharishi

26 October 2005 Press Conference Highlights

Opening Remarks

Maharishi: Jai Guru Dev. It is our joy to see something positive happening in the world day by day, day by day. Your efforts with the world press, Dr Hagelin, seem to be bearing fruit. The message of the world press has started to have a hearing by its readers. So the thing is happening. The thing is happening, and soon it will happen all over. This is our great joy.

‘Whatever we could do, we have put to practice. All logic and all scientific experiments say that what we are saying is a practical thing, it is an easy thing, and it will take everyone and every nation out of problems and out of difficulties. We are saying it, and the world press has started to write it and present it to its readers.

‘I have only to see what country, what people, and what organizations are fortunate enough to not lose the days. And wherever in the world they are not grabbing the opportunity to make their collective consciousness—their national consciousness or their provincial collective consciousness—integrated, positive, and harmonious, then Natural Law is creating tornadoes, creating all these hurricanes. . . .

‘We will not say anything other than: All the governments should be put to shame. We are speaking aloud, and the people in the government are hearing day by day. But their fortune has not yet prompted them to come out of problems—the basis of all problems. We will see how many come day by day and how many abstain—how many find reasons not to get into this. We have to see.

‘Every government, without exception, can be charged with knowing there is nectar, yet they are giving the cup of poison to their followers. And what do I see as a fate of these governments? The next election is going to put out all these great, great leaders of today—great presidents, great prime ministers, great this and great that. They will be all hooted out. People are going to tell them, “You had a chance for an ideal government by creating every single individual to be very healthy, very integrated, strong, and harmonious through education and through health. And you have not done it. With what face are you coming again to ask us for a new vote?”

‘It is not a matter of choice anymore. The choice to escape from creating an integrated national consciousness is a choice to take the country to hell. Now, the next election or the next election—one or maximum two elections—will put out all these [laughter] well-wishers of their nations. The wrong people are getting a hold of authority, and for what day are they existing in the world?

‘There is a phrase in English. I will just say half of it, “Theirs is not to question why [laughter]. Theirs is not to question why.” The reality is so strong, so practical—the creativity is so strong and obvious and universal—that you cannot question it anymore. You will have to do it.

‘It is a good message. Dr Hagelin, you can answer their questions. If they understand common sense, tell them on the level of common sense. How many people know science in the world? But you can even beat the drum of modern science [laughter].

‘Ask the world press the question: Why they have not yet succeeded in inspiring the high-level authority in the governments to adopt this simple measure of creating coherence in world consciousness and creating prevention-oriented governments? Why not? Ask the world press: What is that which they feel? Why is there no response? And if we do not ask them questions, we ask them to question us [laughter]. We are tempered for it.

‘Let us see if there is any question left after all these years. We like to hear the questions repeated, and we will [laughter] repeat the answer. Everyone who has been hearing us knows our answer. All the time, the answer is the same. The question may be anything, but the solution is the same.

‘So you can repeat to them, and see what new things they have. We have the same old thing as an answer. But it is good to enjoy the new questions [laughter]—new questions to hear the same old answers [laughter]. Let’s enjoy the games.’

Dr Hagelin: ‘I would like to pose a question to the press from Maharishi—from the Global Country of World Peace. Maharishi just asked the question: Why hasn’t the press yet succeeded in bringing these commonsense and compelling Vedic solutions to the attention of the leadership of their countries? The press certainly is making some effort, and the increasing in-depth coverage is certainly appreciated, but there certainly should be more. There is no more important story than this!’

Question: The Purpose of the Parliaments of World Peace

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, the first question from the global press concerns the news of the establishment of the Global Parliament. Last week, the first Global Parliament of World Peace was held on an island off the coast of Nova Scotia. The purpose of the Parliament, according to a press release is “to quietly create permanent peace on earth, without any fuss about it”. What will take place during these Parliaments, Maharishi, that will promote world peace? And how will world peace come without a fuss?’

Maharishi: In these Parliaments of World Peace, the people from different countries will come and experience what peace is in a community. A hundred, two hundred people is a small group, but they will have group meditations and exploration of higher states of consciousness. In a group of a hundred, two hundred minds retiring from the field of activity and descending into finer fields of activity, transcending, and experiencing Transcendental Consciousness—the field of pure harmony, pure integration, pure invincible quality of total Natural Law—they will be coming out fresh and vital and more sensible in all thought, speech, and behaviour.

‘These World Parliaments will not be for discussion. The discussion of problems—hear carefully what I am saying—the discussion of problems is a waste of time. The discussion of problems is a waste of time.

