Opening Remarks

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. Now there is very good news for the world press to take to the governments. Every press agency is rightfully dedicated to its nation and its government. Now is the time for them to proclaim the possibilities to their people and their governments. I will use their familiar phrase, “The ball is in their court.”  

‘Every government has police, defence mechanisms, military, planes, and the means of destruction, but every government knows they cannot give security to their people. This is the biggest concern of every head of state today. 

‘Every head of state has a parental role towards his people. So many heads of state have met me, and in their parental role are genuinely thinking, “What more can I do for my people?” They are always thinking, “What more can I do for my people? I have police, but fighting on the street and all these difficulties continue. I have military, great generals, and colonels, and I have trained them.” But the fact is the military and all the weapons that any country has are not enough to protect the nation from the anger of any other nation. The heads of state are aware of this.  

‘At this time, we are offering invincibility, which needs only a few thousand people in every country who could be trained very easily. Then the whole national consciousness will be so coherent, harmonious, and positive that an enemy will not be born.  

‘Enemies will not be born if the nation is healthy within itself. With all the hospitals and doctors, diseases are not under control. Doctors try their best, but at times they have to say, “Your disease has become chronic. That means, my dear patient, you have to live with it.” This means the health care system is not enough to maintain the health of the people.  

‘In the same way, there are not enough police to maintain quarrel-free, problem-free streets or villages. In the same way, the defence mechanisms are not enough, even though every government has a defence minister, a defence strategy, and rules of defence. If they can afford it, they have aeroplanes and missiles, but they are not sure they can save the country from the enemy.  

‘This is so obvious today in the case of America. The USA has all the wealth of the world, military power, and missiles, but every day, the voice comes, “It is difficult to offer security to the nation.” If such a country, with all its missile power, is not capable of protecting the lives of its people, then what to say of lives in any other country? 

‘These are the incapacities of government. Now the question is whether these incapacities can be eliminated or not. With the present setup of administration no government can assure good health, freedom from chronic diseases, lack of disturbances, or freedom from fear of invasion for its people. No government can do this.  

‘At the same time, we see through the window of science that the entire physical universe—millions and billions of galaxies, suns and diverse values—is being governed with perfect order. Natural Law does not allow one galaxy to pounce on another galaxy, and does not allow one sun to pounce on another sun. All the diversity is there, but it is very well administered. 

‘Who is administering it? Dr Hagelin says that in modern science there is a unified field of intelligence and energy which is the basis of all diversity and very successfully administers the diverse universe. Vedic Knowledge says: that which governs the universe is also the same thing that governs every point of the universe. The whole physiology of the universe is governed by the same thing that governs the total, infinite diversity of the universe.  

‘Then the question is whether we, in our world, can have the knowledge of the administrative authority of the universe. If we can have it to support our government, then our government will have no problems, sickness, or fear of invasion.  

‘Our effort is to have the knowledge of that agency and intelligence, which is the agency and intelligence of total Natural Law, the Unified Field in modern scientific language, and the field of consciousness in Vedic Science. This is the Self of everyone, self-referral consciousness, the Unified Field.  

‘The knowledge is here now. We only have to share it with more people. We have very intelligent targets. Each nation should have a few thousand people using this technology so that the individual consciousness is on par—in perfect coherence—with the collective consciousness of the universe. This is what we are offering to the world.
 
‘Inadequacies are there, but now the knowledge of administration has risen to be perfect. That is our level. The knowledge has been developed so perfectly that it is possible to have coordination, or friendship, with cosmic administration in order that our national administration is on a level where nothing can disturb its authority or invincibility.  

‘Invincibility is at hand. We are offering it to the governments, and only a few thousand students of about 16 to 20 years of age are needed. Without any effort, all the schools are giving some knowledge. We are asking every government to give the knowledge of total Natural Law, which is the knowledge of the Constitution of the Universe, the knowledge of the consciousness of the student himself. Just a period or two daily will maintain a high level of integrity in the national consciousness in every country. 

‘We are offering this to every government. It will not be long until the parental role of every government will be very happy to adopt our offer to the world.

‘If there are any questions from the intelligentsia of the world, we will be very happy to answer them. We believe the press to be the thinkers and intelligentsia of the world. They are the guiding light of the trends of thought in the world. We want to think with them if there are any questions. If there are no questions, then we will ask them to act quickly .

‘There is no greater, more pious action than saving the people from suffering, pain, fear, and poverty by giving them the rightful status of their own integrity and invincibility within themselves. 

