Opening Remarks

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. I have only one word this week to say to the world press. I only want to repeat what has been said and promised repeatedly, year after year. Now I only repeat that a very bright fortune of the whole human race is about to rise.
 
‘This confirmation comes out of what has been achieved and what seems to be visible to us for achievement very quickly. Instead of speaking further, I would invite the pleasure of the world press. If there are any questions still there, it will be good to clear them now. We can keep on clearing, as is the habit of the gardener to keep on clearing as the plant grows. This clearing allows the plant to grow in a systematic manner.
 
‘Dr Hagelin, allow the plant to grow in a systematic manner and keep on clearing if there are any unnecessary offshoots here and there.’

Question: Producing Self-Sufficiency for the Poor

Dr Hagelin: ‘Yes, Maharishi, we will clear the weeds of ignorance with some very good questions, very thoughtful questions, on Maharishi’s global project to reconstruct the entire world to be in harmony with Natural Law. This is a question that pertains to this new project. A top global economist was quoted this week in the Associated Press as saying that foreign aid, as it is currently practiced by wealthy nations and financial institutions, is actually the cause of poverty in the world, not the solution. The economist, James Shikwati, says that poor nations become weak and dependent on handouts from wealthy nations rather than making their own people strong and economically self-sufficient. How will the Global Country of World Peace’s Global Reconstruction Programme, which aims to provide free homes for hundreds of millions of poor people, make these same people strong and self-sufficient to reduce their poverty, rather than just make them dependent on the Global Country?’ 

Maharishi: ‘We not only provide comfortable living conditions for the body, but also provide living conditions for the mind through the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique which makes the mind blissful, happier, and the intellect more capable of making right decisions. Automatically, more and more of Natural Law comes to be practiced in a spontaneous manner.
 
‘We have these two, three approaches: physical comfort by providing good living conditions, good homes, good clothing, good everything, and time for practicing and these prayers and meditation morning and evening, and cultural celebrations. The poor people have to work at nights. Then even the mothers at home do not have time to nourish the children; they have also to work. All these practices will stop when the men will work. Mothers will not be put to hard work. Children will not be put to work. They will be given good education and good meditation to improve their creativity.
 
‘With this whole educational system and the whole system to deal with the poor, God willing, very soon we will have no poverty in any country. Only, in the beginning, we have to put a lot of wealth into providing proper living homes and time for them.
 
‘Not everyone has to work. There should be a proportion. When mothers at home are made to work, they are never available to the children. “Never” means very rarely available to the children. What happens? Every generation of new children comes out to be weaker and weaker. Without the awareness of the mother, children become weaker and weaker in every generation. It is a very heavy loss to national life.
 
‘It is so surprising—I am talking about the stupidity of the governments today—that not enough wealth is spent on life. More is spent on roads, more roads, two-lane roads, four-lane roads—on superficialities. When they come to a government, these people, who themselves are poor, have huge wealth. They do not know how to spend, “All right, two more lanes, four more lanes.” Spend time in education. Teach meditation to the children so that the mind is more full of bliss, and they are able to think more clearly according to total Natural Law.
 
‘Health is so precarious. In modern medicine, such great poison is there. On every bottle of the medicine, harmful side effects are printed. Just by printing side effects, it does not become a scientific medicine. It is not a good situation. All these situations will be taken care of by positivity rising in the national consciousness, integration rising in national consciousness, affluence rising in national consciousness.
 
‘It is not only what the present wealthy people do. It is natural for wealthy to feel compassionate to the poor; it is natural for them to give money. Money giving is all right. It is natural for the rich to give money to the poor, but it does not solve the basis of poverty.
 
‘We are going to create a few groups here, there, everywhere in the world. Then the whole world consciousness will rise in coherence and positivity. Therefore, all these negative trends, which are poisonous to life, and these practices, prevalent in the governments where so many wrong things are happening, will not happen.
 
‘This is the prevention-oriented administration of the Peace Government. We have the total knowledge of Natural Law from infinity to point, and we know how to put together all points, and we know how to spread infinity into points and collect all points in infinity. We are the technologists of total Natural Law; therefore, we can manage to have total Natural Law in favour of what we want the national consciousness to be. 

‘What do we want? We want national consciousness in every country to be integrated, to be positive. No negative trends and no diseases will have to be faced by anyone. We are creating the practicalities of life. We are going to stop talking more and more, and all our time is going to be in our actions.’

