Maharishi Press Conference Highlights

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. The message today is the same as every week: Follow the advice of a friendly scientist of the world, Dr John Hagelin, who has discovered the common source of all differences in the Unified Field.

‘The message is the light of God, total Natural Law—the invincible, cosmic Constitution of the Universe within the Self of everyone. For us, man is man, made in the image of God, whether he lives on the top of the Himalayas or at the bottom of the sea. Wherever a man is, he is the light of God. An American, a Japanese, a Chinese, an Indian, a Russian, and a German are different brands of the light of God—different candle lights. The light they emit is the light of God, whether they are a light-emitting candle made in Japan, America, Germany, or anywhere. They are a light-emitting device.

‘Wherever man is, he is the expression of the light of God. Therefore, we have a very heartfelt affection for any man in any part of the world. Different countries, like different brands, do not matter. What matters is he is a candle and can emit light.

‘Life is precious to us. When I see the life of a man of my own village, or my own village a hundred miles away, or my own village a thousand miles away, he is the inhabitant of my home. Everyone’s home is a home. It pinches us to see and hear about the destruction of a man by another man.

‘Therefore, we are now rising with the supreme light of God which will forever be the torch of light for man everywhere. The light of God is within everyone. We are going to give a reminder to everyone that deep within himself is the light of God, total Natural Law.

‘In creation, there are beasts—tigers, leopards, and snakes—who will bite a man. It is their nature to bite a man. We learn that there are animals who destroy life, so we educate the young men of our time, “Do not put your hand in the hole of a snake. Do not go in front of the tiger. He will kill you.”

‘We are coming out with a shield of invincibility for every man and nation to protect themselves. The Peace Government is an administration that protects the people from oncoming dangers. It gives every man a shield of knowledge which will protect him from having to face a disaster.

‘We now have the programme for invincibility for every nation. We are proud to offer this programme and knowledge, whereby the dangers will not swallow a man. The tigers will run away, and snakes will not come near him. He will protect himself just by being himself. This is the programme of the Peace Government.

‘The Peace Government is that government which is administering millions and billions of suns, moons, galaxies, and ever-expanding worlds. That is why we are spending our time, week after week, reminding our people that you do not have to go into the mouth of the dragon. You can create an aura of harmony around you by enlivening your own self-referral consciousness so that the evolutionary power of total Natural Law, which we rejoice in with the words “light of God”, will protect you.

‘It is a very good thing, and we can offer this to every government and every nation wherever they are, whatever their language, culture, or mannerisms. Part of the population of a country—just a few thousand people—are engaged, trained, and educated as teachers, doctors, or engineers by a government. In like manner a few thousand individuals with enlightened states of consciousness will now be created by the Peace Government.

‘We have the Peace Government and have developed the consciousness of the people. . . . So now, we have taken upon ourselves to create that coherence in the collective consciousness of every nation which will change the mood of the thinking and behaviour of the people.

‘We are not going to allow the light of God to be swallowed by the mouth of the dragon anymore. We have developed the technique, and this will happen in peace. The message is clear. Our offer to the world is a very loving offer—invincibility to every nation.

‘Invincibility may be too much for the governments who are slaves of other governments; invincibility may be fearful for them. They will think, “Maybe we will not get so much money.” But that is slavery. We want to bring them the opportunity to have a masterly character in their government.

‘We are open to advising the people if they want to rise to invincibility. To raise your country to invincibility just a few people are needed. It is not in our programme to bring people from outside to any country and make it invincible, as this would be invading the country. . . .

‘Let us think together with cool minds. We welcome those who have not yet understood to raise their questions and understand. . . . If you are weak, you will be swallowed up. Either choose to be swallowed up, or let your weakness be swallowed up by the strength of invincibility. We welcome those who want to lead the world, enjoy a parental role, and protect their people.

‘Dr Hagelin’s Peace Government is going to prevail, in the same way cosmic energy and intelligence prevail throughout all change. The ever-changing galactic universe is going to continue and continue. The continuance of the universe is invincibility.

‘Come to live your own light, your birthright. Do not give in to slavery, my dear governments of the world. Ask questions if there are any, and rise to the state of freedom from problems.’

Dr Hagelin: ‘The democratic process has left the United States deeply divided, frustrated, and concerned about the future of America and the world. Peace-loving people do not know where to turn right now for representation so that their peace-loving interests are taken care of by the government. Today the inadequacy of the process of democracy to truly represent and attend to the needs of the entire population has been exposed. Now that it is so evident, people are wondering where to turn. To whom can peaceful people turn so that their needs and interests are attended to?’

Maharishi: ‘In the field of knowledge, Total Knowledge absorbs infinite dynamism in infinite silence. When the dynamism is so terrifying and so violent, then the dynamism comes to a peaceful end inside. This is the state of unification of silence and dynamism, which has been discovered to be a field of all possibilities. It has the characteristics of the Unified Field, where dynamism does not know where, in which direction, it is to flow.

