Opening Remarks

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. The world press has heard me saying for the last two, three weeks that the arrow has left the bow. My programme to create coherent world consciousness has started. The programme is so simple that, having started in one place, it is going to be started in all the places in every country very soon.

‘I invite my dear world press to report to me how it has echoed in different countries, how the events of every country are tending to be more and more coherent, more and more positive, more and more in favour of life, more and more in favour of affluence, more and more in favour of better health, better education, better administration, better everything.

‘It is role of the world press to inform me, because my programme is out in the world. It is from that level which is all-pervading—the self-referral level of consciousness. This self-referral level of Transcendental Consciousness is being enlivened by groups practising the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme. The effect of these groups is going to be coherence, positivity, lack of negativity in every phase of life on earth.

‘I have been repeating and I will repeat again and again that religious saying, “Thy Will be done on earth as in heaven.” It is going to be a reality of our life in our world family.

‘It is very good. The leaders of our Movement are extraordinary geniuses. They are embodiments of enlightenment, expressions of Total Knowledge. With such leadership rising in the world, a good fortune of mankind is rising in our world family.

‘We have been talking about the principles of Transcendental Meditation, the Advanced Techniques, and Yogic Flying. Now is the time to create the effect on a global scale—a big, big global effect. When I started the Movement of Transcendental Meditation, it was on the individual level, of relaxation, betterment, and better memory for students. All that was on the individual level. But now, enough individuals are creating that individual effect in their lives that we are out to create a collective influence. And the technology of creating coherence in national consciousness is the group practice of Yogic Flying.

‘This has given us such a beautiful, simple formula for every country to have integrated national consciousness so that the national consciousness will be very positive for everyone in the nation, and nothing wrong could come up to become a problem for the nation. That is going to be through a group of Yogic Flyers.

‘What we found was that when the children are studying in the schools, if they practice the TM-Sidhi for Yogic Flying for maybe fifteen, twenty minutes, half an hour a day, then the whole collective consciousness of the nation will always remain coherent. With that intense positivity in the collective consciousness of the nation, nothing would ever go wrong in any part of the nation. Everywhere there will be positivity, affluence, joy, happiness, bliss—everywhere, satisfaction, no conflicts, no disturbance, nothing negative.

‘This is coming to be the new fortune of mankind in our world family. That is the message of yesterday; that is the message of today. Dr Morris, thank the press that they are here at this moment. Many press people may not have even been born when the Movement was started. But now, they may be strong world reporters, writers, 30 years, 40 years of age. This is the time that they have an opportunity to write of the beautiful destiny for all future generations. The world press now will have more and more opportunity to report more and more positive events, more and more positive trends in every field.

‘If there are any questions, we can answer them, but the answer to all the questions has been put forward by the wise leadership of our Movement in the world. They have started to create groups in every country. As the groups come up, which may take a few months—three, four months—the whole destiny of mankind will have a bright sunshine due to their performance. Automatically, there will be change. The thinking will change, and the actions will change, completely. That is what we have said in the past months when welcoming Sat Yuga, the time of all good, the time of all affluence, the time of all evolutionary performances. The result of that is an evolutionary sense of life, evolutionary trend of life. It is a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful destiny of mankind open through our programmes of Vedic Education, Vedic Health Care, Vedic Defence, Vedic Administration, Vedic everything.

‘If there are any questions—there may not be any questions now, but if there are, it will be our joy to dispel them.’

Question: Administration of the Universe by One or Many Gods

Dr Morris: ‘Yes, Maharishi. There are many questions, but there is one in particular that I would like to mention first. During the recent conference that was held in Geneva celebrating the dawn of the new fortune of all mankind, Dr Benjamin Feldman, the Minister of Finance and Planning of the Global Country of World Peace, presented his plan to eradicate poverty. He ended his statement to the press with the words, “The Light of God is my guiding light. Glory to God. Glory to God. And glory to God.” Maharishi then, and also today, has said that due to the Vedic programmes that he is offering, the present generation is going to realize and live the truth of, “Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” So the question is: Maharishi, what is the role of God in the perfect administration of the societies in the world? And is there one God, or, as we sometimes hear, are there many gods?’ 

Maharishi: ‘If there are many gods, they must be working together as one God in order to keep all ends of the vast, expanding universe functioning in good coordination with each other. So we would not mind if there are many gods; we would not mind if there is one God. Whether many gods or one God, there definitely is the infinite diversity of the ever-expanding universe.

‘Look to these words: “infinite diversity of the ever-expanding universe”. That is being administered by some one or many functioning in good faith with each other. It does not matter whether one or many. If someone believes there is one, he says, “You are right; He can be one.” Or if there are many, many will also be functioning as one unified. It is not that one says, “Yes, I will do this,” and the others say, “No, I cannot do this.” It is not a matter of voting. It is a matter of acting in union with each other.

‘One God or many gods, it does not matter. Whether one or many, it does not matter. Whatever we like, we can choose. There must be many, many gods to take care of many, many galaxies and many, many individuals, yes? There are so many species. Tigers are there, monkeys are there, elephants are there, men are there. And men are living in North Pole and South Pole and here and there and there and there. So there must be many, many representations or representatives of God, if there is one God, or no harm saying all gods. But all gods are in a perfect unified state.