‘I will give you an example of that. All that the health people in the world—this is another alarming picture I am giving—all the health care systems in the world are studying disorder on the level of the health of the brain, heart, this part of the body, that part of the body, that part of the body. The logic is: If you do not study the disorder, how are you going to create order? Very soon that is going to be admitted as a wrong principle which is a waste of time.

‘Take the example of a tree. You have thousands of leaves, and so many flowers, and so many branches, and so many different values—so many fruits and so many seeds within the fruits. If there is any kind of epidemic or any kind of disease on the leaf or on the flower or on this or on that, the study of the disorder is a waste of time.

‘What is useful time for the health care of all the values of the tree? Water the root. Water the root. Attend to the sap of the tree, which is the basis of all the numberless trees—all the flowers, all the fruits, all the branches. They will all be healthy and happy by your attending to the root.

‘What is the root of life? Consciousness is the root of life. His Majesty Raja Raam’s research on physiology has proved this. And this proof has been ringing in the world air for the last how many years—ten? He was weighed in gold for this research. What he has shown is that all the struggle and strife of studying the physiology in order to maintain health has proved to be a waste of time—a simple waste of time. What is a good use of time for health care? Attend to consciousness.

‘Consciousness has expressed itself as the different values of physiology. If you can attend to consciousness, your attention on consciousness wakes up consciousness to its own creative potential. It wakes up within itself through Transcendental Meditation and the Yogic Flying procedures—all those of which we have been talking. Attending to consciousness is the only way of doing less and accomplishing more.

‘We are soon putting forward Vedic Medical Colleges, Vedic Universities, Vedic High Schools, and Vedic Middle Schools for the study of consciousness, which is the basic knowledge from where all levels of order will be spontaneously maintained. That is the civilization we are going to create. We are proud that it is happening.

‘We are not going to leave our children in disgrace for very long. The complete knowledge is very fresh in our awareness. And we are going to create a new world.

‘There are those that call themselves religions and are teaching suffering. On the path to God, suffering cannot increase. So if suffering is the way, you are being wrongly guided by your religious heads. Whatever they are, and whatever your faith in them, get away from them. The sooner you get away from that kind of religion which teaches suffering, the sooner you will be better off.

‘Soon get out of that education which gives you only the knowledge of the physical values—it is wasting the time of your learning. It is wasting generations in useless knowledge. Get the knowledge of self-referral intelligence—the Unified Field, the field of total Natural Law—within your own awareness. And you will have legalized [laughter] every wave of your mind, every wave of your intellect, every wave of your behaviour.

‘Rise to reality. Do not say, “This is my culture; this is my culture.” If your culture is prohibiting you to rise to enlightenment quickly, you have to be careful whether you want to follow that culture which is going to lead you to hell in the name of heaven. . . .

‘I was happy to find out that some German youth are rising to perform Vedic Yagyas in Germany in order to turn around the fury of Natural Law, so that they are supported by the Natural Law of Germany. . . . Now it is fortunate that the Germans have awakened to perform Yagya—to take recourse to Natural Law—to raise the power of Natural Law in Germany, to bring back the strength of German breath, and to raise German consciousness to be invincible German consciousness.

‘This I am saying because I am out to improve the politics of the world. The politics is in the worst stage. All these poor countries are being goaded by these rich countries to remain poor. . . . I never want to criticize anything, because you get whatever you deserve. I just see the happenings in the world, and I pity these people.

‘Wake up Germans, and wake up other people who are proud of their democracy. Wake up. If you do not wake up, you will be made to wake up. You will have no place in the next elections.

‘My plan, my program is to quietly light the lamp. I do not have to fight the darkness to put the darkness out of the room from this door or that door. I quietly light the room. That is my job—not to fight this darkness, but to light the room.

‘I am not in a habit of criticizing anyone. I am admiring the fortune of those who hear and understand and follow and enjoy. And I pity the fate of those people who hear, do not understand, do not want to do it. . . .

‘What more we can do to help the world?’

Question: The Creation of a Beautiful Mosaic of Differences

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, another question from the press is on Maharishi’s comment that he will make the world into “a beautiful mosaic of differences”. What will Maharishi do to ensure that differences, which throughout history have separated man from man, religion from religion, culture from culture, and nation from nation, will now be woven into a beautiful mosaic of differences? What will be the glue that holds the mosaic of differences together?’

