5 October 2005 Press Conference Highlights
Opening Remarks
Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. With these beautiful words of introduction from Dr Hagelin, it will be a joy to answer any questions from the world press to see from every angle the possibility of this extremely powerful utopia, we can call it. In the past it was called “utopia”, but today it is a practicality of living in this world. “Utopia” was a word in the past, when it was a laudable goal. Now that goal is at hand through our programme.
‘We are teaching unity as a living reality in all the diverse ways of behaviour and action in the world. Whatever is the intensity of darkness, we can forget about it with a ray of the onset of light. We have that knowledge. We have that knowledge with which we take pride in reconstructing the world—rejuvenating every aspect of life—to a supreme level of dignity, affluence, fulfilment, integration, and finally, invincibility in all aspects of life.
‘Our offer is invincibility. That may appear to be too far away, but it is at hand. And the taste is in eating the pudding. You take the programme and begin to enjoy life. If you do not take the programme, you do not have the benefit of any aspect of it. It is very simple. Either take the drug and be cured or look for drug here and there and see that the suffering is chronic.
‘Our programme of bringing enlightenment to every individual and invincibility to every nation collectively is a programme of simplicity—utter simplicity, absolute naturalness. There are no complications in it. It is all clear and simple and total and perfect. Take the programme and enjoy totality of life. Totality of life, by the grace of the Creator of life, is infinity—nothing finite—everything enormously fulfilling at all times. Such being the characteristic of life itself, the credit for living perfection in daily life goes to life itself.
‘We can take questions from the press and answer them delightfully.
There should not be any question. There cannot be any question which cannot be answered by our wise and simple Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, Dr Bevan Morris. Dr Bevan Morris has me answer the questions just as a formality. But there cannot be any question which cannot be answered by the Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace. There cannot be any task which cannot be achieved by the Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, who has at hand, on his fingertips, the command over the total creativity of infinite dimension of Natural Law.
‘Total law is functional today, and we have so many, many radiators of this perfect knowledge. They are going to open centres of knowledge all over the world. These have been defined by the Prime Minister in terms of 7000 places on earth where total Natural Law, in its specific values, is available. In all those 7000 places, the plan is to put the flag of perfection of life—to put the flag which will wave the eternal grace of almighty, omnipresent, omniscient God. It is a beautiful time for anyone breathing life in the world today.
‘Any questions? If there are no questions, you will hear more waves of fulfilment from Dr Morris, the expression of total Natural Law, the living embodiment of the Light of God.’
Question: The Significance of Victory Day
Dr Morris: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. The first question that everyone is interested in is: What is Victory Day? How is it celebrated? What will be the significance of the Victory Day celebration a week from today for the unfoldment of all that you have been describing for the human race?’
Maharishi: ‘The Vedic calendar is the yearly calendar of the Vedic civilization. “Vedic civilization” means a civilization based on Veda—Vedic. Veda is the field of Total Knowledge, the field of the lively Constitution of the Universe.
‘In the Indian calendar, every day is attributed to a quality of perfection. There are innumerable values of perfection and innumerable values of all possibilities open to life. Victory Day is the day of victory, open to everyone in order to have a grip, a victory, over all possibilities which are the basic qualities of total Natural Law that govern the infinite diversity of the galactic universe. Now the victory of that power—the supreme level of victory—places life on the plateau of all possibilities. This one day in the Vedic calendar is dedicated to that possibility for human life.
‘Victory Day is the day of victory, the day of enlightenment. Now when we can talk in terms of governmental achievement, it is the day for any government to achieve invincibility and victory over all values of life, so that infinite diversity is not able to overshadow the brilliance of unity.
‘ “Unity” means all possibilities. Unity is Vedic, it is Vedantic, it is Yogic, it is Karmic. Unity is a characteristic quality of action—that is the dynamism—of silence, of infinity, of point, all possibilities. The Day of Victory is not only a psychological reminder of all possibilities nor only an emotional reminder of all possibilities opening to life, but it practically stimulates the liveliness of this level of life on the individual level, on the collective level, and on the universal level.
‘The Day of Victory is the day of victory of the Constitution of the Universe, the day of victory over all the isolated shortcomings of life, and openness to unboundedness of life—victory, invincibility to life everywhere.
‘We are celebrating this day specially this year. I am emphasizing the word “specially”. We are celebrating the Victory Day specially this year, even though we have been celebrating Victory Day year after year, year after year. For thousands of years, all those who have known about the Vedic calendar have been celebrating this day as the Victory Day, depending on the level of the intelligence. The children in India have Victory Day; the youth in India have Victory Day; the elderly people have Victory Day and the retired people, Sannyasis, recluse, and Purusha. All enjoy that step onto the platform of perfection, where total Natural Law will be at our command, at our thought.
‘A very beautiful, relaxed state of life is open to everyone. We are celebrating it specially this year because we have found that technique which will make every government rise to the level of victory without war—victory before war.
