Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. Dr Hagelin’s message is a beautiful echo from the eternal voice of the transcendental field, the field of Total Knowledge, the field of the ultimate discovery of all the physical sciences of today, and of the science of consciousness of all times contained in the Vedic Literature. Every word of Dr Hagelin’s introduction is a word of reality—total reality, the knowledge of the Unified Field—because that is the voice, the silent voice, that is now echoing in the words of the scientist of this scientific age. It is the eternally silent voice of the Constitution of the Universe. The Constitution of the Universe is the Veda, the flow of Total Knowledge that governs the infinite diversity of the universe with perfect order.

‘We realized, after all these fifty years of teaching Transcendental Meditation, that the thought of all the people in the world for many generations had been to be independent. “I am German”; “I am French”; “I am Italian”. And then, “Because I am German, I do not want to be captured by the French.” “Because I am Italian, I do not want to be captured by Germans.” This is the natural feeling of existence in freedom—not wanting to be captured by others, not wanting to be dominated by others. That means we do not want to be the slave of anyone; we want to be invincible in our own freedom. This is the natural desire of anyone.

‘Now, when someone says, “I am German—from here, Berlin, to the south, there”—from here to there, he feels is his domain. Another feels, “I am Italian—from here, north, to there, south, and from here, west, to there, east.” All these boundaries are dependent upon how much of a boundary a man will accept. “I am German.” “I am Australian. Australia is from here to there. From here to there, that boundary I will accept.” “I am Japanese. From here to there, I will accept.” This is the compromise against the universality of life.

‘All this nationalism or provincialism is a great compromise of the infinite creative potential and infinitely expanded freedom of man. “Depending on how little of a boundary I make myself, if someone else wants to come into that, then I will die for it [laughter]. I will die for my freedom.” Dying for freedom is a great shame to the eternity of life, which is the birthright of everyone. The eternity of life is the birthright of everyone.

‘What are we doing? We are taking mankind from age-old slavery to eternal freedom in dignity and honour. We want to make that dignity and honour invincible. This is a phase in the evolution of life.

‘What we have found these days is that the old people had been bicycling or travelling by motorcar or in a racing car—big, huge, long distances. Now they have helicopters—big helicopters—and there are big rockets that go with great speed and all. The speed has become faster and faster as more and more freedom has been lived by the people on earth.

‘Now, what are we doing? For the last fifty years, a field of eternal life has come to be the reality—Transcendental Consciousness, the field of infinite dimension, infinite potential. The freedom of infinite potential became a living reality of daily life for the people who adopted it. Now, what has come about is that even those who will not do anything for it will be captured by the cosmic influence of it, by the unavoidable cosmic influence of it.

‘How has the fate of mankind come to this? Just a few people—a few people—will be enough to make all the people inevitably begin to live the cosmic dimension of freedom, whether they know it or not, whether they want it or not. A few people will be enough to maintain the high dignity of life everywhere. And that is the plan that Dr Hagelin, the greatest scientist of this scientific age, the pride of this scientific age, is speaking of. It is very good that the world press is responding to his message of the Peace Government.

‘Beautifully, Dr Hagelin cited that clarion call of Vedic wisdom, “Heyam Duhkham Anagatam”—avert the danger that has not come. The greatest scientist of today is practically leading the people to step on to that eternal freedom and begin to live life in full accord with the Constitution of the Universe, in full accord with the light of God, in full accord with the intention of God, who created man in His own image. He wanted to see Himself multifold multiplied, so that they will see God here and God there, a god here and a god there, and a small god here and a big God there. Man was made in the image of God. That intention of the Almighty whispered in the life of everyone, that cosmic dimension of life—that divine dimension of life—is going to be a living reality for everyone now, irrespective of his understanding or anything.

‘A group of Yogic Flyers in a country—a few hundred or a few thousand in a country of many million population—will create just that light. One lighted lamp lights the whole area in the night. Like that, a few people, a few administrators of a country, will maintain a highly integrated national consciousness and will raise the dignity of a nation to the level of invincibility, eternal freedom in affluence, and fullness of knowledge and dignity. The result will be that all people will enjoy living the fullness of a healthy, wealthy life in freedom.

‘Now it is a matter of a few schools, a few colleges, and a few hospitals that are Vedic Universities, Vedic Colleges, Vedic Schools. “Vedic” means pertaining to knowledge—pertaining to Total Knowledge. These are being established here, there, and everywhere. Then, as soon as these groups of Yogic Flyers begin to exist in each country—five hundred people flying in one place, two hundred people flying in some smaller country—they will create an intensified coherence in the collective consciousness of the country so that all the people will be swinging in bliss. Without that, even now, people are swinging in waves of problems, and there is this cry here and that cry there, problems here and problems there, uncertainties here and uncertainties there, and conflicts here and conflicts there. People die for the freedom of their country. What are they dying for? Ask them, for what they are dying.

