Opening Remarks

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. Yes, Dr Hagelin, what we have been saying so far is now the practical reality of many nations. What was true for single individuals, through the programme of Transcendental Meditation, is now becoming a living reality of nations. It is no more only individuals; it is the nations now.

‘It is a very good time for the world press to note that if the press is a world press, then the world news is that the world is being renewed—renewed in the sense that the world is rising to be a world of peace and harmony and good health and affluence—a world of invincibility. Invincibility is going to become a living reality for every nation now through all these programmes of Vedic Knowledge and Vedic Action through Transcendental Meditation.

‘All that the world has known—all these conflicts and quarrels and negativity and all—all this is going to the background, as when the sunrise comes, when the dawn comes, then the night is put to the background. This is going to be.

‘Every week now the world press will notice the rise of an integrated nation. From all the two hundred countries in the world—including quite important countries in Europe, America, and Asia—every week a country will be rising in coherence. Every week a country will be rising in invincibility. One a week, I have estimated very conservatively; every week, an invincible country will rise. This is after one country, Holland, has been enjoying invincibility for four months.

‘All the good effects of national consciousness rising to invincibility have been seen in Holland. It has been for about four months—this is the fourth month now—that Holland has been enjoying invincibility. And after this, I am now saying, “Every week, a country is going to rise to the coherence of invincibility as Holland has.”

‘See what country comes next week, and the next week, and the next. Two, three, four, five, six countries come up, and then the whole world consciousness will rise in coherence from the influence of all these five, six countries. Positivity is like the light; negativity is like the darkness. One candle, two candles, three candles, four candles, then a big hall is fully lighted. Like that, the national consciousness of two hundred countries in our world are not going to take two hundred weeks. Dr Hagelin, tell them how quickly the coherence rises—very quickly.

‘So I can only say, “Watch what comes tomorrow, what happens tomorrow, and what country begins to show signs of rising invincibility.” The betterment from rising to invincibility is first seen in the field of economy. Dr Hagelin, tell them how the economy of Holland and now how the economy of America has started to rise, rise, rise.

‘It is now time for the bell of invincibility, that is rising somewhere in some country, to echo. The echo has started to be heard in different countries. It is no more necessary for me to explain the mechanics of transformation when a few people practise TM: how they increase the positivity in the whole national consciousness and how it begins to creep into the neighbouring country’s national consciousness.

‘It is very good news. We are very happy about it. After about thirty, forty, fifty years, it has started to happen. And it will not take a long time. It takes many hours for the sun to rise, but once the dawn is there, immediately the sun begins to spread and becomes the midday sun. Good values are coming up. There is still a lot of nuisance going on in the world, but all that is going to be completely washed off—automatically washed off, completely.

‘Inform them now, Dr Hagelin, how the first rise of positivity towards invincibility is seen in the economy of a country. That was seen first in Holland; now it is seen in America. So it is not a matter of a small country or a big country. If there is a nation, it is going to be more integrated, more coherent—more, we could say, in the direction of Heaven. More heavenly life, more heavenly life. . . .

‘Heaven on Earth—it is so beautiful. These are the days coming to us. We have done enough. Now we just swing in the cradle of Heaven on Earth. We have done enough work. . . .

‘We enjoy bringing Heaven on Earth. But the credit, of course, is to the light of God. It is the light of God bringing Heaven on Earth. It is really something to be enjoyed. It is beyond words. When a wave of bliss comes, it is beyond words. Words cannot speak about it. It is really beyond words, that is all—beyond words.

‘So tell them, Dr Hagelin; tell them to enjoy. There are different types of writers—writers of science, writers of fiction—but this wave of bliss is indiscriminately for everyone to enjoy Heaven on Earth. Enjoy it. There is nothing for me to say anymore; I have said enough. It will be good to have. Jai Guru Dev.’ 

Question: Functioning of the Constitution of the Universe

Dr Hagelin: ‘If Maharishi would like, there are a couple of questions from the course that I think are quite interesting, if Maharishi would like to address a question or two.

‘This is on the functioning of the Constitution of the Universe in the life of a nation. Maharishi speaks frequently about the coherence-producing effect that his groups of Yogic Flyers will have on national consciousness, and says that “the Constitution of the Universe will begin to function in the life of the nation”. Maharishi, what are the first signs that the Constitution of the Universe is beginning to function in national life? Is the reduction of crime and violence one of them? And if so, how does the Constitution of the Universe, the Unified Field, give rise to reduced crime and violence, for example?’ 

Maharishi: ‘There is a regulatory system in the universe. The sun and moon rise on time. The whole natural phenomenon is not happening at random. It is happening in a regulated way. So something must be regulating them. Someone must be regulating them. And what is that? In the religious language, it is called the Will of God; in the scientific language, we choose to call it “Natural Law”.

‘ “Natural Law” means from infinity to a point. Creation is in terms of all levels of activity from a huge level of infinity to a small level. From infinite to finite, levels of activity are going on in the universe, and they must be regulated by someone; otherwise, there will always be collapse everywhere.

‘So there is a regulatory system, and that is what regulates the order in the universe. The order in the universe is such that everyone and everything is always evolving—becoming more and more and more. This is the universe: unified and “versified” state, the diversified state of life in a unified manner. This is what all the different disciplines of science have discovered: there is order. And order is increasing as one goes to a more and more total value of law—holistic value of law.

