Opening Remarks

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. Now is the time for the world press to report what is happening practically in the world affairs. For fifty years, the world press has been reporting the principles of the Transcendental Meditation Programme and all the theories about it from science and technology. Now the time has come for the press to report the happenings, the consequences, of the people’s recognition of the principles of Transcendental Meditation.

‘From theory to practice, inform the press, Dr Hagelin. They will take it from you. You are the champion of this age. Your voice is the voice of time. Tell the press that the principles have been enunciated by the world press so widely, so far, and now they are established. Now is the time for them to report what is happening in all fields of human life on the level of individual and society in education, health, agriculture, engineering, music, arts—in every field of knowledge. The world press has helped to propagate the principles for fifty years, and now it is the time for the press to report what is actually happening as a result of the world-wide practice of Transcendental Meditation, which is a means of gaining higher states of consciousness.

‘It is the time to ring the bell of eureka. The world press has achieved the fruit of propagating the principles. Now, it can propagate the concrete results. This is the time. Total Knowledge is available for every field of knowledge that is open to human awareness. The practical application of Total Knowledge produces—I would use the word—“perfection” in life. Perfection in life means life free from dependence, free from inhibitions, free from problems.

‘The dawn of that time is the brilliant fortune of the people. This has appeared in the outbursts of open knowledge to get people out of the unfortunate houses in which they are living. Global construction, reconstruction of the world, is a phenomenon.

‘Tell their awareness to jump high and announce the achievement of that grand principle of higher states of consciousness through Transcendental Meditation which the world press started to radiate fifty years ago. Now, it is on the ground—concrete. Tell the world press to enjoy the effect of it. Enough songs have been sung of the glory of higher states of consciousness, bliss consciousness, Unity Consciousness—harmony. Now, there is a world in harmony, a world in higher states of consciousness.

‘It is a beautiful thing that we are witnessing. Ask the world press to ring the bell of eureka. This is the time for them to do it. Dr Hagelin, tell them that now the situation is beyond the principles. It is on the platform of technology, the utilization of the principles on every level of life from the beginning to the end of human existence.

‘It is very beautiful. Express to them the satisfaction of the developed leadership of our Movement who are now treasuring the goal of all the supreme pursuits in life, the goal of life in the light of God, life in bliss. Nations are going to rise. It will not be a long time now. It will not be a long time now, because we are creating that quality of world consciousness which is coherent, invincible.

‘Freedom: that quality has started to be created. Now we want to hear from the world that this is happening here, this is happening there. It is such a beautiful thing. Now is the time for the world press to rejoice in the practicality of the principle that they have been fondly propagating to the people—that this is right and this is right and this is right.

‘It is a beautiful thing. If there are any questions, it will be our joy to dwell on them, Dr Hagelin.’ 

Question: The Role of Switzerland

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, there is a very important question from the press that has come in from Switzerland. Today, Dr Felix Kägi, who is the Raja of Switzerland, has been interviewed by a reporter from L’illustré, the highly respected weekly news magazine of Switzerland. The reporter would like to ask the following question of Maharishi: Why have so many events been going on here in Geneva? Why this city? What is your plan for Switzerland? What role do you think Switzerland has to play in the world?’ 

Maharishi: ‘It is nothing new that the new plan has to be played by Switzerland. Switzerland has been a country that was providing peaceful, relaxed homes for the people throughout the ages. Born in that atmosphere, Raja Felix had a perception that “My country should provide an actual Heaven on Earth for the people.”

‘Switzerland is already taken to be Heaven on Earth, from its mountains and lakes and all the beautiful scenery, but Raja Felix of Switzerland woke up to the responsibility that “My country should have Heaven on Earth to host those from all over the world. People should come and enjoy Heaven on Earth.” He told me he would like to create seven heavens in all the big places of international tourism in Switzerland: Geneva, Basel, Zurich, etc.

‘He is a child of Switzerland. If there is anything that we can compare Raja Felix of Switzerland to today, we have the story of the four Swiss people who sat somewhere to decide they wanted their country to be free from the occupation of the Austrian government at that time. Four Swiss people were bold enough to decide this in Rütli, which is below Seelisberg where we had ten, twelve years of our international affairs.

‘What gives us the hope of the success of this inspiration of the Raja of Switzerland? What is there for success in him is his tradition, the freedom that he hails from his ancient tradition. Coming from this pure, holy tradition, I have all respect in him; I have all hope that he will be able to lead the present population of Switzerland to the heights of heaven.

