Opening Remarks

Maharishi: Jai Guru Dev. The joy that we experience from what Dr Hagelin says is just the joy experienced at a distance by a lamp that is lit. When we light the lamp, it is the joy of the lamp to radiate itself. When the joy radiates itself, there is no darkness to enjoy it [laughter]. It is the light itself that enjoys it. Whatever message the light can give, the message is enjoyed only by the light. There is no darkness to enjoy.
 
‘We are in a situation that whatever light is being radiated, we are there only to enjoy it. To whom are we speaking? There is no other than ourselves. The darkness is not there to return. It is a very beautiful picture. To whom are we saying it? We are talking to ourselves.
 
‘It is a beautiful thing that the world is rising to enjoy what it itself has always been, inside and outside. The light of wisdom does not come from anywhere. It comes from everywhere, because in the ultimate analysis that spark of wisdom which sees everywhere, which hears everywhere, and which touches everywhere, is everywhere. That wisdom of Natural Law is all over, infinitely spread and completely available at every point of infinity.
 
‘That is why I have been saying all the time, and I will continue to say that there is nothing new; it is the same thing. Now our saying is on the level of seeing. We have been saying, and now we ask everyone to see. And see where? See there where everyone is, where any seer is.

‘All over the world, there is some awakening, an awakening. This awakening for us is nothing new. For some, it may be new. The thing is, we think we are doing it. We are doing something which we can do. It is the level of consciousness that radiates in terms of any doing. The perfect level of consciousness is all over. In whatever words we say, it is all over, it was all over, and it will always be all over. From point to infinity, the reality is that it is, in its totality, all over. It is, in its perfection, all over. 

‘Now when we say “perfection”, what should we say? We can say the perfection of all silence and all dynamism, the totality of silence and totality of non-silence, which is opposite to silence. Opposite to silence is action. Everyone is only Totality. Everyone is a point of infinity, and everyone is infinity in every point. It is something that is always there, only those who are not opening their awareness do not have it. But this “not having it” is not in reality. It is only that one is not opening to oneself. Then one does not have the Self. Now one cannot say that he does not have the Self, because he is himself. One cannot say that he is not the Self. One can only say when one does not know it.
 
‘That is why all importance, all glory, is given to knowing. Knowing is a level of the wakefulness of the knower—how much the knower knows himself. That means how much of the light that he can radiate becomes his action, becomes his knowing, and becomes his doing.
 
‘We feel very happy. We feel we are creating, but we know what we are creating is the degree of knowingness of our Self. It seems to be we are creating, but we are only rising to our own purer and purer degree of knowing.

All we are doing and all we can say is in the degree of non-saying. That means all we can talk about transforming the quality of knowing and doing is by both things together—knowing and not knowing. We place ourself in the junction point of knowing and not knowing, and there we have both things in our awareness. What matters is how much we are able to comprehend our own knowing, how much we can fathom the knowing, and how much we can fathom the knowing when we are unknowing the other side of it, how much we are able to fathom the other side of it—knowing and unknowing.
 
‘This is the delicate point, the junction point, which was itself speaking through the brilliance of Dr Hagelin. He sees a government governing the universe, the infinite galactic diversity. He sees the government of Natural Law governing innumerable galactic universes, diversified values, in the unified state. Both things are always real. What matters is who sees them both in his one single awareness. He is the ruler. 

‘He is the ruler of the universe, the diversified galactic universe of huge physical galaxies floating in empty space with such unimaginable speed, but always in perfect order. Where is the secret of this enormous administering intelligence and energy? Where is the seat of this enormous intelligence and energy of the universe? It is within the galaxies and out of the galaxies, out of the galaxies between two galaxies, in the middle of the two galaxies, and in the middle of each galaxy, in the middle of solidity, in the middle of empty space. It is the relationship of the two empty spaces, inside the galaxy, and outside the galaxy between other two galaxies, like that. 

‘The administrator is in the middle, whether it is space or it is solid, physiological value, whether it is consciousness or physiology. The point of consciousness and the point of physiology is the complete expression of this knowledge in these terms. “These terms” means the point of physiology and in the point of consciousness. It is a point that is the ruler of the universe. Knowledge of the point is the knowledge of the ruler of the universe. 