‘Law is always there, and that is called Cosmic Law—Total Natural Law. And when that Total Natural Law comes to be consciously experienced by the individual mind, that individual mind is in the direction of cosmic mind—or we can say, ultimately, the individual mind is in terms of cosmic mind. And that is the individual potential.

‘The potential of the individual is cosmic. And the individual is governed by so many, many laws. The infinity of Natural Law is engaged in conducting the affairs of the individual, so that the individual always remains connected with the cosmic, a part of the cosmic.

‘There is no doubt about something regulating the pace of life of everyone. In that also comes the administration of a nation and of nations, or the administration of part of a nation. When human affairs are governed by human mind, then human weaknesses and human failings come to govern life. And they make a mess of the whole thing, as the situation is now or as it was yesterday and throughout all the past of human life, wherever human affairs were all administered by human mind. The human mind has its human failings, and they create a mess of it.

‘A government which is supposed to help the person, puts the person in jail. Incapable of making him a success, the government puts him to jail. Such inadequate values in the system of administration call for a wiser system of administration—calls for a system of administration which will be not only handled by weaknesses of human mind, but also by the supreme value of human mind, which is the divine mind, the cosmic mind, the universal mind.

‘We have got the techniques for getting into universal mind. We took some people around us, and we experimented. Now, we have come to a level where a few hundred people in every country practising those values make the national consciousness invincible. This will result in a flawless performance of administration. All governments will succeed. The government will not punish a man. Government will always reward a man, because the man will always do good and good and good.

‘To be governed by inadequate values or governed by adequate values—the human mind has both possibilities. On one level are human failings, human weaknesses, suffering, and all that. The same mind can work on a cosmic level, and everywhere there will be success, no failure, no problem, no suffering, no weakness—everywhere self-sufficiency, royalty, divinity. It is the same mind, the same body, but if it is functioning on a finer, finer level—very fine levels—where weaknesses have no place, it is a pure mind, divine mind, almighty, we say, light of God, Total Natural Law. Functioning on that level, it is all success everywhere.

‘We got the technique for it, we used it, and we found that “Yes, it is so.” So we make our world peaceful and happy. There is nothing unusual about it. It is the nature of knowledge. We got hold of this knowledge.

‘It is like a man, who feels a tree is drying out—the branches are falling, the leaves wilting away—and who goes to water the leaves, water the branches, water the fruits and all, but the tree continues to fall. Someone gets the hint from someone that, “You water the root to enjoy the fruit. If you want to enjoy the fruit, you water the root, water inside, and attend to the sap.” So he starts to attend to the sap, and the tree begins flourishing; everything becomes better and full of life.

‘That is the difference between functioning from a level of Total Knowledge, and functioning from artificial knowledge or partial knowledge—partial or total. Function from Total Knowledge and the whole of Nature is for you; function from partial knowledge and it is all inadequacies and all misfortunes that come to you. It depends on the knowledge—knowledge. And knowledge is very complete in the Vedic Literature.

‘Veda—Veda is the word, the total value of knowledge. The total value of knowledge is there in the Veda. And the tradition of masters who hold the custody of Total Knowledge is the Vedic Tradition of Masters. It is not found anywhere, here or there. We got it; we use it. All glory to Guru Dev, the world is becoming a new world. All these conflicts and difficulties and quarrels will all be a thing of the past very soon. Every week, a new country will rise in invincibility. And soon the world will be Heaven on Earth.

‘Everyone is fortunate these days. Everyone’s fortune is coming together and working out the destiny for everyone—every national life. Congratulate the whole population of the world now, Dr Hagelin, and through your words you will reach everyone on earth, and they will all be happy.’

Comment on Invincibility Course Experiences

Dr Hagelin: ‘Jai Guru Dev, Maharishi. It was such an exquisite and beautiful answer—such a profoundly practical answer. It is such a rising good fortune for the world. And as Maharishi described a few moments ago, this transformation is really beyond words—the bliss is beyond words.

‘Maharishi, it might be very interesting for the press now to know that, in Washington, DC, and Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa, there are flanks of the Invincible America Course where founders of invincibility for the country have come together. This is part of Maharishi’s very brilliant strategy of creating an invincible, peaceful America: have an influence from the centre of the country—near the geographic centre at Maharishi University of Management, Maharishi Vedic City—and have a local and concentrated influence of unity, bliss, and invincibility right in Washington, DC, to exert a maximum influence of peace on the US government, which has a wide impact on events and trends in the whole world.

‘These founders of invincibility, Maharishi, are having very deep experiences of peace and invincibility—the Unified Field or Atma within—on their course. Perhaps, Maharishi might even be willing to comment on some of these experiences and bring out the significance of these deep experiences in the important mechanics of national transformation to invincibility.’

Maharishi: ‘The experiences themselves are their commentary. One wants to Be, and one wants to Be, and one wants to Be. This shows there is something fascinating. And when one would like to Be, and to Be forever, that shows the path is the path of bliss, bliss, bliss. The path is the path of progress. And the path is not a task. It is an automatic draw into the ocean of bliss. That is what comes out as a commentary on on the different aspects of the experiences of our very fortunate people who are creating Heaven on Earth. It is very good. Well done.
