'Now I welcome the influence of the world press to bring the message of—Total Knowledge—to every individual in our world and invincibility to every nation in our world. Whatever life has been so far, it has been endeavouring to be better and better. Now should be the time to step onto the plateau of the fulfilment of all the endeavors of the wise throughout the ages.'—Maharishi

2 February 2005 Press Conference Highlights

Opening Remarks

Maharishi: Jai Guru Dev. I was listening carefully to every word that Dr John Hagelin was speaking—such beautiful exhortations of the eternal reality. It is very pleasing to see.

‘Now this week, fourteen Rajas will be crowned. Dr Hagelin, you could inform the press about the crowning ceremonies for the fourteen Rajas of the Global Country of World Peace that His Majesty Raja Raam will be performing to multiply himself to be placed on earth. Through this process of training, the administrators will have the Constitution of the Universe in their administration policies.

‘The Constitution of the Universe is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent. This omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent intelligence and creative intelligence can be harnessed by human awareness. These Rajas will be the administrators of the Constitution of the Universe, which is available in the Self of everyone, and is the total reality in the field of knowledge and in the field of action. This will create a perfect man; it will create a perfect man.

‘This is our effort, and we are inviting the people now to become the custodians of this administration through Natural Law in their own countries, in their own languages, in their own families.

‘Because we have been teaching for fifty years, and we have been conversing with the intelligentsia of the world in the global press, now is the time to present to the world efficiently trained experts in order to satisfy the millions of people in their countries.

‘One very simple thing about this is that Natural Law is at the source of the evolution of everything and everyone. The administration of life from the basis of total Natural Law, which is the transcendental reality of everyone’s own Self, is now going to be in the custody of the real leaders of the world. They will be able to actualize total Natural Law in their awareness in order to put everyone’s knowledge and action in daily life—every aspect of the daily life of everyone—singly and collectively, nationally and socially in full accord with Natural Law.

‘This is the time to ring the bell of eureka for the good fortune of everyone. Today I will be very happy to answer questions on this new role of administrators of the world, functioning from their own unified state of consciousness—unified state of consciousness. The world is going to have those administrators who will silently be functioning from the level of their own total Natural Law.

‘This will support any administration, any government, because man-made constitutions are in need of support from a permanent field of administration. The administration of the galactic universe is a long-lasting feature of authority in the sense that everyone and everything—singly and collectively—can be supported by total Natural Law. These Rajas, these administrators of the Global Country of World Peace, which His Majesty Raja Raam is now creating in the world, will be the silent rulers of the world. They will have their real parental role so effectively in the life of the people and in the life of the nation, that every nation will have invincibility, will have real security—no fears. That will also be the life of the individual.

‘This is a new chapter that is going to turn around the destiny of mankind from all kinds of human errors and human weaknesses to divine excellence in the light of God, in the light of total Natural Law, by the Constitution of the Universe which is centred in one’s own self-referral consciousness in entirety.

‘We are using well the knowledge that we got from the tradition of Vedic Masters, from Guru Dev. Supreme. We are very happy to ring the bell of eureka for the world press, for every government, and for every institution, whether it is educational or health or agricultural. All these different divisions of human endeavour will be raised to a real, good, satisfactory level of idealism.

‘It is such a joy—the training of the Rajas. All the people who want to be something in the front line of leadership of the world are invited to train themselves in that art of administration which is the art and science of administration of the royalty and the divinity both together. Royal and divine: both words are significant in one word, “invincibility”. Enlightenment for the individual and invincibility for every nation: this is our offer, and we want to train the people.

‘Training will start from this full moon; we do not want to delay. It is a very great thing, a new feature of our movement, to really train the leaders who, in their own awareness, carry the intelligence and energy and creativity of total Natural Law, which is enormous and unbounded and invincible and eternal and all-time true. It is beautiful.

‘Advise them to have a role. Those who want to be leaders of society in any country, in any language, whether they are religious or non-religious, political people or economic people, or whatever they are from their own background, will be led on to the peak of total Natural Law, the ability to do anything and everything. This is human potential—Unity Consciousness.

‘Let all join hands who have the aspiration to do it. They may not understand, but during the course of training, everything will become clear to them. I invite them—large numbers—to be trained. These days, we are in a position to have instant communication by simple press-button operations. Making use of this instant communication available day and night, we are declaring this training course for the Rajas—the administrators.