Maharishi: The realization of unity at every level of diversity will do the trick. Enlivenment of unity on every level of diversity means on every level of evolution of space and time. Wherever there is space and time, there are different units of the overall unity of the ultimate reality, so that only enlightenment is the rescue. The lack of enlightenment is like wandering in the wilderness where there is no road even to go to, to lead one. Enlightenment is a level of reality in Transcendental Consciousness.

‘Regarding Transcendental Consciousness, I remember in the beginning days of the Movement, fifty years ago in the USA and Germany, these countries where science was fondly developing those days said, “We are practical people. How we can keep our eyes closed for twenty long minutes?” I said [laughter], “It is the same process, in which you see from the eyes for two minutes, and then you have a blink. The eyes blink means that they take rest. From this you know that if you give proper rest to the eyes, they will see better.”

‘So if you give complete rest to the eye, you will see better. And “see better” means you will see the reality more thoroughly. And “you will see the reality more thoroughly” means that the reality is unity and diversity together. In one togetherness is the totality of Natural Law. When you see that, then your seeing ability, your mind, your intellect, and your ego, are associated with that total field of knowledge. Then that total field of knowledge will be flowing through every action to achieve the goal of action.

‘There is a very beautiful expression in the Vedic Literature about it. It says, “Swe Swe Karmani Abhiratah Sansiddhim Labhate Narah.” “Swe Swe Karmani”: Established in one’s own action. Established in the action which is your own action means self-referral action. “Swe Swe Karmani Abhiratah”: Established in your own karma, you perform. The result will be Sansiddhim which means the total realization of your purpose of action. Whatever you want, you will get it. How will you get it? “Swe Swe Karmani Abhiratah”: Established in your own dharma—one’s own allotted duty.

‘A man is born somewhere at some time and all that. The whole field of Jyotish is there to delineate what are going to be his trends of thought and action and behaviour in life, and at what age and all that—the whole field of prediction. So this whole knowledge is there on the basis of the point of time of birth. One point has the whole story of life. The Jyotishis predict everything, “At this stage, he will do this; at this stage, at this year, he will fall sick; at this stage, he will be a billionaire.” Every aspect of health, wealth, and wisdom are predictable from that one point. The Jyotishis calculate that point. What was that point with reference to the sun, with reference to the moon, with reference to different stars? And what was that point with reference to the beginning of this year, or the beginning of the century? What was that point, in space and time? That gives the whole story.

‘This is science of life—the Vedic Science of life. “Vedic Science” means science of knowledge. This is the knowledge: You get a point, and then you get the whole knowledge of the ocean. Bindu and Sindhu—these are the two words in Sanskrit. “Bindu” means point. “Sindhu” means ocean. If you have a point, then you have the whole thing about the ocean, because the ocean is made of points. All that a point is, is spread in the structure of an ocean.

‘To get the Total Knowledge is easy, because you have to know only a point. And a point is “Ma”, and the whole is “A”. The whole is “A”, and the point is “Ma”. So “Am” is the total field of knowledge. “A” is the total field of knowledge. The relation of “A” to “Ma”—this collapse of “A” into “Ma”—is the field of Total Knowledge. “Ma” is Total Knowledge. This is how the Constitution of the Universe is contained within a point of life. That is why it is not difficult to have the mind open to the point, the intellect open to the point, the ego open to the point, and behave in the mastery of infinity. Handling the point is handling infinity.

‘This is the field of knowledge. It must be brought to every growing young man from his own religion or from his own culture or from his own politics or from his own economics. Whatever the field of knowledge, this Totality should be unfolded. This is the kind of knowledge we are going to set forth through our universities and all that. . . .

‘Dr Hagelin’s voice is trickling down every week into fields everywhere. And every political leader asking for votes will be asked, “What you have done for us, except create conflict?”. . . This very unfortunate, very bad system of “divide and rule” has become so prevalent. But all that is going to be out, as the darkness is out with the onset of light.

‘Now we are awake. We do not depend on anyone. We are creating light and light and light and light and light and light. And it is very good that the voice of performing Yagya is rising in the national consciousness of some parts of the population in some countries—one country, two countries. That is enough. This is the sign of the dawn. And with the dawn, the day breaks, and the night comes to an end.

‘With this offer to the world, the world is going to say, in Sanskrit terms, “Dr Hagelin, Vijayante Taram—Victory to Dr Hagelin. Victory to the voice of science today.” Enlightenment is coming to the world, to everyone. All those unfortunate things will be very soon forgotten in our time, and the world will be a beautiful mosaic of differences—a beautiful mosaic of differences.’