‘Going through the whole exercise, it boils down to knowledge of anything by itself makes itself the ruler of the universe. Whatever is inside a galaxy, a physical structure, and whatever is in empty space, whatever is in the solid, whatever is in the fluid, whatever is in the air and empty space, the ruler is there. We say the ruler of the universe is in every point of the universe, whether the point is a solid, or liquid, or fluid, or fire, or empty space—whatever it is. What does it mean? It means the ruler is there where the ruled is. The ruler is all over. The ruled is all over. The two values of the ruling quality are always there: silence and dynamism.
 
‘When we look into who rules, we find the ruler where there are ruled people. There is a ruler where they are ruled. This is on the surface of life, we say. What is at the depth of life? The same thing—the ruler and the ruled. But in the depth, the ruler is no more a point; it is infinity, complete silence in the Totality, an ocean of silence, complete unmanifest. It has a name in the Vedic Literature: Purana.
 
‘ “Purana” means ancient. This is ancient: Purana, pure consciousness, complete knowingness. If we have a name for it with any reference to anything, the name does not refer to anything. It is transcendental, Transcendental Consciousness. It separates it from physiology. It is Transcendental Consciousness. It is experiencing Transcendental Consciousness, and knowing it, hearing it from the Vedic sounds. Somebody says, somebody hears—it is hearing it. Ultimately, who hears it? Transcendental Consciousness itself hears it. Who knows it? Transcendental Consciousness knows. So it knows itself; it hears itself; it sees itself. 

‘In our programme, people seeing themselves are somewhere singly here and there. They sit together and see themselves internally. The effect in the atmosphere is what we have been talking about for so many years. People have their inward travel; the influence they produce is outward, waves outward. You put a stone in water, and the water is deep. As the stone goes deep, by its going deep, it generates waves on the surface. The water is stirred in the deeper layers, and it creates stirs on all layers.
 
‘The process of the Transcendental Meditation Technique is taking the mind from the surface to the depth. Surface and depth of what? The surface and depth of the unfathomable deep ocean of consciousness, which is always self-referral. The journey inside creates circles of waves on the surface. This is our programme. The deeper we send our mind, the mind goes deeper and deeper, and waves are naturally set forth on the surface of the material world.
 
‘It is a beautiful programme. The procedure is describable and explainable to someone. The effect is completely automatic. We do not speak much about the world we see. We produce the effect now.

‘This organizing the structure of the Peace Government is producing the effect, as indicated by our mastermind of peace, who has seen diversity uniting and united as the Unified Field of all the Laws of Nature. He has seen it; he has recorded it; he has mathematically calculated it. And now he comes to share his programme. Now his programme is that all that one individual can experience—peace within himself—should come on to other individuals, should come on to the numberless individuals all around the world, and should come on to be enjoyed by all the people in the world.
 
‘It is happening. More and more people have this expansion of the particles of silence, expansion of the patches of silence. It will happen very permanently from the point inside—deep inside. Consciousness, fathoming deeper and deeper values of itself within itself will simultaneously radiate its waves. Its waves are waves of unity, waves of wholeness, waves of unity, waves of wholeness, waves of wholeness.
 
‘It is a very beautiful thing that we are enjoying in life, and it is good there are some people we can talk to about it. John Hagelin, tell them the whole journey is without distance and without doing. This we have been expressing for the last fifty years in the words “Yogasthah Kuru Karmani.” This we will always be saying, “Yogasthah Kuru Karmani”, established in unity, perform action. “Kurvann Api Na Lipyate.” There are two things: one is “Yogasthah Kuru Karmani”—established in unity perform action—and the other is that even while performing such an action, one does not remain involved. One continues to enjoy freedom even when moving around in the field of action. So action becomes a means of liberation for him; action becomes a means of liberation.
 
‘All these things we have been saying for all these years. All generations will continue to repeat the same thing. Fortunately, it is the same thing with which one is born, and the same thing which one lives in life. It is the same thing when one dissolves.
 
‘Enjoy the company that is yours. How much to say in this direction? Saying or seeing is unifying the seer and the seen. When one sees oneself, it is just seeing the unity in terms of seer and seen. It is a good thing to see. What are we seeing? Darkness becoming light. We are seeing the disappearance of the darkness. We will see as it is disappearing, but what is disappearing is not seen. Newer and newer values we see, and older and older values disappear on their own.
 
‘It is a very good thing. We are on action producing, not reaction. We are results oriented. With the Peace Government the performance and the activity will not be seen. The effect will be seen. Exactly when the candle is lighted, one sees light everywhere, light reflects from everywhere. No one sees darkness. No one even bothers to know how it is that what was there is no more there, it is gone. How is the light over? How does the light go? How does the darkness go away as the light comes? Nobody sees darkness disappearing. Nobody sees anything happen. But light happens everywhere. One does not see how the darkness disappears.
 