‘The days of darkness are coming to an end. The Dark Age, the age of lack of knowledge, is coming to an end. The Age of Enlightenment will be a living reality for everyone. Even now, some little signs have started to come up. The course of the night seems to be coming to an end, and the dawn, the new light, is dawning, dawning, dawning. Very soon the process will be over; the result will be in the hand of everyone. Every country is going to be a country of invincible dignity. Every country will have its cultural integrity—life governed by the cultural integrity of everyone. Ultimately, “cultural integrity” means the transcendental reality, bliss, where bliss and affluence prevail. That is going to be life on earth.

‘Dr Hagelin, keep on reminding the people. You have to say the same thing a thousand, thousand times. And then, because their brains have been sleeping for so long, many centuries, keep on giving the same message, and they will awake. The people are starting to establish schools everywhere—your Vedic Schools— and your Vedic Health Care System, which will take away all the wrong side effects of modern medicine. They will take away all the ignorance that is being spread through education and all that. So the time of real knowledge and its application is coming. People should just hear Dr Hagelin’s talk. They have to hear the same talk a thousand times. Then they will be freed from all the waves of ignorance in which life has been lived so far.

‘Bless the world with eternal freedom. This is the time for the really complete science of knowledge—the Total Knowledge of Natural Law, which is the knowledge of the Self, self-referral consciousness, Unity Consciousness. Very soon—I think in a few weeks or a few months—Dr Hagelin, you will not have to speak. Your speeches will continue to ring throughout all the future years of human existence, and they will be the reminders for every generation. So continue the whole thing.

‘Dr Hagelin, when you wanted to be President of the USA, you had the knowledge of ruling the country on the level of the Total Knowledge of Natural Law. But the people were not ready. So, what you took to heart was that you wanted to be a government. You could not be a government. Then you realized that the government is a limited agency. The government can do only what the collective consciousness of the nation promotes. Having realized this, you thought to turn to the collective consciousness of the country. Now, you have done that; you have turned to the collective consciousness of the country—you have turned to the governor of the government.

‘The government is governed by the collective consciousness of the country. Now you are changing the structure and the dignity and the capability of the collective consciousness. You are creating an integrated collective consciousness of the country. Creating coherence in the collective consciousness of a country through a group Yogic Flyers is such an easy thing. Take a thousand, two thousand people, put them to practise Yogic Flying, and you are the governor of the government.

‘You took that profession, and you called yourself the silent government. You were trying to be on the throne of the government, but that was not possible, because the government can do only what the national consciousness allows it to do. So it was very right for you to have taken recourse to national consciousness, and to do it through education. About a quarter of the population in every generation are students. Introduce this total field of knowledge, the Unified Field, as the knowledge of every university in a country, and the national consciousness will rise to integration. That integrated national consciousness will rule the government as a competent, ideal government, which will disallow the birth of any negative value—the birth of any enemy. That will be an ideal government. The example is there for everyone to follow—the government of the infinitely diversified, galactic universe.

‘You have presented the Constitution of the Universe to the government. And you have found it in one word, in two words, in three words, and in four words. You can keep on elongating it. Then you get a longer and longer version of the Constitution of the Universe, applicable to one point, two points, three points—any number of points of life, throughout the universe, for all time. This is beautiful. Your plan to enliven the total Constitution of the Universe in the simplest awareness of everyone is such a laudable goal. That is the goal which is going to prevail, and that will be the fulfilment of the Will of God.

‘Beautiful words about the Will of God have been said, “Let Thy Will be done on Earth as in Heaven.” This has been the aspiration of the wise to their gods, “Let Thy Will be done on Earth as in Heaven.” It is a beautiful, beautiful message of practical value, which is becoming a living reality in the life of everyone now through the influence in the environment.

‘Making laws and punishing those who do not follow the law has not proved to be a wise administrative policy. So a better administrative policy is coming up: you make the law, and make the law to be spontaneously lived by everyone so that no one disobeys the law, no one deserves suffering, no one suffers, and “Thy Will be done on Earth as in Heaven.”

‘It is the beautiful realization of all religions, the beautiful realization of all intellectual pursuits, and the beautiful realization of the normal, common theme of life, which drives the life of everyone from point to infinity. Such a beautiful achievement of Totality has been made practical right from childhood to the end of life. And when life is on this level, there is no end to life; it is an eternal life.

‘Congratulations to Dr Hagelin, who has made life which is so abstract into such a concrete, realizable reality of daily life for everyone, here, there, and everywhere. Soon Vedic Universities will be everywhere; soon Yogic Flyers will be everywhere. And the world will be a new world of enlightenment.

‘All glory to Guru Dev, and all glory to the Will of God. And all glory to the real inner nature of life, which is complete and total and bliss and eternal. Jai Guru Dev.’