‘The stop of the flow is in the field of silence, and this is the field of Total Knowledge. This is a state similar to Transcendental Consciousness, where silence is all that seems to be pervading. Dynamism has lost its existence and silence prevails. On the surface, there seems to be a loss of dynamism, but it is loss of that level of life which must be lost in order that silence can prevail. This is the beginning of the Peace Government.

‘Our Vedic Pandits in India are starting to be awake. They are functioning in that silence, in the transcendental field of the Unified Field, and enlivening the totality of Natural Law which is always evolutionary. So there is a vision not only of hope, but of the realization of the goal of peaceful dynamism—peace—dynamism in peace. This state is very good. At least the dynamism is at a halt.’

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, there are some questions on the deep principles underlying the Global Country of World Peace and the United States Peace Government. Governments have a fundamental philosophy or guiding principles that shape their policies in education, finance, taxation, trade, foreign relations, defence, and so forth. People often say that a government is conservative or liberal. Are there key, guiding principles that shape the Peace Government as well, and if so, what are they?’

Maharishi: ‘Knowledge of the Self. We can look at it on two levels. One is education, and the other is the subject of education. The subject of education is the Self. “Self” means something inside the body. So the study of the body is our specialty.

‘What I am indicating here is that all the different fields of knowledge—engineering, administration, and all these different values—can only be satisfied with the study of the body. The study of the body will be satisfied when it has unfolded the mind, the intellect, the ego, the Self, and the Unified Field, which is the field of Total Knowledge. This is going to be the subject of study in our Vedic University—the university of Total Knowledge.

‘Where is the seat of Total Knowledge? The seat of Total Knowledge is in the study of the body. The study of the body has so many different values in the physical field. All of them have been shown to be emerging from the field of consciousness.

‘This is the discovery of His Majesty Raja Raam, the First Ruler of the Global Country of World Peace. He has indicated on a practical level the one source of all different physical values—the Unified Field. The Unified Field is studied for its differentiated values in the body, all the flesh and bones, and in the different values of the mind and intellect.

‘The study of the body is the study of all engineering, politics, economy, defence, music, and so forth. These are all the different aspects of the total knowledge of “I”—my body, my mind. “My body” means my eyes, ears, nose, brain physiology, heart, and every different aspect, in their structure and function. They are the seats of different fields of knowledge.

‘Our Vedic University is going to give Total Knowledge of the person. The student will learn all the principles and applications of engineering, music, defence, and all the different values. That is why Total Knowledge is the subject matter that the students will study, and they will find fulfilment in the total field of knowledge.

‘This is Vedic Knowledge. Vedic Knowledge is the total field of knowledge. This will be satisfying to everyone because then there will be no unknown areas.

‘Today engineering and all these different values are prevalent. Knowledge is so fragmented. Knowledge of only engineering, politics, economy, music, defence, or administration is never satisfying. But the Total Knowledge of I, me, or mine is the lighthouse of the Constitution of the Universe. We are going to make this practically available in all areas of the administration of every government.

‘Without this knowledge, governments are scattered. Not knowing how to govern, they take delight in punishing. That is the lack of a good parental role for the people. They are not good parents if they have to punish the children all the time. Something is fundamentally lacking.

‘Now in this scientific age there should not be any reason to continue with this lack. The Peace Government is an example of the ideal system of administration.’

Dr Hagelin: ‘Next is a related question on the parental role of governments. In many countries there is a big debate about the purpose of government. Some people believe that government should be small, unobtrusive, and not so engaged in the lives of the people. Other people believe that government should be actively engaged in the lives of the people, ensuring that everyone has the best possible education, health care, etc., and passing laws to safeguard the environment. What does Maharishi mean when he says that a government should have a parental role in the nation?’

Maharishi: ‘A parental role is administration through love, and through the ability to care and to provide the children with anything they need. This is the parental role of the government and the parents.

‘How does the government fulfil all these needs? By giving the knowledge of total Natural Law within the consciousness of everyone, in their own self-referral Unified Field, through education. Then the government will have made them responsible to be naturally surcharged with the support of the invincible power of Natural Law.

‘Education is just like someone telling a person, “There is a treasure in your house.” By just giving the information, the man is made wealthy.
‘This is what the government has to do to make the individual recognize, on the level of his mind and intellect, the tremendous power and energy within himself. The government has to give just this information and knowledge to the children. Then the children will always be rich, wealthy, and completely self-sufficient. They will not create difficulties for themselves because they will not be faced with problems. They will be floating in success all the time, just with that awareness.