‘The administrators will study—as far as intellectual study is concerned—the Constitution of the Universe. They will study those techniques whereby everything in the universe is raised to higher and higher evolution all the time, collectively and individually.

‘It is a very great joy to invite the people who have that much intelligence to lead the world in their own communities. Every country, speaking its own language, will be led on to realize the source of all languages, the basis of all creativity. From that, they will be able to satisfy all their people from that level of eternal silence which is everywhere. The whole Constitution of the Universe is administering both levels of creation, the holistic level and the individual particle level. They are administered with the silent and holistic value of the individual. They are administered through the Constitution of the Universe.

‘It is a great opportunity for every individual who has the aspiration to do something in life. I am inviting them all to train them to be capable of doing everything in life. We are in the scientific age: everything will be absolutely reliable, systematic, and always science and technology both together.

‘Within a few months, within a few days, doesn’t matter, invite those who want to be real, competent rulers, whose rule will prevent problems, to this training of Rajas. It will be prevention-oriented administration. That prevention-oriented administration is an eternal administration of the infinite variety of the galactic universe.

‘It is a great thing in our hand. Now, come and share and bless the world in your own communities. Dr Hagelin, invite them and ask them if they have any questions.’

Question: How Rajas Will Improve the World

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi, for this extraordinary offer and announcement to the world of Raja training to become ideal administrators of a new civilization on earth. Maharishi announced the crowning ceremony for the first training course of ideal administrators, or Rajas, of the Global Country of World Peace. With the very successful completion of this first Raja training course, Maharishi is throwing open the doors to provide training in ideal administration to all the intelligentsia of the world, all the wise well-wishers of mankind, who would like to gain perfection in their individual life, prevent problems, and bring an ideal quality of life for society as a whole. That Raja training course will begin on February 23rd.

‘Maharishi, there is great interest in this remarkable offer, and a desire to understand what it means to be a Raja. Here is a question on that subject from the press: Maharishi has stated that he is training new administrators—Rajas—of the Global Country of World Peace who, he said, will govern the world from the inner level of silence. Maharishi, there is so much wrong in the world and so much that urgently needs to be done to fix it. How will the leaders of your movement improve the world by being silent? How will they solve the very real problems of poverty, sickness, and suffering that plague mankind by basically doing nothing?’

Maharishi:
In the same way as a gardener takes care of the health of so many leaves, so many branches, so many flowers, so many fruits. And what does he do? He quietly puts a few drops of water at the root. He has some action, but the action is concentrated at the source of all the diversity. The diversity of the tree is nourished—every aspect.

‘The question is like saying, “If you do not touch the leaf and do not nourish the branches, if you do not nourish the flowers and fruits, how on earth are you going to make flowers healthy, and leaves healthy, and branches strong and healthy, and fruits sweet, and all that?” By attending to the root—by attending to the cause. You handle the cause, and thereby you handle the effect. Any effect has its basis in the cause. The whole spread of the tree has its basis in the silent level of the root.

‘Like that, any and every activity in creation is embedded in silence. One’s own personality is embedded in the Unified Field—self-referral consciousness. If I could bring self-referral consciousness to my conscious mind, then my conscious mind will nourish all aspects of the sprouting of the source and the spreading of the variety of the tree.

‘It is very easy to handle the whole thing from the source. That is very easy. It is just like, if you want to do anything—you want to do this, you want to do that also, you want to do something in education, something in health, something in agriculture, something in economy, something here, there—then you just handle the prime minister. Because in the prime minister, there is that vitality. What he says is the law of the country. Where the prime minister is, or the voice of the assembly, there is one person, there is one source, from where all the diversity can be nourished and can be made strong and supported and valuable—everything. Just by attending to the one—it is easier to attend to a particle, and then, infinity is made of particles. You handle a particle, and in that you are handling infinity.

‘This is Vedic Science; this is Vedic wisdom. You can handle a drop, and in handling the drop, you can handle all aspects of the unbounded ocean. It is a technique; it is a technique, and this is what we call Knowledge, Total Knowledge, total Natural Law, knowledge of total Natural Law.

‘Knowledge of total Natural Law—now listen to this: it is so beautiful to say and it is so beautiful to have it done, knowledge of total Natural Law is much easier to gain and enjoy than wandering in different fields of knowledge. You become the owner of the base, and then you have entry into all aspects of the base.