Question: Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi, for that beautiful answer. Maharishi Vedic Organic Agricultural production is the economic engine that is really fueling our capability to rebuild the world—all the homes, office buildings, clinics, schools, and colleges. Questions have come up about what Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture is. The Associated Press reports this month that the demand for organic food is growing as much as twenty percent per year, and that Certified Organic cropland in the U.S. has grown by well over seventy-five percent. Maharishi has said that his Vedic approach to growing organic food is far superior to conventional organic food. The question is: What added benefits to nutrition do Vedic Organic Foods provide that are not found in traditionally grown organic foods? And what is the role of food in Maharishi’s master plan to create world peace?’ 

Maharishi: ‘ “The role of food” means the role of proper food, the role of healthy food, not the role of poisonous food.

‘Everyone experiences that musical sounds are very pleasing. Musical sounds are pleasing to man, to the animals, to the birds, to everything; they are also pleasing to plants. It has been researched so much already that plants grow better and produce healthier fruits if they are exposed to melodies.
 
‘Now, amongst all melodies, the melodies of the Veda are the melodies of the nourishing, evolutionary quality of Natural Law. Veda is the flow of perfection. When the sound of the Veda is available to the plants, they rejoice with healthier growth, healthier existence, and radiate health. All their leaves, their branches, and their fruits become very healthy.
 
‘This is what Vedic Organic Agriculture is. The plants are given Vedic melodies to listen to. In ancient India, when the parents were going to the fields, the children were also going to the fields, and the children were reciting the Veda. In that way, they were learning the Veda. They were learning the Veda, and the Vedic Sounds were received by the growing crops. The crops were healthier, and the atmosphere, air, water, earth—everywhere—was healthier. Seasons were very favorable to health.  

‘The whole thing is very natural for growth. “Natural life” means life in the direction of growth, in the direction of perfection—more and more. Healthy organic agriculture means the agriculture is most profound.
 
‘ “Agriculture” means “to agree with the culturing agency”. What is the culturing agency? The evolutionary creative intelligence of Natural Law is the culturing agency—automatically. Everything that is there is put to growth, whether plants, animals, man or whatever; it is put to evolution. Vedic Vibrations are the vibrations of the evolution of life. Exposing man to these, man grows in an evolutionary direction; plants grow in an evolutionary direction.  

‘All this has to be in education. That is why we are opening these universities, colleges, and schools throughout, because education is not enough. We can openly and truthfully say it is a waste of life; education is a waste of life. In these ten, twelve years, human awareness can be so perfectly in tune with Natural Law that it would function like a cosmic computer. Whenever you the press button, you get instantly.

‘From that possibility, the present-day education is only useless and plainly a waste of time.  It does not matter. So many wrong things have been going on and are there in society, but all wrong will disappear as our programme comes up more and more, blossoms in the consciousness more and more, in the same way as the darkness only disappears when the light is lit.
 
‘Today I am only confirming that this thing is going on. Every day, we are more and more helpful to the temperature of good fortune for mankind that is continuously, day by day and hour by hour now, rising, rising, rising.

‘This is the hope for the world. It won’t be very long. We will see that we have achieved the onset of light, and we have achieved the automatic disappearance of darkness, ignorance, suffering, and wrong things. It is very good.’

Question: The Time Needed to Build One Billion New Homes

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. The most ambitious urban developments and nation-building projects throughout recorded history absolutely pale in comparison to Maharishi’s plan to rebuild the entire world according to Sthapatya Veda by building one billion new homes in harmony with Natural Law. What is Maharishi’s plan, and in what countries will Maharishi start this incomprehensibly enormous project? And what is the estimated time for completion of one billion homes?’ 

Maharishi: ‘One billion homes could take the time that is required to build one home, if not, maybe the time required to build two homes, one after the other. Even then, maybe it would take the time required to build three homes one after the other—one, two, three—because all the builders of the world are being invited to start in their own territory. All the builders of the world are being invited to earn as much as they would their in own profession building as many houses. People are being informed that knowing the correct orientation of their home and their working places plays a great part in the success of their life, in the health of their life, and in thinking properly.
 