‘The amassing of great, destructive power in the defence area of every government is because the enemy will be afraid of the great power and will not attack. The aim was prevention. Government has a parental role to play for the whole population. The “parental role” means the father protects the son. Much before the winter comes, the family is supplied with warm clothes and with heaters and all that. It is the parental role which provides things in advance.
‘Now we have found that government can provide and can fulfil its parental role for its people. It does not matter by what name the government goes, whether it is a monarchy or dictatorship or even a democracy. Whatever the system of government, we have a programme for the government to govern the people with a lively parental role. The parental role means one supplies the children before the need arises—in advance.
‘We are establishing that administration in the world on this Victory Day on the twelfth of this month, Victory Day, Vijaya Dashami Day. It has a huge philosophical structure to it and a huge practical application to achieve the impossible. We are going to achieve the impossible for every government in the world.
‘These words can be repeated a thousand times and in every age: We are going to establish every government on a successful level of their parental role for all the millions of people that they are administering, because the administration of the huge, enormous galactic universe can now be inherited in a very simple way by a few people in any government, in any nation—a thousand people, two thousand people, five thousand people, or five hundred people for a small country. We can enliven their awareness with the enormous awakening of the total creative intelligence of Natural Law. The result will be that the collective consciousness of their nation will be surcharged with the liveliness of all possibilities that is the nature of the total law that governs the universe.
‘This Victory Day is going to be a celebration which will enliven the reality of the parental role of any government. The result will be that every government will be far above problems of all kinds—on a level of invincibility.
‘We are for those who can understand. We know it is very difficult for a man in darkness to understand what light may be. You can shout aloud the glory of light, but if you are shouting to a man who is in darkness, he will say, “I appreciate you; I appreciate”, but he knows he does not know what you are saying to him.
‘My situation is that I am telling the story of light to those who are in the darkness. But because it is the nature of light to spread its value to darkness quickly, the light has always been silently radiating its character, and loudly speaking and radiating its character. So talking of the teaching has been a perpetual feature of that invincibility which is the desired goal of all action, the desired goal of all silence, the goal of all that one is.
‘What we are offering is nothing abnormal, nothing peculiar. We are offering something that is natural. We fully understand those who are listening and not following. We are saying something that cannot be understood by anyone who is not on that level of purity which can absorb the Totality.’ . . .
‘All difficulties in every society, now or in the past—for many, many centuries this whole situation is coming on—will continue until we have created groups of Yogic Flyers, groups of people who, through their intention, by the stroke of thought, make their body rise against gravity. Gravity is the power, the controlling power, of Natural Law that administers the universe. These people, who are trained in our technology of creating invincibility, can through thought raise their physical body—just rise against gravity. That means they have control over gravity. They can demonstrate their ability to control gravity through the thought process. This is Vedic Science—the science of Veda, the science of Total Knowledge.
‘We are going ahead with our nature, which is to rise to perfection—that is all—and live life in perfection by going to our type of education at higher levels of education—college level, high school level, and all that. And, God willing, we will create that perfect system of daily living where thought will be in tune with the total power of Natural Law. Total Natural Law, as it governs the universe, will govern the life of everyone here, there, and everywhere in the world, and our world will be a beautiful mosaic of differences.
‘This is the fulfilment of the purpose of the Global Country of World Peace, and the fulfilment of the scientific research of His Majesty Maharaja Raja Raam, who has declared to the world that all physiological expressions are the expressions of the Vedic sound reverberations—Vedic mantras, Vedic words. They are the mantras of consciousness. The whole physiology—the expression of consciousness—can be molded, controlled, and can be made to be effective on any level from its own nature within everyone.
‘It is a very, very, very beautiful field of knowledge, so spontaneously lively within everyone. It is just a matter of opening the awareness to it. The first step is Transcendental Meditation. The second step is to let the transcendental mind float in that area and become acquainted with what it is. It is full with the fluctuations of total Natural Law, which is the script of the Veda, which rules the whole universe from the level of the transcendental, unmanifest field of life.
‘It is so beautiful. We always enjoy talking about it. But we know it may be too foreign to those who have been driven [laughter] by negative values, by the wrong kind of atmosphere. But it does not matter. The dawn is the destiny of the night. Night proceeds; darkness proceeds towards the dawn. We think this is the time. We have celebrated the dawn of this perfect age of bliss and invincibility for every nation during the past two, three months, and we are heading towards it to make it perfect.
‘It is very good. Everyone should congratulate you, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace.’
Question: The Creation of Invincibility for a Nation
Dr Morris: ‘Thank you, Maharishi. Maharishi, you have mentioned invincibility for every nation. In the past, the understanding of invincibility was in terms of military power. Could you please define invincibility? Also, could you explain how a country of three or four million people could be invincible in a world where there are countries that have hundreds of millions of people?’
Maharishi: ‘[laughter] We only need one lamp in big room—a very big hall and one lamp. What will the size of the lamp be? A few inches long and wide. That will be the lamp, but it radiates huge, long distances.