‘It is like when you buy a market, then you own every shop in it. Just like that the awareness of a ruler has to be on a level of all knowledge. The level of all knowledge is the field of all action. The field of all action is the field of satisfaction. It is a field of invincibility. It is a field to be master of creation, master of Natural Law—mastery of Natural Law.

‘It is a matter of knowledge, it is a matter of knowledge. Someone knows, and then he does it. Someone who does not know has to know it in order to do it. The tradition of knowledge, very rightly, is dedicated to the beginning years of one’s life—childhood, youth. The tradition is: gain the knowledge, gain the knowledge.

‘Now we find that the knowledge in this kind of university set-up is stored in the big libraries. If the university is proud, it is proud of having a big library. And all the writers of the books in the library are those people who have not even been successful in their own lives.

‘University education, as it was a thousand or two thousand years ago—whenever it started—is a flop. It is completely a flop today—completely a flop today. It is incapable of preventing problems; it is incapable of curing problems; it is incapable of everything. It is a waste of life, period.

‘The training of the Rajas is to train the awareness, the mind, intellect and ego of those who want to be the leaders of society, who want to guide the people, who want to be the torch bearers on the path of salvation. Those we are inviting today; those we are inviting today.

‘We are open. This is the same invitation that I threw to the people of the world fifty years ago. But it has taken that much time because the people said, “Oh, we are practical people; how can we close the eyes for twenty minutes? Who will do it?” But it is the ignorance that keeps the knowledge out of reach. It is the willingness that immediately opens a wide gate to Total Knowledge.

‘This is what we are doing today. We have been teaching individuals for so many years, and now we say, “Now come and be the teachers of the whole population. Now you do not even have to teach. You have to have a group—just a small group. That small group will radiate harmony and coherence and all positivity, so that, in that intense positivity, intense strength, and harmony, no wrong will sprout in any area.”

‘That is the world we want to create. These days, we have communication systems that reach everywhere, and we are adopting that. We are inviting the world press for their own sake. Either take it, or watch how people do when they are trained.

‘It should be those people who aspire for others also, but in this art of training the Rajas, it is the safety of the Raja’s consciousness first. This will not be administration by passing a law, facing the opposition, and discussion and all that—no. Each Raja will enjoy his own bliss eternal inside. Enjoying bliss inside, he will radiate bliss outside completely. Rajas are being trained to do everything without doing. This is the coronation ceremony, but they are crowned to do everything from their own Self.

‘It is not possible for anyone to satisfy the millions of people who have billions of desires. The billions of desires of millions of people can only be satisfied by the ruler if the ruler is sitting at the source of all knowledge, at the basis of all creativity, at the basis of all dynamism. The basis of all dynamism is silence eternal. So being silent eternal in his own life gives him the power to do everything from within himself. This is the training of the Raja.

‘Those who have an aspiration for themselves to be the master of creation, to be the master of Natural Law, to be the custodian of the Constitution of the Universe, to have bliss all the time in themselves are those who will go through the Raja training for themselves, for their dependents, for their friends and all that. There is no end to the joy on the individual level and authority on the collective level when the Rajas are trained. It is a different thing; it is a different thing.

‘Rajas are being entertained from the field of their desire—a field and a desire that is competent. This is not for the poor people, because the poor people have to have their own—for the poor people it is learning Transcendental Meditation and all that. It is for those who want to do something more, and the Raja’s training does something more to the Raja himself. It gives him authority and gives him capability sunk in deep silence, so that silently he can move mountains—silently he can.

‘This is Raja’s training. This is Raja’s training. It is the dream of all ages; it is a dream of the wise of all ages. This is going to be the life of a Raja. This is why the training is given to those who are not poor. A poor man cannot think himself—he cannot handle his own life. But those people who can be self-sufficient, who can desire for society, who can desire for the world, who can desire for the nation are invited to be in the training of Rajas.

‘This first training course was announced to be one or two months, but then it continued, and it continued and continued and continued. It has been about a year now. Now I am satisfied that the Rajas are properly trained. Even though it was announced for a month or two—something like that—but I was not satisfied. So I did not leave them; I did not leave them as raw fruits. I wanted them to be ripe and sweet, full of juice. So the training took that long time. And now, I am an experienced trainer of the Rajas. Now it will not take that much time.

‘It is a great ripening of the practical knowledge to administer society from that level of deep silence within oneself, where there is no action. That is the level from where the total diversity of the universe is being governed day and night and all the time eternally.