‘The government, through education, simply gives that awareness. It all depends on what kind of education the government gives its children. It is as if the government gives the children a house, but does not tell them that there is a treasure in a room underground. Giving them a house is all right, but if the awareness of the treasury underground in one room is not made clear to them, then they will never be fulfilled or satisfied living in the house.

‘Education has a great role in creating automation in administration. This knowledge is the light of God. It does not matter whether all the religious hymns and all the theorems are written in the language of mathematics, trigonometry or any field of the number systems, or described in any language, but they have to trigger cosmic intelligence in the awareness of the student.

‘Without this, the individual is roaming about in poverty in search of wealth. He is the owner of wealth in reality, but just not knowing it, he is poor. That is why there is all the education about God and divinity, and about Natural Law and the Unified Field.

‘It all depends how soon individuals take up our programme and raise the nation to invincibility, whether with the government or regardless of the government. Life is individual life, but a government can certainly help life to be in affluence through proper education.

‘It does not matter which family is ours. The children are ours, this generation is ours, and future generations are going to be our children. We are laying out Total Knowledge with proper care for our future family. It does not matter what there is in the present. We rejoice in our doing. Because we can do it, we are doing it for our own joy. It is not a favour to anyone; it is our own delight, that is all.’

Dr Hagelin: ‘This question about Vedic Knowledge comes up from the curious media from time to time. Most people agree that knowledge, scientific knowledge, develops over time. What we know today about the functioning of the human brain, and about health, agriculture, engineering, technology, and so forth is more advanced and therefore more effective than what we knew ten years ago or ten centuries ago. If that is the case, how is it possible that Vedic Knowledge, which Maharishi has said is as old as mankind, is more advanced than our most recent scientific knowledge? What makes Vedic Knowledge so special that it can solve the problems of our modern age better than the modern knowledge that has developed over centuries?’

Maharishi: ‘Modern knowledge that has developed over centuries is humanly designed knowledge with humanly coined phrases. But life is not humanly designed. Life, even if you take it from the Big Bang, has been for how long? Billions of years. Those who are fond of science should know that science is just a few centuries old.

‘What is science? Whatever modern science has discovered—let me be frank with you—is only an iota of total science. It is nothing. Human concepts can reach only so far and then nothing.

‘Science is supposed to be most developed in America and Germany. What has science created? . . . Is this a science of which you are proud?

‘Vedic Science is the basis of life—consciousness. The Unified Field has discovered the environment of consciousness, which is not a total thing. Vedic Science is a total science and technology. It is total because what you think, you can make happen. Now this is Vedic Science. See how far modern science has to go? What you can think to destroy, it can happen. America has been trying to destroy for a year and how many have been destroyed?

‘It will be wrong to be over proud of the scientific achievements. Modern science is in a stage of infancy. But we can quote the Unified Field because it is much better and can understand unification and globalization, though not in their absolute terms. In absolute terms what prevails is “I”. “I am Total Knowledge, I am the Self, I am the universe, I am Totality.”

‘Vedic Science is a complete science. Whether one understands it or not is a different thing. If there is a science and a technology which may be called a perfect science and perfect technology, it is the science of the Self, the science of consciousness, the science of the light of God. It is the light of God, total Natural Law, the Constitution of the Universe, the Veda—the Constitution of the Universe in Veda. It is available in one word, two words, three words, four words, and in millions of words.

‘Man-made science, or science comprehended by man, is not a very healthy or complete science. There is a science which makes the scientist completely absorbed, as a science, in himself. The phrase in Vedic Science is, “When you know it, you become it, you are it.” That is knowing by being. That complete absorption is the reality of unified wholeness.

‘With mathematically drawn unity, there is a mathematician, a process of drawing it, and a system of expressing it. It is man-made, so it is still the way and not the state. The state of science is where the method is the methodology itself. The scientist himself is the science, and turns into the technology.

‘Vedic Science, when it is understood, is pure Veda, pure knowledge. It is knowingness. Unity is in knowingness, Being, eternity. This is the ultimate, we say the light of God. Nothing is beyond it.

‘Dr Hagelin’s Peace Government is going to reveal what cosmic government is, what the Cosmic Constitution is, what automation in administration is, and what the globalization of human life is. This is Vedanta in the Vedic language—Vedanta, Yoga, Karma. They are self-evident, complete, total, unified wholeness. There is command over everything and command over thought.

‘That is our strength. We are thinking to have a unified world. We know we have to think with many people, and think in the way prescribed by Vedic procedures. Then we are going to achieve the most ideal system of administration.

‘This is a great truth. It depends on who has what knowledge. One can only work on the level of one’s knowledge. Ignorant people can only work according to their level of knowledge; knowledgeable people can only work according to their level; the enlightened can only work according to their level.

‘It is such a delightful thing that the country has come to a state of halt, or at least come to a state of halt from where it was going. Destruction can only go so far and no further.’
