'Now I welcome the influence of the world press to bring the message of—Total Knowledge—to every individual in our world and invincibility to every nation in our world. Whatever life has been so far, it has been endeavouring to be better and better. Now should be the time to step onto the plateau of the fulfilment of all the endeavors of the wise throughout the ages.'—Maharishi

20 July 2005 Press Conference Highlights

Opening Remarks

Maharishi: Jai Guru Dev. It is a very good day for the world press to bring out the news that tomorrow we are celebrating the most precious day, celebrating the blessings of Guru Dev, who brought us to create in our world, for all times, life based on total knowledge of Natural Law.

‘Life based on total knowledge of Natural Law we are celebrating tomorrow, as the annual celebration of 2005, in order to review our achievements for the well-being of the world and to refresh our programmes for establishing a very sound foundation for all the future of mankind, for everyone’s life to be in harmony, in peace, in fulfilment. Today, we are full from reviewing our achievements of the past year. Within these coming sixteen days, we will enjoy a global celebration of our aspiration to create all life in our dear world to be full of peace and harmony and happiness.

‘All these fifty years, year after year, have given us more and more confidence in what we have been doing all the time. Now we are almost on the plateau of achievement where everywhere in the world, life can be perpetually set on a level which really belongs to it. The level of life that belongs to life is perfection—no suffering, no negativity, nothing wrong, no mistakes, all peace, happiness. Throughout the ages, the wise have been singing the glory of God and teaching the programmes to arrive at the altar of God. In this scientific age, we are all set to achieve the goal of all the pursuits of all the wise throughout the ages.

‘Today, the world has twenty-two Rajas, those administrators of the world whose consciousness is awake on its own value. “Consciousness awake on its own value” means self-referral consciousness on a level from where total Natural Law functions. The creation, cosmos, and galactic universe have their source on that level of intelligence—on that level of consciousness—which is totally established on its own level. The transcendental level of consciousness is that level from where total Natural Law promotes life, maintains life, and maintains order in the infinite diversity of the galactic universe.

‘It is such a joy, for us all engaged in this, that days and nights the Rajas dream on that level from where the whole creation emerges, emerges, emerges. Their hold of consciousness is on that level which is eternally on its own authority, on its own dignity, on that level which we know to be Transcendental Consciousness.

‘Veda is the voice of the Transcendent. Those studying the Veda are fortunate; each word is deeply embedded in the transcendental, unmanifest field—each word of the Veda fully embedded in the transcendental, self-referral field. It transforms itself in the gap and becomes another word, and transforms itself in the gap again and becomes another word.

‘A word and a gap, and a word and a gap, and a word and a gap—each following word is a commentary on the previous word. Each following letter is a commentary on the previous letter. Each following phrase is a commentary on the previous phrase. Each following sentence is a commentary on the previous sentence. Each following paragraph is a commentary on the previous paragraph. Such perfect sequential order, beyond any thought, this is the reality only in Transcendental Consciousness.

‘Veda is not a human concept, not a human creation. If you really can conceive of what I am saying, each following letter is a commentary of the previous letter. Each following word is a commentary of previous word. Each following phrase—I am not using the Sanskrit terminology—each following phrase, many, many words, is a commentary on the previous phrase. Each following sentence is a commentary on the previous sentence.

‘Such beautiful sequential flow of the Vedic text, who made it? The verdict is: it is not made by anyone. It has made everyone. Veda is called Nitya and Apaurusheya; it is eternal and it is uncreated. It is uncreated. This eternal uncreated becomes authentic for anyone who wants to have ultimate authenticity. Now we are working on that ultimate authenticity—the verdict of the Veda.

‘We have known the Veda not through our intellect, not through our mind, not through our senses, not through our behaviour, but through our own fully awake Being—transcendental Being, fully awake. There is the intelligence of the Raja. We have fortunately now, with us here, twenty-two Rajas. Today they have divided the world, all the 220 countries.

‘I think Dr Morris will explain to you how the world is going to be ruled by total Natural Law from tomorrow, from the day after tomorrow. It is not a many-years plan. It is a plan of today, of tomorrow, of this week, of this month, of this year.

‘What will the globalization of all countries do to every country? It will raise every country to invincibility. The sovereignty of every country will rise to invincibility, and every country rising to invincibility will create permanent world peace.

‘Even if there is one little country which has not risen to invincibility, it will be like a little thorn in the family of nations, pricking the union of all nations, all the time creating difficulty. Therefore, our programme for permanent world peace is not based on either little economy or little politics or a little this or a little that. It has no shadow of any little partitioned patriotism, as Dr Hagelin has very clearly, very simply, stated. Narrow patriotism is like a thorn in the family of nations—every country trying to do this, trying to do that.