‘That supreme knowledge is beyond imagination; no one can imagine. The Rajas have been heard talking to each other saying, “We never thought it would be so complete, it would be so good, and so good.” It is all beyond imagination: the miracle it does to the individual himself, and then the capability of radiating that problem-free administration to all others. This is going to be the gift of God. In our humbleness, we say, “The gift of God, the light of God, the gift of Guru Dev, the tradition of Masters”.

‘So come and enjoy. Make hay when the sun shines now. Invite them for questions and answers. Invite the competent people, all these billionaires, who can take recourse to this training and be the lighthouse for their communities in their own countries.

‘Great. From the coming full moon, after the coronation of these Rajas of the first training course, it will be our joy to have the second Raja training course
.’

Question: Total Knowledge in Consciousness

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. This really is an extraordinary and exciting offer, knowledge truly beyond one’s imagination, training truly beyond one’s imagination, a precious opportunity for all those who aspire for bliss all the time, and aspire also to transform the quality of life in their surroundings, prevent problems, and promote peace everywhere.

‘There is a question, Maharishi, on the nature of the Raja training. Last week, Maharishi was describing that a student will never gain Total Knowledge through the drama of modern education—through lectures, memorization, examinations, and grades. Maharishi said that the only way to gain Total Knowledge is by experiencing it in one’s own inner consciousness—the Unified Field. But what about gaining the parts of knowledge? Are lectures and books still required to gain specific knowledge of administration, such as health, education, defence, the economy? Or are all these details available to the student in the silence of his consciousness?’

Maharishi: Exactly—the last phrase of your question. All these details are available in the consciousness of the expert. He thinks, and the thought is carried on to the target of thinking and produces the effect. Reading is not necessary.

‘We have an example in the Vedic Literature: small, small boys—small, small boys, of five, ten years, twenty years of age—were creating what we would say was impossible. They were creating such miracles. The small boys, Lav and Kush, put the army flat. When their Guruji heard that, “Oh, what have you done to them?” They said, “No, Guruji, we have not killed them; we have only made them insensible, just drowsy.” That much command was with the boys because the level of their awareness was a field of all possibilities.

‘That is the awareness that is running the whole universe. Running the whole universe means making everything and everyone evolutionary all the time. And how? By nature, nature—we say, nature, nature, nature, nature.

‘This natural impulse from point to infinity is the nature of life. We call it evolution, but it is the nature of life—from point to infinity, from point to infinity. It is just a matter of knowing it. And knowing it properly means being it—knowing by Being, knowing by Being.

‘For example, you describe an apple: it is like this, it smells like this, it touches like this, and it is so sweet and this and this. But if the apple was to describe its own value, then see what the difference will be—whether someone else describes the reality, or the reality itself comes out to describe. This is Being—this is knowing by Being.

‘Knowing by Being gives that authenticity of control. Knowing by Being, but everything at will, everything at will. The Vedic script is very, very clear about it, with some very simple, simple expressions. “Yatinam Brahma Bhavati Sarati." Just one little phrase: “Yatinam Brahma Bhavati Sarati
—four words, four—”Yatinam Brahma Bhavati Sarati.” One who is completely retired from the field of dynamism, from the field of action, is the Yati. Brahma Bhavati Sarati: the Creator becomes his charioteer. How does the Creator becomes the charioteer? It is the Creator who created creation from what He remembered about the past creation—from the memory.

‘To make the memory really thrive again is the act of the Creator. Someone who is transcendental is on that level of the Creator, from where he can create by thought. That is the awareness of the Raja, the awareness of the administrator. That is Vedic Administration—competence.

‘It is the competence that rules. There is no mistake. There is no punishment in this administration. There is no punishment in this administration because no one does wrong. By nature one does only the right thing, right thing. There is a whole philosophy of perfection, and we are proud of having this from our Master, from our Guru Dev, from our tradition of Vedic Knowledge.

‘That is what I said: the world needs a strong Vedic community. The world needs a strong Vedic India. And a strong Vedic India will have a Vedic world which means a world in terms of Total Knowledge, in terms of the capability of doing everything. That means everyone and everything will be on a level of satisfaction. There will be no disappointments; there will be no failures; there will be no wrongs anywhere in one’s surroundings.

‘That kind of most ideal—today we say “ideal” because it is rare, but it is actually the normal situation of life—is normal life. The other is not yet life.