‘The reconstruction of Geneva has come up as a new knowledge in the structuring dynamics of countries. This is a very great fortune that Raja Felix has come out with. It is a matter of knowledge. Here is a young, spirited child of Switzerland who says, “My country must be Heaven on Earth.” I have great pride in the young man, who is the offspring of the knowledge that has been going on in the world for the last how many years—the traditional knowledge of the Vedic Tradition. “Vedic Tradition” means the tradition of Veda, tradition of knowledge—not the tradition of ignorance.

‘The young, spirited Raja of Switzerland, Raja Felix, has the support of all the young Rajas from different countries. In all the conferences, they have been roaring like a lion in Geneva and have created a new voice in that international city, where they want to create peaceful, loving, fortunate homes for all the pilgrims of the world.

‘I have been listening to them in the beautiful conferences. It was such a joy. This is the inspiration of the young men of higher states of consciousness, raising a voice not yet heard on the platform of the history of the world—the voice of the Constitution of the Universe, the Constitution of Natural Law, the first voice in the world.

‘Life according to the Constitution of Universe: this is the voice of a supremely developed consciousness, Unity Consciousness, fully supported by all levels of mathematical calculations and conclusions and all the logic of the physical sciences. From everywhere, from every side, it has been looked upon as something supreme from every angle. This is that Constitution of the Universe, which is expressed in the physiology of everyone. All Americans, all Indians, all Chinese, all the people, birds, and animals, and everything in the whole universe is the expression of that total Natural Law, which we have realized now—the Constitution of the Universe, the law in the light of God.

‘This is the time for the realization of all the trends of religion throughout the ages, of all the pursuits of mankind throughout the ages. This is the climax of the achievement of that. That is why we say that the world press should now begin to announce that the practical living of these supreme, abstract principles, which were known to be philosophical treatises in the past, has come to be actualised in this scientific age.

‘This is the time. I remember the words spoken by Dr Eike Hartmann, the Vedic Architect. He said, “In this scientific age, all the mistakes of the past have to be corrected.” He was referring to the existing designs of homes and cities. He said that the mistakes in city planning and the mistakes in the planning of homes should be corrected, because this is the scientific age. The scientific age means that, on any level, there is complete openness of total reality. There is no hiding as before. All the mistakes of the past must be corrected. People should know that in the past, and even in the present, a lot of life was full of mistakes, full of cries and pains and suffering and all that—a huge, huge amount. The time is now for turning the tables.

‘It is a very beautiful thing that the world press, as the exponent of what is happening in the world, has a beautiful world at its disposal. With Dr Hagelin’s Peace Government—in one word—the total structure of a government of the universe is laid open. This is total wisdom, which is the total light of God in human awareness. Life is going to be in the will of God, as in the age-old prayer of mankind: “Thy will be done on earth, as in heaven.”

‘It is time for the world press to announce this. Dr Hagelin, it is such a joy for speech to bring out the structuring dynamics of Natural Law—total Natural Law—and lay it out practically for all the people in our world. Your Peace Government is peacefully creating invincible governments. Invincibility for the government is going to be the characteristic quality of every government. It does not matter that there is a little change of government here and there every few months, few years—one or two years—because the final product is going to be absolute freedom in bliss consciousness—invincibility to every nation.

‘All nations will be equally placed. It will be a United Nations. It will be a United Nations, which is really the fulfilment of all the aspirations of the political people and economic people in the past. It is beautiful fulfilment of all religions and all pursuits of knowledge. The world press will have its own pride in being with the time and propagating the waves of time as they come up, come up, come up. Now, peace is inspiring the dynamism of all life. This is the achievement of the supreme aspiration of a government.

‘Dr Hagelin, you were born to create a government of a supreme quality, where one would be spontaneously functioning in the light of God. Tell the press to report that the time is coming, day by day, week by week, month by month. It is time for the world press to be rejoicing in the rising waves of bliss.’

Question: The Details of Creation on the Level of Direct Subjective Experience

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you, Maharishi. There is obviously an extremely unique opportunity for the press to declare eureka today.

‘Maharishi, the world’s foremost quantum physicists have developed highly successful Unified Field theories, such as the superstring, which describe the field of unity that underlies our diverse universe, the field of unity that underlies the diverse particles and forces that comprise the universe. But there is a branch of particle physics called experimental particle physics, and a special breed of physicists called particle experimentalists who spend millions of dollars and years of their lives looking for new particles in order to confirm the minute details of these Unified Field theories.

‘Our Maharishi University of Management students, gathered here in Constitution Hall with me now, will soon visit the world’s largest particle accelerator in nearby Fermilab in Chicago. It appears that these giant machines are soon to become obsolete museums, because even as powerful as they are, they cannot really begin to explore the deepest levels of nature at the grand unified and superunified levels. These are levels of unified reality that the human brain can so easily explore on the level of consciousness through the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programmes.