‘We appreciate all the efforts so far to have a United Nations and to have all the countries live in peace and harmony. We appreciate them all for what they have aspired to do in the past centuries, past decades, and past years, because they genuinely tried all their best. But what could they do to something which they did not do?

‘Even in the present, countries are trying to be so patriotic. One country goes to the other, and someone goes to fight, someone goes to shake hands, someone goes to praise, someone goes to abuse. But all these efforts on the human level were all right, but not sufficiently vital enough, not sufficiently strong enough, not sufficiently intelligent enough to be on that level where the entire diversity can be unified.

‘Diversity can be unified. The situation is that diversity is already unified. It is only a matter of a viewpoint. Now in this scientific age, that viewpoint is very obvious—some unified state of reality.

‘In the midst of all that, what we are hanging on? We are hanging on a very delightful level. We adore His Majesty Raja Raam for his research in correlating the structure of the Vedic texts with the physiological structure of every human being—a very great discovery. The scientists of the world have started to recognize this. They have taken a few years, because each scientist is busy in his own field. This discovery is that the Vedic Literature and the sequential organization of the flow of the Vedic Literature matches with the flow of the physiological structure of the membranes and all that the physiology is and the whole brain physiology is. The whole body’s physiology is made of all those, exactly those sequentially developing, as I said, word for word, phrase for phrase, sentence for sentence, paragraph for paragraph, chapter for chapter. Each follows as a commentary of the previous. This enormous, non-human organization is available in the physical structure of human brain physiology.

‘The whole human body and extending its reality to the cosmic body, the whole cosmic body—whole individual body and the whole individual cosmic body—is the replica of the Vedic structure. How many universes are there? Innumerable. Each is just the replica of that sequentially structured flow of consciousness, the flow of total intelligence of Natural Law. The entire universe, from point to infinity is a play and display of total Natural Law. And that everyone is.

‘With this, scientific knowledge of the reality of the individual in the reality of the entire cosmic life, entire life of the universe, is our authority—I would say—is our knowledge, is our action. Therefore, our plan is not a long, many-years plan. Our plan is: today, tomorrow, this week, this month, this quarter, this half a year, this year, finished.

‘It is a very, very good, bright day. Dr Hagelin, invite our Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace to tell the world press today how important is the day tomorrow. It is opening a new sunshine for all mankind’s destiny for all future. It is a great joy; there is no end to our joyfulness. We can ramble on in our waves of happiness all the time. We want all our dear world family to be like that. And tomorrow is a good day to strike.’

Question: Question: Plans for Reconstructing the World

Dr Hagelin: ‘There has been a huge amount of press coverage of Maharishi Vedic Architecture in the past few weeks and of Maharishi’s plans to rebuild the world in harmony with Natural Law. Here is a follow-up question: Maharishi speaks boldly about his plans to bring Transcendental Meditation into the schools, to establish peace-creating groups in every country, to provide Vedic Organic food to the people. I can envision how those plans could be achieved, as hugely ambitious as they may sound. But when Maharishi talks about reconstructing the whole world according to his Vedic Architecture, I am not sure what to expect. How does Maharishi expect to rebuild the entire world? What are his plans?’

Maharishi:
A non-Vastu house is always producing negative effects in this way or in that way—in any way. As an example, I am asking today the world press to ask their own governments to see how the government buildings are built—if they are oriented properly according to the architecture of Natural Law. Vedic Architecture means just north, south, east, west: the main entrance should be in the east, and any entrance in the south or west will be inauspicious in so many ways. It will create harm, and the people living there will not know why the children are fighting with each other, why the children are sick, why they are going into loss all the time, and why the business is not sufficient.

‘The whole destiny of the person has its basis on a lot of it. There are other factors which have their own influence, but the orientation of the house in which one lives has a very great influence on the state of peace and prosperity in fortune of the people. Because builders are everywhere, only the people have to know the cause of the inconvenience, the quarrels, the difficulties, the negativity, the loss in business, the frustration in the family. If the people know that the cause is the wrongly built house in which they are living, immediately they will leave it.

‘I have told people who did not know that all kinds of negativity—this, this—are features when the building is like that. This will be the influence, if the building is like that. When the people know, then there may come a time—I do not want to say it—that the people may sue the builders saying, “You built wrong. You have given us a wrong building.”