‘Dr Hagelin has so beautifully defined, in terms of modern science, the requirement of every nation from the level of administration. His Peace Government is such a beautiful solution for every government. It will fulfil the parental role of every government, whether from the angle of education in schools and colleges, or from the angle of health in medical colleges.

‘Considered from the point of view of health, the level of invincibility is the level of immortality and perfect health. It is the level of perfect knowledge, stability, and perfect self-sufficiency. From whatever angle we talk about it, it is a desirable thing to have. In this scientific age, we can have it from the platform of science.  

‘At the same time, it does not matter if one does not have much knowledge of science. One can have the knowledge from the angle of the holy texts of one’s own religion, and the same thing will be shown. Every religion is a way to the light of God. The religion may say, “Yes, the light of God is within you.” Within you or outside of you, it does not matter, but religion is the way to it. So why not have it?  

‘Our approach is as much scientific as it is religious. If those, who do not believe in religion and science, believe in themselves, then our approach is in their own consciousness. For those who do not worry about themselves and are worried about others, there is invincibility for the nation.  

‘From any angle, the approach and target of our programme is invincibility for everyone—singly, society-wise, nationally, or internationally. It is a very beautiful thing we are offering. Let’s have it, before it is too late. . . . 

‘Why can’t you quietly neutralize the rise of negativity in your country’s consciousness, in city consciousness, and in world consciousness? When one feels the darkness, then one has the need for light. If there is a possibility of lighting the lamp in the night, then do it quickly, and do not continue to remain in darkness.  

‘Our whole approach is about the element which is present within one’s own consciousness, one’s own Self, self-referral consciousness. It is the nature of bliss. The mind goes to it in a very fond and desirable way, just as water flows down the slope automatically. This is how the mind, always in search of more and more, trickles down to the field of infinity, Transcendental Consciousness, in a very natural, simple, and effortless way.  

‘Something that is so much needed can be gained effortlessly. It is just a matter of knowing the technique and that is all. So let us decide to do it. The world press is fond of its success in carrying the message to every home. Every national life will rise to the level of invincibility very naturally, quietly, and without a big fuss. It is like the name of Dr Hagelin’s government, the Peace Government. We should do it very quickly because the atmosphere is not very healthy for life, and this will make it very healthy.’

Question: Knowledge for Successful Administration

Dr Hagelin: ‘The first question is about what every administrator needs to know. Maharishi has said that administration is “a supreme science that should not just be given out to any uneducated man on the street.” What is this supreme science? What does the president or prime minister of a country need to know to make him a successful leader?’ 

Maharishi: ‘He should know that everything can be achieved from the consciousness within everyone.  

‘Education has to be predominantly based on consciousness, with the experience of consciousness in the classroom and the knowledge of consciousness in terms of the Unified Field in every aspect of the physical sciences. Also the knowledge about consciousness as the light of God, found in the holy texts of every religion, should be in the classroom. Some knowledge of religions, sciences, and consciousness with the experience of consciousness will make a very beautiful world. In the classroom it will be very beautiful to project the knowledge in terms of science, and then it is very clear that the same thing has been projected throughout time in the holy texts of every religion and in the Vedic Literature in terms of consciousness, the Self, and life itself. 

‘The whole evidence has been there throughout time. It is a matter of adaptation now for every religious man. It does not matter which religion; one does not have to transfer to any other religion. Whatever the religion and the religious books, the light of God is good enough.  

‘This is the constitution of the administration of the universe with all the galaxies, etc. When the universe is be so beautifully administered, then one knows one small planet can be nicely administered. Then why cannot one small city, home, or individual be administered nicely and be free from any problem, pain, ill health, or suffering?  

‘Total Knowledge, which we are sponsoring through our university, is very logical. Previews will soon be available to schools, colleges, and universities everywhere. It is necessary to begin this programme. 

‘It is very easy for the world press. They only have to give the same message over and over again because people have been used to different values which were all in terms of suffering, difficulties, and problems. The press has to be consistent with them, and they will get transformed. 

‘Not all the people have to do it. A very insignificant part of the population will do the whole thing, just like a lamp in a hall. One lamp in a hall is good enough. Every inch of the hall does not have to have a lamp. When there is one lamp in the hall the darkness is gone. . . . When the people begin to practise in themselves, they will create the light with their coherence. 

‘Explain to the press that not all the people have to do it. It is a very great advantage. Those who do not want to do it should not do it. But sooner or later, even in a few days, those who want to kill will lose their tendency to kill. Some morning, they will say, “No, let us not kill, because killing has been throughout the ages, and it has not created a healthy society. So what can we do?” This question is destined to arise. 