‘A few people or one man of knowledge—one president of a country which may have a hundred million people or two hundred million people or six billion people, the whole world—can create education to unfold the enormous power of Natural Law within the individual within a short time. He will be a surprise to everyone, “How can one man enlighten all the people, six billion people—one man?” It is in the same way that one little lamp will bring light to a whole area. The example is there, and this is how it happens.
‘From age to age, there has been one man to ring the bell of Eureka for the light of God. And the light of God radiated in all the drops of God’s grace in individual existences everywhere, everywhere, everywhere. So the enormous field of darkness is easily controlled by a flash of light. A flash of light for the enormous field of darkness is completely enough. So do not be surprised. There has always been one sun to eliminate the darkness of the whole galaxy.’
Question: The Importance of Different Languages
Dr Morris: ‘Thank you, Maharishi. Maharishi, why are there so many languages in the world? You mentioned 7000 different languages, and each one has its own culture. Why is there such a diversity? And how important are these languages for the creation of the beautiful time that you have said is now dawning for the world?’
Maharishi: ‘This is because in a family, whatever is the property, it is shared by so many people in the family. They inherit that [laughter]. Just like that is total Natural Law, which for its total reality exists in the field of the transcendent where there are no boundaries of space and time. Total Natural Law belongs to that wholeness; it belongs to that wholeness.
‘We can take another example: In an agriculture field, a one kilometre square belongs to wheat, another to rice, another to bananas; the patches belong to the same field. So the same fertility of one field appears in terms of different crops. “Different crops” mean different agencies of Natural Law expressing themselves on the one ground. Like that, total Natural Law expresses itself in different, different qualities.
‘Language is the result of reverberating physiology: the mouth, the throat, the lips, the tongue, the lungs—the whole physiology is involved in expressing a word. Wherever there is a word, that is the expression of total Natural Law with reference to that particular individual body. Like a particular field—a ten kilometre square here, a twenty kilometre square there, a hundred kilometre square there—a particular area speaking the language indicates the administrator of that particular area in terms of that Natural Law.
‘From the languages, from the mother tongue, from the dialects continuing for thousands of years in one area, that area is constantly being administered by that specific phase of the total Natural Law. A particular aspect of total Natural Law is lively somewhere. These particular aspects or, we can say, specific units of it are like the different size fingers of the palm. They are all fingers of different sizes, but they all have their common source in the palm. Like that, the cultural values of each area depend upon the specific culture, the specific laws of nature, that are lively in that area. That is detected by us on the basis of the continuity of that particular dialect.
‘This is how we have come to know some specific laws of nature. Some specific laws of nature, which are a counterpart of total Natural Law, have been governing those areas. Now this gives us a short cut for our own direct analysis of total Natural Law. We go to that area and create a group in that particular dialect—create a group here, create a group there. Now we have 7000 areas—small, small areas. Somewhere maybe a group of a hundred flying together will be enough; somewhere a group of ten flying together will be enough; somewhere a group of twenty flying together will be enough. Because we will be controlling that area’s force of gravity, which is the controller and administrator of life in that particular area, we find that our task has been much reduced.
‘We are going to put up the flags on this Victory Day, hopefully in all these 7000 areas. Otherwise, we will continue to put up the flags starting from this Victory Day, as has been announced by the Prime Minister. We will have the flag of the country. Our national leaders of the Movement, in more than a hundred countries in the world, have been informed to put up the flag of the Global Country of World Peace with the original flag of the area, which stands for the particular set of the laws of nature that are the rulers of this area, of that area.
‘This particular Vijaya Dashami Day, the Day of Victory, is really going to be a hallmark of a new call for the human race: the call for unity of all nations, the call for a Parliament of World Peace, the call for invincibility of every nation. Invincibility of every nation means invincibility of every nation. These words are clear, simple. Every country will be completely fearless from anywhere, in any corner. These flags of invincibility that we will put up will be not symbolic, but they will be practical instruments to wave the air of that area in terms of the laws of nature of that particular area. What we are doing is not a show. It is the practical aspect expressing itself in the show of relativity.
‘It is very good. It is such a joy. We have the wisdom from Guru Dev, from the tradition of Vedic Masters. We feel we are doing justice to the Vedic wisdom by creating this uniformly blissful state of all mankind on our global earth and radiating coherence and invincibility to all the planets and all the galaxies so that no one will ever conflict with anyone else. The world will come up to be beautiful mosaic of differences.
‘It is such a joy. We know we are talking to all those people for whom we are well-wishers. We tell them, “When you are awake from sleeping, you will be blessed by that inner value of your own consciousness, which is the government of the universe within yourself. Then you will remember what we have been saying.”
‘Dr Morris, bless the world press and invite them to continue to enjoy all that is happening in the world—positivity increasing everywhere. Soon the world will be free from all these fears and all these negative values. All glory to Guru Dev. Very beautiful.’