‘That is India, “Aham Brahmasmi", I am Totality. This is the voice of the hollowness [laughter], the voice of the hollowness of the seed, the hollowness of the banyan seed. He says, “I am the whole enormous tree.” This thought is the sprouting of the whole tree, the growth of the whole tree, the expansion of the whole tree, and all those benefits that come from the tree—shade and everything, juice, and all things.

Beautiful human existence is before us. We are going to have the coronation of the first group of trained Rajas, and we will start the second group for training. I am completely open. Come with whatever desire you come, and you will come to your Self, and you will come to your God, and you will come to your universe. You will come to your Self, that is all.

‘It is a big, open challenge of great confidence for everyone to be invincible on his own single individual level and on the level of the collective value of his individuality, which is cosmic. It is beautiful, it is beautiful. It is a delightful topic, such a joy to talk about.’

Question: How Governments Can Utilize the Global Country’s Services

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. It is such an extraordinary offer and opportunity for everyone.

‘This is a question on administration by the Global Country of World Peace. Maharishi said that lack of knowledge pervades the field of administration, and this lack is at the basis of the widespread failure of government. In a world of deep darkness and ignorance, how will the Global Country facilitate the evolution of enlightened citizens on the planet? And if a government is interested in contracting the services of the Global Country, what should it do?’

Maharishi: Send some people for training, and the country will have expert administrators. That is all. Send some people, whether they are scientists, or they are artists, or they are musicians, or they are illiterates of the country. Send the illiterates to me, and they will be the best administrators in the world.

‘Present education, whatever it is, is not satisfying, but during this administrator training everyone will get to the source of all knowledge within himself. The technique of arriving at one’s own inner Self is a simple, simple technique—as simple as the sinking of a stone in water. You put it on the water and see that it sinks. It sinks of its own weight.

‘The governments do not have to search for the wisest people in their country to send for training. They can send anyone, and have some different, different people, if they like. They can send a few people from the farming community, from the lawyers’ community, from the doctors’ community, from the singers’ community, from the teachers’ community, from anywhere. A few people in the country will hold the reins of administration in the country—absolutely the administration of the country. Any government can train their people.

Question: Value of Vedic Sounds

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you, Maharishi. This question arises from a fascination with one of the administrative techniques of the Global Country of World Peace: the technique of Yagya and Graha-shanti. Maharishi, early in the year people traditionally make resolutions to eat healthier, exercise more, meditate more regularly. The success of such resolutions depends solely upon an individual’s will power. But Maharishi has said that there are recitations of special Vedic sounds that can be used to fulfil an individual’s or even a nation’s resolutions for more wealth, better health, even peace on earth. Would Maharishi explain how these Vedic sounds, which Maharishi said “create an abstract influence of coherence in the environment”, can be used to fulfil a specific individual or national resolution?’

Maharishi: I welcome this question and admire the one who has raised the question, because the answer leads me to unfold that level of knowledge which connects the individual with the cosmic aspect of the individual.

‘The individual is like a point, and the cosmos like infinity—the individual like a drop, and the cosmos like the ocean. Where is the connection of the point with the ocean? Listen carefully—where is the connecting point between the individual and the ocean? It is in the physiology of everyone, that part of the physiology which pulsates in order to produce a syllable “A”.

‘ “A” is the syllable which expresses Atma—A-tma. So “A” is the syllable expressing Atma. Now this is one thing. The second thing is: “A” is the first syllable of the Veda. Veda is total Natural Law. Veda, the total Veda—whatever is the spread of Veda—has its starting point in “A”. “Agnimile Purohitam” is the beginning of the Veda—“A”. So “A” is the first syllable of the Veda. That means “A” is the fountain-head of the flow of Veda.

‘ “A” is for Atma, “A” is the sound expressing Atma, and “A” is the sound expressing Total Knowledge. Total Knowledge is on two levels in “A”: one is the sound of “A”, which is the flow, and the other is inside the flow, which is eternal silence, which is Atma. Atma is expressed by a flow, but it is non-expressed in non-flow, in the silent value. So it is the “A” that is the meeting point of the individual and cosmic.

‘Now in the physiology, “A” has a place. We know from the Vedic Literature how “A” comes to be. “A” comes to be by the pulsation of that part of the throat—of the physiology. The throat is a hollow something—hollow. That hollow is just like the hollowness of the seed. But the hollowness pulsates. And when the hollowness pulsates, then it is the pulsation of the unmanifest. It is the pulsation of the unmanifest.