‘Coherence is appreciated more and more all over and in everything. But the disappearance of the darkness when pure brilliance was understood in terms of pieces of space and time, that is over.
 
‘Dr Hagelin, you are unfolding your creation of enlightenment, all oneness of everything, and all good to everyone just through your talking about the Peace Government. There is a belief that God said, “There was light”, and there was light. There was something as He said it. This is the saying of total intelligence, Total Knowledge, pure Total Knowledge, pure total intelligence, pure total language, purity speaking always to itself. Whatever level of consciousness—dreaming, deep sleep, waking, transcendental—in that is language itself, that is all. That language, that is itself.
 
‘We are on to that action in inaction. We have that knowledge of action; we have that administration in silence. We live unity in diversity. This is our world now and our world of tomorrow. This is our world now, which is going to be our world at all times with the Peace Government everywhere. 

‘There is nothing much to say. The only thing is to Be. This whole thing is so good. So tell them, Dr Hagelin. Tell them again and again about waves of silence.

‘The whole concept of the Constitution of the Universe is so beautifully, beautifully available at any level we want. If we want it on the level of a point, it is absolutely available. If we want it on the level of infinity, on that level it is available.

‘It is beautiful. You have described already that what the world is seeing today is the world of tomorrow. We are with those who present to us the eyes of the world, the ears of the world, the touch of the world, the feeling of the world—the world press. If there are some new visions this week, new questions, or new developments here and there of what is happening as it is happening, the transformations are seen by those who are fond of seeing new things.
 
‘Otherwise, those who are found in their reality smile and say, “Yes, yes, yes”. They smile and say to us, “Are you doing it?” We say, “No, no, we are not doing it.” The doer is something in us that is not seen. If one does not see the doer, the Atma, in terms of Brahm—local in the body and all-pervading in the universe—then one sees in terms of this and that, in terms of diversity.
 
‘Express the dialogue of knowledge to knowledge, or the dialogue of knowledge to the process of knowing. This is what science does: it investigates into sequentially new values, and keeps on knowing and knowing and knowing. Then knowing is Being; observed is observing, or observing is observed. The march to find is itself the goal to be found.
 
‘All these expressions are all a reality on a level where unity is diversity. Dr Hagelin, ring the bell of unity in diversity, or the bell of diversity in unity—both ways. Speak something from the level of silence. You are the president of the most creative country of the world, the President of the Peace Government. Your administration is in the field of silence.
 
‘This establishment of the Peace Government is such a joy. One thing is that we do not have to do anything. It is peace; it is success; it is enough; it is not doing. That means it is in the field of no doing, in the field of non doing, in the field of silence. It is such a restful state of Being.
 
‘Handle the press on the surface, Dr Hagelin.’



Question: One Solution to All Problems

 

Dr Hagelin: ‘There is a follow-up question on Maharishi’s remarks from last week. Maharishi invited governments to bring their problems to him. Maharishi said he would give them a technique to solve all their problems. If every problem has a cause, and if different problems of poverty, war, famine, and disease stem from different causes and therefore require different knowledge, different technologies, different solutions, how can one technique to be used solve all problems?’ 

Maharishi:
‘Problems are obviously in the field of darkness. Bring the light. There is one thing to do and you have the solution of all problems. This one thing is the formula from the Upanishads in the Vedic Literature. Know one thing. And what is that? Your Self, because problems are self-made. Know your Self. And that is the area of no problems, no solutions, because there is no other. There is no duality; it is a state of unity, peace eternal.
 
‘When self-referral peace, which is eternal, is not awake in one’s consciousness, then the consciousness is up and down and up and down. Any kind of up or any kind of down and so many kinds of problems will be there in the state of not knowing one’s Self.
 
‘If there is light, then there is no darkness. If there is lack of light, then there is all darkness. So what are we doing? We are lighting, each is lighting, and so many together are lighting their own lamps—diving into themselves. In so doing, it is just like the stone going deep into water. The water spontaneously creates waves on the surface.
 
‘It is a beautiful thing. The formula is: know thy Self. Then, in this knowing, there is nothing other than itself. So the basis of ups and downs, problems, suffering, and all this is gone when one is awake in one’s Self. It is exactly the light, and all the pangs of darkness go. In darkness, everything wrong happens; in light, nothing happens, that is all.
 