‘Does Maharishi foresee a time soon when everything one could possibly want to know about these deeply unified layers of creation—all the details of the Unified Field and the Constitution of the Universe—will be fully transparent on the level of direct subjective experience. And will these particle accelerators, the modern microscopes of our age, truly become relics of times past?’

Maharishi: ‘That will just be what the first cognizer of the Veda is. As tradition has known it, the seer Rishi Madhuchchhandas sees. What does he see? He sees the first syllable of the Veda, “A”, Agnimile Purohitam. This is how the Veda proceeds. He sees “A”, and in “A”, he sees the total Veda.

‘We can have an example. In a banyan seed or in a tiny seed of a guava, there is hollowness. Within that hollowness, if one could see, is the entire tree and all the mechanics of the dynamics of the unmanifest seed. The whole tree is there. This is seeing the entire tree in the hollowness of the seed. This means that the whole dynamic activity, the entire dynamism, is seen within the unmanifest field. This is the total Veda.

‘This total Veda then flows. It flows into Agnimile Purohitam. The sequential emergence of the Veda is just as Dr Hagelin was saying. Ultimately, human awareness will be flowing in terms of the speech of the Veda, in terms of the language of the Veda, in terms of the sound of the Veda. That is Vedic recitation, having the Totality, and then, in sequence, Totality unfolding itself, infinity unfolding itself, into many, many points—unfolding to the point. This is exactly what will happen when the perception of these physical values comes to an end, and the consciousness value continues in its more and more refined value until the infinity comes to a point.

‘Point to infinity is the flow of the Veda—the flow of the knowledge of the Constitution of the Universe. All the mechanics of transformation of the unmanifest into manifest—this process which we call science and technology—will be the ultimate thing. That is where there is the perception of these finer particles. We call it a “particle accelerator”. There are particles and then the most—what we say—you squeeze the particle into something, consciousness, higher states of consciousness. That is the Atma, the Self of everyone, Being, the be-all and end-all of everything, the Self of everything, the total field of knowledge.

‘The pursuit of modern science is getting into the sequentially refining values of creation and, ultimately, coming to recognize the abstract, unmanifest value in terms of the very concrete whole tree, which is there in the unmanifest. The pursuit of modern science is in that direction which is the structure of the Veda, the flow of the Veda. This is Vedic Civilization, which studies that and makes the awareness of a human child, a human being, into that ability that functions in the light of God, that functions on the level of all possibilities.

‘This is the extreme value of the scientific investigation of knowledge. It ends up in enabling human consciousness to be a lively field of all possibilities. The word “all possibilities” is a reality on that level. It is not an empty word; it is not an emotional word. It is a concrete reality, where one is on the level of creating through desiring. This is stirring the field of the Devas—stirring the field of Creative Intelligence on its own level—the world of the Devas, the world of the administrators of the universe.

‘It is a beautiful level. Whatever it explores has the potential putting that which is abstract Natural Law onto the concrete platform of expression. On this level is “Brahma Bhavati Sarati”—the Creator becomes the charioteer of our action, the conductor of the physical chariot, the body, to do everything. It is a beautiful field of knowledge, and we are going to lay it open to all our children for all future generations. The world will be a beautifully reported, perfect life.

‘Your structuring dynamics of the Peace Government are going to unfold this through education, through health programmes, through the architectural reconstruction programmes. All these different values of knowledge are going to be very complete and free from any wrong implications. It is very good. Tell the press that a good time has come for them to report now. The time has come to report.’

Question: The Effect of Coherent Collective Consciousness

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. Yes, it is obviously the time now for the press to enjoy and report the transformation of civilization, which is coming so quickly.

‘Is there a cause-and-effect relationship between rising coherence in world consciousness and the upheaval in the leadership of certain nations? If so, how does coherent collective consciousness bring about changes in leadership?’

Maharishi: ‘The same way as, under the sun, the light is there. Anybody can break his knees and head and all that, in the darkness. In the light, there is harmony, everything. It is the same activity, but without any damage to anyone. In the darkness, the same activity is damaging to everyone.

‘These are differences in the quality of world consciousness. Incoherent world consciousness, as it is today, has all kinds of differences. With coherent national consciousness, absolutely everything good happens to everyone. It is just a matter of whether life is lived on the level of Total Knowledge, or life is lived in the ignorance of Total Knowledge. For that, we have all these levels of consciousness—deep sleep state of consciousness, dreaming state of consciousness, waking state of consciousness. One is more alert, one is less alert, like that. So the answer is very simple.’