‘So when the unmanifest pulsates, it is the Totality that pulsates—infinity, unboundedness that pulsates. That means there is a time—we can now, in terms of time, just imagine it—when infinity is silent, and now there is a time when infinity pulsates. There is a time when the throat is all silent, and there is a time when the throat pulsates to produce “A”. So this pulsation of the silence, the pulsation of the silence producing the sound “A”, is a connection between individuality and cosmic reality.

‘The Constitution of the Universe—Natural Law, total Natural Law—is lively on that level where the physiology of the throat, the emptiness of the throat, pulsates in the syllable “A”. Here is the meeting point of the Cosmic Constitution of the Universe in order to create the individual laws of nature which will control the individual activity.

‘In the throat, there is that hollowness which is full of—what? Full of memory. And full of memory is that one syllable “A”. When we go into “A”, then “A”, “I”, “U”—all these vowels and consonants of the Vedic Literature—all emerge from this one-syllable Constitution of the Universe, which is “A”. There on the hollowness of the throat, in an area of physiology, is the connecting switch for individual and the potential cosmic reality within the individual.

‘All the variety of the individual is concentrated, unified so to say, in that one little syllable “A”. And the reverberation of that empty hollowness of the throat is a connecting link between the enormous cosmic dynamism of the cosmos, of the universe, and the inner silence of the individual and the inner faintest impulse, the first “A”.

‘In the Vedic language, there is an expression about “A”: “Akaro Sarva Vak”. Three words, only three words:
Akaro Sarva Vak", meaning “A” is the total speech—that is all. “A” is the total speech. This, on the level of speech, is the sound “A”, but on the level of physiology, it is the throat, and in the hollowness of the throat.

‘Here is a level which connects the individual with his cosmic potential—individual desire and cosmic desire. What is cosmic desire? Cosmic desire is the pulsating universe, back and forth, back and forth, in and out, and in and out—both ways, in and out. In both ways, in and out are the whole story about the character of the Constitution of the Universe, which is fully, fully awake within the syllable “A”. And in the syllable “A”, there is “I” and there is “U”—the whole story is there.

‘It is a very beautiful field of knowledge. This is the area of knowledge—the intellectual level and the practical level—which is the training of the Rajas. The training of the Rajas is to unfold in their awareness that level of reality which is the Cosmic Constitution. The Cosmic Constitution, the total field of knowledge and action, is Veda, and that is abstractly in Atma and concretely in the pulsating throat.
‘All these consonants and vowels of the Vedic language constitute the language of the Constitution of the Universe. The whole Constitution of the Universe is there within the physiology and within the specific fluctuations of the physiology—the throat, the palate, the lips, the tongue. Different, different areas are there which are responsible for the vowels and consonants of Total Knowledge. This is a natural thing.

‘This is a natural thing; this is not a matter of learning of “A”. The boy is born with “A”. In the relationship of the child and the mother, the child says, “A”, and the mother says, “A”. These are the surface levels of explanation—just amusements. But the reality is that the individual has the switchboard within his physiology. That is like the press-button operation of a computer—only that thing will reverberate. You press the button, and that thing will reverberate.

‘How is that thing related to this other thing? In a sequential manner. The word “sequential” is very important—sequential from “A” to “I” to “U” to “Ri” to “E”, “Ai”, “O”, “Au”, “Am”, “Ah”. This whole alphabet—the sequential evolution of it and all the vowels and consonants in sequence—is just the sequence of the emptiness of the seed. There is emptiness within the seed, and then the seed becoming lively and pulsating. Then the sprouting becomes, and the sprouting becomes bigger and bigger, and becomes the plant and tree—the huge, big tree with an infinite variety of leaves and branches and all that. This is exactly like a tree and its relation with the unmanifest seed.

‘This is the area of knowledge of the training of the Rajas. It is not telling the story of this king or that king or this or this—no. It is the story of the will of God. It is the story of the will of God—how Totality is embedded in a point. This is the field of creation, realistic and practical and absolutely simple, because that is the nature of the individual life and cosmic life, the meeting point of individuality and cosmic reality, the meeting point of individual law, which means this desire and this action, and the cosmic law, which works silently, silently.