‘This is an awakening in terms of the technique of laying out the building. The world is a big world, we know, but everyone in the world wants to be happy, peaceful. No one wants to meet with failures. When I started the Movement, people said, “Oh, we are practical people; how we can close the eyes for twenty minutes?” I said, “No, you close the eyes. You close your door for eight hours and you sleep, and you are fresh. So you close your doors, you close your eyes for twenty minutes, and you will feel fresher.”

‘Like that, people have started to feel that what was told to them was right. After fifty years, I found that now it is possible to handle the fortune of groups of people—handle the fortunes of the nations—by handling the people in group meditation. So this thing developed. Now we are in a position to feel very at home.

‘I appreciate the question. “World reconstruction” is a great imaginary word—world reconstruction. How can you reconstruct the world? We can reconstruct the world. The example is that during the rains, drop by drop falls. From the clouds the rain comes in drops, but these drops flood the ocean—like that, one by one, just one by one. This one by one will have a sweep over the whole population of the world, because knowledge has a miracle. The moment people know “I can be happy”, immediately they go for it—immediately they go.

‘The whole field of education, the field of health, and all these different fields, which we are implementing, have been implemented by human intelligence. Now we have the knowledge of that superhuman intelligence, divine intelligence, Vedic intelligence, intelligence of total Natural Law. Now we have the knowledge of it. Now, everything will be right, in its proper proportion, completely in accord with the total dignity of life.

‘What is the total dignity of life? The total dignity of life is cosmic. Cosmic is the range of authority of every human being. Now because of lack of knowledge, human life was lived on the basis of human concepts. Now it is the time for the Veda to wake up. And now we feel we have a right instrument for total Natural Law to shape the destiny of mankind and create a beautiful, beautiful world. We are aware of the six billion population of the world. So at least a billion homes have to be built, but drop by drop.

‘We are calling all the Rajas to take care of their ten countries. They will raise their voice. The press is there in every country. The press is always searching for so many good things to radiate. Every press in every country is bothered by all the difficulties in the country on the governmental level and on the people level—sickness and all those difficulties. Everywhere, our message has been received, and now there is a flashlight. You put on the switch, and there is a flashlight—a big flashlight.

‘It is a very great joy for us. Our aspiration is very, very inspired because of this computer age. From one place, we can influence all the people in the world—from one place. Communication is so instant. Computerized communication gives us very great encouragement to launch the whole thing quickly and flash the whole thing.

Question: The Role of the Teacher

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, there is a question on the special role of the teacher, the Guru, in gaining the full awakening of enlightenment. The reporter asks, “In every news conference, Maharishi pays tribute to his teacher and to the tradition of Vedic teachers for giving the knowledge and technique of Transcendental Meditation to gain enlightenment. Is the technique of Transcendental Meditation and other advanced programmes sufficient to gain enlightenment, or is there an indispensable role that a teacher plays to guide an individual on the path to enlightenment? And if so, what would that role be?” ’

Maharishi:
‘The role is that the teacher is absolutely woven into this knowledge. And when the knowledge is in our awareness, it is the total teacher that is in our awareness. It says in the Vedic Literature about the teacher, “Na Guror Adhikam, Na Guror Adhikam, Na Guror Adhikam.” There is nothing greater than Guru; there is nothing greater than Guru; there is nothing greater than Guru, because Guru is the embodiment of all that is greatest.

‘Guru is Brahm. “Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnur.” These are not the words of adoration; this is the description of the reality of Guru. Guru is on the level of Totality personified. When Guru speaks, it is the Totality that speaks. Words of the Guru are the words of the Veda. Veda is only heard from the Guru. So Guru means the Totality. If one is in the sense of Guru all the time, one is in the sense of total Natural Law and its total organizing power; there is nothing greater than that.

‘That is why Guru is completely natural in our awareness. It is not a matter of anything that is from outside or anything. It is completely natural. It is simple. It is Totality. It is a great thing. One knows it in being that level of relationship. “Na Guror Adhikam”—there is nothing greater than Guru, nothing greater than Guru.

‘Guru Purnima is the Full Moon of the Guru—one day of the year. In the Vedic Calendar, each day is attributed to some Devata, to some special creative intelligence—Sun, Moon, Shiva, Vishnu, and all. There are an enormous number of Devatas, embodiments of the Kriya Shakti. “Kriya Shakti” is the power of action. There are two things, basically: the silence and action, silence and activity, infinite silence and infinite activity, and both in perfect accord with each other. Perfect silence, perfect dynamism: this is Brahm—this is Totality.