‘We have taken this construction of the world as our target, because as long as people do not live in properly oriented homes, they can never experience peace in life. There is no other way. And because we are not restricting our activity, we are raising a global voice. We hope that our voice will reach all the builders everywhere.
 
‘When those who are in the building profession receive the invitation to build here, build there, very quickly one billion homes could be built up. It won’t be built up by one person, two people or three—no. We have only laid out a policy; this is what is needed. This policy is being given out to all the builders through our worldwide organization. Fortunately, we have people everywhere.
 
‘Those who are in the profession of building will build the world. They are not one, two, three or four, here and there. Everywhere there is a builder. In every village of every country, there is a builder. Wherever there are builders—and everywhere there are builders—the builders will rebuild the world.
 
‘Now the knowledge is there, and we have full knowledge. We have come out to give out this knowledge. Therefore, those who are professional builders will rebuild the world within three months, six months, nine months, one year. That is all the time it should take. It should not take much time.’  

Question: Declaration of the Dawn of Sat Yuga

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi. This is a question on the dawn of Sat Yuga. Maharishi describes Sat Yuga as Heaven on Earth—a time of no violence, no problems, no suffering. While I see that there are definitely signs of peace rising in different parts of the world, it still seems that there’s a way to go before we can declare Heaven on Earth. What does Maharishi see that I do not yet see that allows him to declare with such confidence the rise of Heaven on Earth?’ 

Maharishi: ‘Because all the time we experience, everyone experiences, that the clouds give out only a drop of water, drop by drop, drop by drop. A builder here, a builder there—one, one, one, one builder, builder, builder—in a year, millions of builders will have built up millions of homes. That number will be just by building one by one, one by one, one by one, and that is all.

 ‘After all, supposing a man lives a hundred years, how does he live? By one little breath in, one little breath out. That one little breath in, that is all—the one little breath in. So little by little, little by little, little by little—it is a practical thing. We have launched upon this with those whose profession it is to build, whose life it is to build, as the basis.
 
‘How are we hopeful to do it quickly? Because every builder in the world, whether he is a builder of a village or a builder of a city, is always anxious to have more orders and more orders and more orders. When he has unlimited orders, and as much as he can build, he can continue to build on and on and on. The construction of the whole world is not going to take much time. It should not take much time, because everyone wants to have a bright future, everyone wants to get out of his sickness, and everyone wants to get out of his poverty and all negativity.
 
‘We are getting work done by those who are professionally trained to do it, that is all. It is only a matter of how soon the world press can enter the homes in every country, in every village. Soon we will have the world reconstructed, rebuilt. A beautiful new dawn of the destiny of the world, it is such a delightful thing.’ 

 Question: The Impact of the Orientation of Homes

Dr Hagelin: ‘Yes, thank you very much, Maharishi. There is one more question that has to do with the impact of the orientation of homes. Maharishi has made a very strong central point in his Global Reconstruction Programme that improperly oriented buildings are the root cause of a wide range of very serious problems in life. Why does orientation have such a huge impact on a person’s life? How can something as simple and seemingly innocent as the direction of a building create such extraordinarily good or bad effects?’ 

Maharishi: ‘It is very simple. When you move towards the east, you are facing the sun. When you go towards the west, your back is facing the sun, and your face is facing your shadow. So either you face a shadow or you face the sun.
 
‘Directionality has a great influence on how the brain functions. Tell them about what we have been hearing all the time: that the brain shoots differently in different directions, when you face north, south, east, or west. Now, brain mapping is going on in our own lab and in so many other labs of the world to measure the brain waves. What they have found is that with good melodies, brain waves are coherent and the physiology is very healthy; otherwise, it is topsy-turvy. It is the physical influence of the sound that one hears or of the sight that one sees. All the senses of gaining knowledge and the senses of action have their influence.
 
‘I think that “Man is made in the image of God” means that he is capable of nourishing everything or, if one is naughty, he is capable of punishing everyone. So why go the path of punishment?
 
‘We can invite our great teacher of the world to speak. He is now the Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace and is managing the structuring of administration of the Global Country so beautifully. With this competence, all the governments will quietly begin to feel nourishment. They may not know from where the nourishment comes, but soon, when the nourishment will be of a bigger degree, they have to go for it. When they go for it, they have all the resources of the nation and have all the confidence of the people. In one fell swoop, in one stroke, they will create a new world. That will be Heaven on Earth. It won’t take much time.’