‘This is the training level of the Rajas. It is unfolding the supremely most refined, unmanifest values of reality, the unmanifest field of knowledge in the unmanifest field of physiology. All these different fields of knowledge—chemistry, physics, different religions, or whatever we may say—are all embedded on this level, where the Cosmic Constitution meets with the individual performance—that area of the throat, that area of the palate, that area from where all these letters come out.

‘The letters form in a systematic way. In a sequential manner, they form the words, and the words form the combination of words, and they form sentences, and the sentences form the paragraphs, and paragraphs form the chapters, and chapters form the whole book. Sequentially evolving, but the starting point of this evolution is on that level where the individuality and the cosmic reality are both on the junction point. They are both meeting, like a lamp at the door. That is the field of training of the Rajas. And there, their awareness is so competent; their awareness is so competent that it leaves nothing impossible. Nothing is impossible.

‘This is the Raja’s training. Raja’s training is not like the training of any other man. Rajas are not trained in the art of digging the soil and agriculture, or doing this or doing that particular thing—no. They are trained in the state of Being. From their own Being, they radiate Being, and radiating Being is enlivening the basis of all knowledge and all action.

‘This is Raja’s training. It is a very great opportunity for any man with any patriotism for the nation, or patriotism for his own family. If someone wants to be a father of the family or a friend of the community, or someone wants to be a mayor, or someone wants to be a governor, or someone wants to be the president of a country, or someone wants to be anything significant so that whatever he desires he will accomplish, here is the call for him to go through the Raja training.

Question: The Memories of the Universe

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. This is truly an extraordinary opportunity for the world—a message that must be taken by the global press all over the world.

‘There is a question on the deep principle of knowledge that you are bringing out on the subject of Smriti, or memory. Maharishi has said that the entire universe is the expression of the nothingness of the unmanifest Unified Field—the Constitution of the Universe—and that within this field of nothingness resides the memories, the Smritis, of the entire infinite, ever-expanding expressed universe. Does that mean that the Unified Field contains, within it its own universe of memories, the basis of everything that is, was, or ever will be in the world of forms and phenomena? And if so, what are the memories made of, and how were they created in the first place?’

Maharishi: In the same manner as the unmanifest value of hollowness within the seed comes up and sprouts as the infinite variety of the whole tree—the same way. That hollowness has all the memory of every leaf, of every branch, of everything, up to what extent they will grow and all. The whole thing is in terms of memory means in terms of its unmanifest, but very concrete, value because from there it springs. Same way as this unmanifest value—nothingness, the vacuum state—has all the memory and comes up sequentially evolving. There is no accident in it—sequentially evolving, sequentially evolving, the whole sequential evolution.

‘That is why there should be correct pronunciation, correct pronunciation. That is why those who eat wrong things damage their throats. The throat then is not so delicate; it is not so pure. All these drugs and all these dirty things—eating all the wrong things, all poisons, and all those things—make the physiology so hard that you can not pronounce “A” properly. If you can not pronounce “A” properly, your connection with the unmanifest, your connection with the total value of Natural Law, your connection with infinity, your connection with the Constitution of the Universe, is simply unavailable.

‘Those of wrong habits—just this one word, “wrong habits”—explains everything. All the religious books, and even non-religious books, on hygiene etc. teach us, “Eat this, do not eat this, eat this, do not eat this.” This eating and non-eating is described everywhere—everywhere. This is to save the basic ability in the existence of human life so it will remain connected; it will have the competence to consciously connect itself with the abstract unboundedness of cosmic life. That connection will be there.

‘For that, the programme of Yoga and all those six values of the Darshanas in the Vedic Literature—Yoga, Vaisheshika, Samkhya, Nyaya, Karma Mimamsa, Vedant—are structured in the unmanifest, and then they grow to become more concrete on the intellectual level, then mental level, then sensory level, and then behavioural level. All this sequential evolvement depends upon how much awareness the throat has, or the palate has—how correctly the “A”, “I”, “U”, of the Vedic alphabet can be pronounced. When they are not correctly pronounced, then the connection is disturbed.

‘When the connection of the individual with his cosmic potential is disturbed, then the individual is all the time wavering in the wilderness, getting nowhere, just wasting time. This is also now true in the field of education. The whole thing is on a very immature level so far—very immature level. Now this is a time to be rolling in the maturity of knowledge, in the maturity of the capability of doing anything. This is Raja’s training; this is Raja’s training.