‘We do not want to waste our time on those who are stubbornly suffering. If some want to remain in darkness, why should we waste our life on them?

‘It is just such a relief to us that ninety percent of the people do not have to do it. Let ninety percent of the people oppose it. Ten percent of the people can make a mistake in their life [laughter] and begin to meditate. They will change the ninety percent immediately without much effort or thought. 

‘We do not want to oppose anyone. We can appeal to those people who have the power to understand. They are good enough. With 8,000 people practising Yogic Flying in the midst of millions of people in the USA, or in any country, we are satisfied.  

‘We do not want to lose our peace for the sake of trying to make peace with others. We are selling oranges. If someone wants to sell bananas, why should we fight with him? If someone wants to sell some other thing, some other fruit, let him sell the other fruit. We are selling oranges, that is all. Those who want oranges, they will come and take them straight from us. Those who want peace, bliss, and harmony will come, take it, and radiate that desirable effect so the people who are making mistakes now will stop making mistakes and get on the right track.  

‘This leaves us in such great peace. We do not worry about those who want to kill others. This is such a relief to us. We want to wear a green coat. If someone wants to wear a red coat or a black coat, why should we squabble with him? That is his choice.  

‘This is such a relief to us. We sit like an elephant. All these fifty years, we have been running about like rabbits. Now we sit like an elephant. Come who comes, we address them, that is all. Now our approach is invincibility to the nation. That will be very good.  

‘Dr Hagelin, your message has been so penetrating because it is so simple, scientific, and appealing to the intelligent people. We know there are not so many intelligent people in the world, but there are enough in number to overshadow the intelligence of the unintelligent. It is a matter of taste. Let others have a different taste.’

Question: How to Transform Governments

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi speaks of the parental role of governments and says that leaders should govern their people through love and not punishment. This is very inspiring, but unfortunately, it is the opposite of what many governments do today. Today governments are more fear based and dictatorial than loving and nurturing. How will Maharishi transform today’s abusive governments into loving parents?’

Maharishi ‘We are taking an approach which will answer this question in a practical manner. With a few groups of 8,000 Yogic Flyers anywhere in the world we will have a very positive world consciousness. The thinking of the responsible people will then be more positive, coherent, and invincible. Convincing people is a very difficult thing. The man who has no background is like a platform made of stone. However much water you put on it, it will not soak in.

‘My own experience is that going around the world and talking for fifty years has informed some people. They have started to meditate, and the atmosphere has become better. But I have stopped trying to convince people for the last four, five, ten years. Convincing individuals has been such a waste of time. . . .

‘If a man has green glasses, it is not possible for us to make him see red. However you say, “Red”, he will say, “Yes, yes, this is what I call green.” So convincing is a waste of time. This is why we have now adopted the policy of these groups. With two or three groups of 8,000 the world will be a better world.  

‘There are people who have their own logic to say that this is not possible, and that is not possible. They are all impossible people. Let them live in their impossibility. But there are some who accede to logic. We can call them ignorant or wise—we may call them anything—but it is not the logic that is convincing. It is the atmosphere that convinces the people. Now we have the experience that some groups of Yogic Flyers here or there will be enough. This is our strength. We do not have to convince everyone, nor would we like to waste our time convincing others.  

‘Very soon we will establish the Peace Governments everywhere. It is automatic. Administration and government are very specialized fields. . . .

‘We have all right to raise our voice of invincibility. One light will take away the darkness from quite a large area.  

‘Invite the people of the world. Retired people are most concerned about what is happening in the world. They could come out and move around in areas where people are negatively motivated, and speak to the people, who will then begin to be wiser.

‘A period on consciousness, even in existing schools and colleges, will put the whole collective consciousness of the nation on a very fertile ground of positivity and harmony. That will be very good. 

‘Dr Hagelin, ask the press to take your voice of peace, the voice of the Peace Government, and your message of the Unified Field, and to say, “The science of today is not the science of yesterday. This is not the time for test-tube science anymore. Teach the frontier conclusions of science and the practicality of utilizing the Unified Field in daily life.” The children will pick up once they have this knowledge. One period a day from about ten, twelve years of age to the Master's degree classes is completely good enough.  

‘All the retired people, instead of feeling concern for the younger generation, should meditate themselves, then they will be in peace and radiate peace for their children and grandchildren.  

‘Make an appeal to the existing schools and colleges. I think that is a very good idea. Then, automatically, the nation will be a wiser, happier, healthier nation.’