‘That means Unity Consciousness is ruling the universe. That is how the universe, with all these varieties and differences, is being run all the time in perfect order—all the time in perfect order. One God is also right; many gods is also right.’  

Question: Harmonious Coexistence of Invincible Nations

Dr Morris: ‘Very beautiful, Maharishi. That is a very revealing answer about the reality. There is one question also from the press about invincibility. Maharishi has been saying in many of the press conferences that every nation in the world has to be invincible and is going to be invincible. When all nations are invincible, this will be the fulfilment of the spirit of globalization that is rising in the world.

‘The question is: If all the nations are powerful on that level of invincibility, what if they happen to want the same thing? They may have the same aspiration for something that one of them can have and one of them cannot have. How will these very powerful nations be able to coexist in a world family, if they are all very powerful and want things that are not in harmony with each other’s desires?’ 

Maharishi: ‘There is one thing that puts all the different countries on one level. And what is that, even today? The word for it is “sovereignty”. This country is a sovereign country, this country a sovereign country, this country a sovereign country, this country a sovereign country. Each country has its own way within itself. So, each country being sovereign, all the countries are on one level.

‘But sovereignty today is a laughingstock. Sovereignty has no meaning today. Absolutely, sovereignty is a fraudulent word. But it is that word which seems to put all the countries on par with each other. “I am a sovereign nation; I am a sovereign nation; I am a sovereign nation.” All the sovereign people sit at a round table conference; no one is dominating the other.

‘This was the structure of the United Nations. All the nations are equal at one table, one round table, no one dominating the other. Whether a small country or a big country, it does not matter. They may be small or big, but each one is sovereign. They think they are sovereign countries. Even a small country sits with a big country because he is also sovereign.

‘So there is one level where differences do not exist—the level of sovereignty. But because sovereignty has become a laughingstock, I am using the word “invincibility”. Each country has to be invincible, really invincible, so he cannot be influenced by others. He is invincible.

‘We are starting to use the word “invincibility”. And we want to bring every nation to that laudable status of invincibility. Very strongly we hold that unless every country is invincible, world peace will always remain a question mark. The word “sovereignty” is not strong enough to create world peace on a permanent basis. We feel that all this imagination of sovereignty and all that is a laughingstock, absolutely a laughingstock.

‘The word “sovereignty” has been used loosely. Countries have lost their sovereign status. Countries are bought by money. A country with money, which has a better economy, just pounces on others and dictates the terms. They give some money, but dictate the terms to the recipient. Where is the sovereignty of that country?

‘Sovereignty by name, as it exists, is not capable—mind the words that I am speaking—it is not capable of holding the dignity of a unified United Nations. The efforts are all right; efforts are appreciated. But those efforts have failed repeatedly over the centuries in the past. Look to the United Nations—it is a laughingstock today in the family of intelligentsia of the world. When the United Nations created its military, the whole thing of the United Nations became a humbug. There is no meaning in the word “United Nations”, or in the actions of the United Nations, or in the policies of the United Nations.

‘As long as every country does not rise in his own right to the level of invincibility, world peace will always be a question mark. For world peace to be real without questions, every country has to become invincible. “Every country has to become invincible” means every country has to be established on a level of integrity, integrated national consciousness. Integrated national consciousness will be there when the human awareness is open to deep silence, which is Transcendental Consciousness, at the basis of all activity.

‘There are groups we have now created with a few thousand people or a few hundred people, depending upon how big or small the country is. Those groups, practising Transcendental Meditation, will create an atmosphere of coherence in the national consciousness. That coherent national consciousness will be invincible. We give the example of the Meissner Effect: the coherence is so intense that nothing can penetrate and disturb its integrity.

‘We are going to give—we are going to actually give—invincibility through this programme of ours to unfold, or bring to our conscious awareness, the hidden silence within the activity, or within the dynamism, of every national consciousness. We are going to do that through this programme. All these fifty years we take to be a preparatory period. But now, it is so simple. Just a few thousand people doing this thing for half an hour morning and evening—something like that—and the world consciousness will be integrated.

‘Once the world consciousness is integrated, no weakness or problematic value could enter into the country. So the country is invincible. On this level, every country will share the invincibility of every other country. It will never be shadowed by any weakness from anywhere. That will be integrated world consciousness on the basis of every country rising to the dignity of invincibility.’

Dr David Lynch Is Introduced

Dr Morris: ‘Yes, Maharishi, that is very beautiful. Thank you. Maharishi, we have another wonderful good news that at our press conference today we also have Dr David Lynch. Dr David Lynch has just arrived here at MERU, the World Capital of the Global Country of World Peace. We warmly welcome you, Dr Lynch. It is a great joy to have you with us’ 

Dr Lynch: ‘Jai Guru Dev, Maharishi.’

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev.’

Dr Lynch: ‘Jai Guru Dev.’