‘The whole thing is so simple. There is nothing much to worry about. Just enjoy. Now the time is for joy—the time is for joy for everyone
. 

Question: The New Enlightened Political Paradigm



Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you, Maharishi. There is one more question of great interest. A prominent political analyst in the US and former US Senator from Colorado, Senator Gary Hart, published an essay this week in which he acknowledged the deplorable state of democracy in America. Senator Hart called for a new, more enlightened approach to administration. He said, “We are in a totally new political age, an age beyond traditional political parties and party politics. And we must create the next enlightened political paradigm.” Maharishi, what do you see as the next enlightened political paradigm, and how could the United States, for example, help create that new paradigm today?’ 


Maharishi:
It is being generated on its own level. Once you have started functioning on the level of the Peace Government, it is no surprise that those governing on the level of non-peace will see that the Peace Government is a better form of government. Everyone, very soon, is going to realize that this system of democracy, which is creating conflicts everywhere, creating disorder everywhere, is only suitable in a country where “divide and rule” is the sense of administration, in a country which says, “Do killing in the name of saving”. A planet of wars: we do not want to go into that area, since everyone knows what it is.  

‘The Peace Government is very, very infectious in the field of government which is non-peace. We must congratulate all these people who have begun to see the light. It is beautiful. More and more such people will be there who begin to see what is coming. And what is coming is more and more light. What is going is more and more ignorance; more and more of ignorance is disappearing. More and more enlightenment, more and more knowledge, more and more wholeness, more and more Totality, more and more light of God is going to permeate in human awareness. It is already there on its own level. It is all-pervading, omnipresent, omniscient. Only, in some human awarenesses, it is still closed. But the time is for them to come up fast, because it is so enjoyable.

‘Say more about what this Senator said. It is such a good thing that a man sunk in diversity sees the futility. He sees in what a muddle, in what muddy water, he was swimming. He was enjoying swimming, but now he begins to see he was swimming in a lake. The joy of swimming was there, but it was muddy. Tell him that you are purifying the water, and that he started to swim in his own clear water, in his own clear consciousness. Say what he said. It is very enjoyable to hear.’

Question: The Experience of a Man in Unity Consciousness

Dr Hagelin: ‘There is one final question that has to do with something Maharishi has been describing. Maharishi speaks often about how the Unified Field is a field of eternity that is beyond time and space. How does a man established in the Unified Field, Transcendental Consciousness, experience time and space? Is a man in Unity Consciousness ever in a hurry?’


Maharishi:
Anyone who is in a hurry means he wants to quickly come out of the muddle; he wants to quickly come out of pain, suffering, turbulence, and disorder. For anyone established in his total reality, there is no hurry for him. That is because he is on the level of himself; he sees there is nowhere more to go, nothing to achieve. He is Totality, all in himself. He is bliss, so there is no more search. He is on the plateau; he roams about on the plateau. He is not on the peak where there is a danger of falling on this side or that side. His peak is a plateau. He himself is, in his individuality, a complete universality—nothing to say, nothing to go to, nothing here or there. Everything is always here, and everything is always there—no more to go to.
 
‘It is very beautiful. I think your Peace Government has such a beautiful, parental role that this will be enjoyed by all the people—either as the ruler or ruled—it does not matter who. The Peace Government is such a parental role. In the parental role, the parents always desire, always want the children to be more than what they are. This is the parental role. They want to see the children always become more than what they are.
 
‘This is the desire of even the topsy-turvy governments. Even today, the head of every government desires, “What more can I do for my people?” He is made of the parental role. The president of every country, the prime minister of every country—anyone in the ruling field—always desires, “What more can I do for my people?”
 
‘This parental role will be so beautifully fulfilled by the Governors of the Peace Government. What will they do? What are they doing now? Establishing universities, Vedic Universities. “Vedic” means total; “total” means international and global. Total Knowledge, international knowledge, global knowledge to every single student is enormous—just like with the light, and the darkness is over.
 
‘The global, international, cosmic law governing any level of life has no problems because there is no one to fight the other. That is why the sense of a unified government rising in the currently governing structures of the world, the governments, is a natural thing. Only, we will see how long it takes. It is not going to take much time.
 
‘The whole thing will be happiness, harmony, and bliss. This is so infectious. Everyone is going to have it, and soon we will hear our world of differences will be a beautiful mosaic of differences. This we always say. A beautiful mosaic of differences will begin to be appreciated, that is all. The thing is there; it will begin to be appreciated. Very good.