‘The Guru is Totality. He has, as it is said in the Vedic Literature and with reference to what Dr John Hagelin just said, “Pripad Asyamritam Divi”. That means three-fourths is Amrit. “Amrit” means eternal. Three-fourths is eternal; one-fourth is juggling around.

‘Three-fourths is eternal. This is what makes us stand on our own feet eternally. We are embedded in the three-fourths of the unmanifest, as Dr Hagelin said. This unmanifest, this Avyakta, is three-fourths, and the manifest is one-fourth. Three-fourths is unmanifest; one-fourth is manifest. The changes take place in the unmanifest. What continues in the field of flow is three-fourths. So the dominant factor is three-fourths of Totality. . . . Reality belongs to the nonchanging eternity, absolute eternity, absolute.

‘This whole thing is very real. The other day, I talked some about this—the Absolute Number. Today, reference was made to the number. The Absolute Number is that which guides the equations of Brahman Consciousness—how life is lived in relativity, even though saturated with absolute value.

‘The absolute value means the togetherness of silence and dynamism together. Together dynamism and silence are unity, but some frail fluctuations of the relativity. There is a word in the Vedic Literature, “Jivan Mukti”. “Mukti” means freedom. “Jivan” means living life. Living life is always in the relative, but living life in perfect freedom, how is it possible? It is possible because you live on the level of one-fourth, and you continue to live on the level of three-fourths. So three-fourths eternity, one-fourth fluctuations, like that.

‘It is a very beautiful thing. It is a very beautiful thing with our international universities everywhere, and these fundamental levels of mathematics and equations. We are going to introduce the Absolute Number, and the Absolute Number in the equation, the theory of numbers, and then the theory of language, the theory of the alphabet—vowels and consonants. The absolute of the numbering system is zero.

‘The absolute of language is “A”, total “A”, sound of Totality. Everything is within this sound of Totality, “A”. What are those things within “A”? This is the Vedic language, alphabet. “A” has within it “I”, “U”, “R”, “Ri”, “E”, “Ai”, “O”, “Au”, “Am”, “Aha”. There are seven syllables that are within “A”. The total is “A”.

‘The example is when we hear the sound of a market from a kilometer, it is just one “A”, hum. As we go nearer and nearer, within that sound, other sounds begin to be heard. And when you go in the market, you are able to hear many sounds that were making that one total sound.

‘ “A” is a sound of all the possible sounds. All the basic possible sounds have been summed up in terms of eight sounds. The eight sounds come up from one silent sound, Para. Just now, Dr Hagelin counted Para and Apara and all those. Para is the transcendental field of consciousness, one holistic Totality, the Unified Field. This Unified Field and the word “quantum” were explained by Dr Hagelin so beautifully, so clearly.

‘Now this quantum thing, in the field of consciousness, is a frictionless flow. One thing is that you move forward; the other thing is that you move backward. But in this field of the transcendent, it is not a move in any one direction or two directions or one opposite direction—no. It is all directions at a time. It is a frictionless flow. You go this way and you go that way also, back and forth, back and forth.

‘The mind is the instrument for that. It is capable of settling down to itself. This settling down to itself will be at the source of thought. Whatever fluctuation is created by the mind on its own level spreads throughout creation. It is a frictionless flow. It is a slippery ground of total Natural Law, a frictionless flow, completely frictionless flow in all directions simultaneously.

‘Quite a lot will be possible in the field of this technology, in the relative field. But the totality of it is possible on the level of consciousness, whose technology is the physical brain physiology. The physical brain physiology, properly trained, could be that mechanics which the modern chips are trying to copy. The human brain physiology is that mechanics.

‘Just the discovery of Raja Raamji has indicated that physiology is the expression of consciousness. And consciousness is noted in terms of the fluctuations of the Vedic Sound. The specialty in the Vedic Sound is that it is the sound, and it is also the sounder, and it also the process of sounding. All the three are one—knower, knowing, and known—doer, doing, and done, all the three together. That is why, on its own, in its complete freedom, in its complete independence, it is the field of all possibilities. It is from there the expression comes, “I am the lord of all I survey.” That is going to be the human dignity on Earth, with the blessings of Guru Dev.

‘We are announcing a very, very effective programme where the achievements will be a matter of much shorter time. Centuries have gone and in every generation, the wise have been searching for it, searching for it, searching for it. But now, with the blessings of our Master and the spiritual Vedic Tradition of Masters, we are blessed. We are offering ourselves and all our achievements and all our understandings and all our knowledge and all our future programmes to the lotus feet of Shri Guru Dev. Jai Guru Dev.