Maharishi: ‘Let me tell the world press that Dr David Lynch is a hero of our time. He is a new sunshine in the diminishing darkness of the night. He is a bright sunshine for the new world to come and remain all the time, permanently, in the light of enlightenment. Dr Lynch is the hero of our time. Let us greet him in this Capital of World Peace in Holland. Holland is rising to be an invincible nation. Dr Lynch’s arrival is a good omen for the world. He is arriving on the land of wholeness, Holland.’

Dr Lynch: ‘Maharishi, thank you.’

Maharishi: ‘He will appear to the intelligentsia of Holland, and we will make them create a new destiny for all of the Dutch characteristic qualities. The Dutch characteristic qualities are simplicity, honesty, sincerity, goodwill to others, and support to all mankind. This is the Dutch nature. And this, Dr Lynch is going to whisper to them. The leaders here have heard about Dr Lynch’s coming and are organizing his conferences for the scientists and artists of this land of wholeness, Holland. It is very good.

‘I have heard Raja Willem, Raja of Holland, has come back from India. He came back only today and is greeting Dr Lynch.

‘Our Prime Minister, introduce Dr Lynch properly. He has created a big stir in the psychology of the whole of the United States. In the past one, two months, he quickly traveled, inviting the youth of USA, and opened a new gate of world leadership for them by rising to coherence and creating this in world consciousness. Introduce him to the people, to the world press today. It is very good, Dr Lynch, that you are here.’

Dr Lynch: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. Jai Guru Dev.’

Maharishi: ‘It is so good; it is so good.’

[Dr Morris speaks.]

Dr Lynch: ‘Jai Guru Dev. I love Maharishi. And I love listening to Maharishi talk. And I love to read what Maharishi has written. Mostly, I like listening to Maharishi talk. I am in a special position, being known. All I do is tell people what I have learned from Maharishi: that there is an ocean of pure consciousness within every human being, and that Maharishi’s very beautiful, easy to do, yet supremely profound technique will allow any human being to dive within and experience that ocean of pure consciousness.

‘When people hear, as Maharishi said, that they have a treasury in their basement, many of them get very, very happy about this and sense the truth of it. One girl I met after the talk at New York University said she had been waiting her whole life to hear this. People are in trouble out there, and they do not hear the good news. This is the best news they can hear. And many of them have, as I said before, the ears to hear.

‘So it is very, very beautiful. I also thank Maharishi for this knowledge that transforms individual life and also transforms the life of the world to real peace, the absence of negativity. These Universities of Peace that we are talking about are both Consciousness-Based Education and peace-creating groups in one place. I thought seven billion was a big number, and about two weeks later I heard Maharishi asking for a trillion—a trillion dollars.’

Dr Morris: ‘Ten trillion.’

Dr Lynch: ‘Ten trillion now! It is beautiful, and it is still a drop in the bucket—ten trillion.

‘So I think, because of Maharishi’s fifty years in the world, working night and day, it is much softer in the environment, in the atmosphere now, than it was before. It is much softer now, and many more people are leaning forward and finding an inner truth. It rings a bell, this thing, in people. And they are listening. I feel that, as Maharishi said, the darkness is diminishing. So it is very beautiful.

‘I also want to thank Bobby Roth, because he organized this tour. This tour has turned out to be pretty special, bringing this knowledge to so many students. It was very important. I think Maharishi’s knowledge and the experience that the knowledge gives will spread and spread and spread.

‘The team was so filled with bliss and filled with knowledge. It was absolutely beautiful traveling with them. Everybody enjoyed themselves and will have fond memories of these tours. The TM meditators in Italy are so fantastic.

‘Everywhere, Maharishi, you have brought so much bliss. As Maharishi teaches, mankind was not made to suffer. Bliss is our nature. Jai Guru Dev.’

Question: Vedic Education and Shiksha—Unfoldment

Dr Morris: ‘Maharishi has been speaking in past press conferences about Shiksha as education, and that Shiksha means “unfoldment”. It is an interesting point that the word “education” in English actually does mean something like that. It is from the Latin “to draw out”—to draw out all that is hidden. What is the difference between the Vedic Education of Shiksha, of “unfoldment”, and what has gone under the name of education in all these past centuries from the Western countries and is spreading around the world? What is Shiksha—Vedic Education—and what does it unfold, actually?’ 

Maharishi: ‘In one word, we can say the totality of knowledge is unfolded in the fragmented field of knowledge. In one word, totality of knowledge.

‘Now we can define what is Totality, the totality of all the ingredients of knowledge. What is knowledge? The knowledge of silence, knowledge of dynamism—total silence, total dynamism—Totality unfolded. Partial is already unfolded. People are living relative life; they are already living this. What they are missing is the unmanifest field of life, the silent field of life.

‘It is the silence, the unfoldment of silence. Otherwise, ordinarily only the relative values are unfolded. But in Vedic terms, the Totality is unfolded. It is the Unity Consciousness unfolded in the midst of the waking, dreaming, sleeping, in Transcendental Consciousness.

‘In all the relative states of consciousness, some absolute value of consciousness is unfolded. That is Vedic, and this is the relative. In the relative also, there is a lot of unfoldment. But with the unfoldment of Totality, Totality, Totality, then we have done it, then we have done it. And soon, it is going to be wholeness of life will come as a living reality. It is very good.’
