Opening Remarks

Maharishi: ‘Jai Guru Dev. I was interested to know if the world press has seen any sign of increasing harmony or betterment, because we have started our programme of invincibility to every government, our programme to create highly intensified coherence in world consciousness. Like one candle light, and then two candle lights, three candles, we are gathering more and more candle lights. We expect that the light should increase, and darkness decrease.
 
‘Before I hear from the world press what good signs are appearing on the world horizon, I would like Dr Feldman, who has been sending publicity to the governments and the press, to tell the world press about our programme that we are offering to the world. We have started, in whatever small way. As the ball rolls on, it will gather more and more moss. If Dr Feldman is available to us, he could tell the world press about our latest phase of publicity.’

Dr Feldman: ‘Jai Guru Dev. Maharishi’s offer of invincibility for every nation and enlightenment to the individual has been announced most succinctly throughout the world in the International Herald Tribune in February on two occasions, in March, and now in the last week on Friday and Monday. The proclamation, announcement, and invitation to gain invincibility for every nation has appeared, and the training programme was hereby announced by Maharishi Vedic University in Holland.’

‘The press is invited to compare and see what is the result of the knowledge of administration and how knowledge of total Natural Law is utilized and brings about invincibility for every nation. Jai Guru Dev.’ 

Maharishi: ‘It is very fortunate that the world is going to be a better world, whether the present governments undertake to do it, or the present governments undertake to watch and feel that they are rising in coherence, fearlessness, and freedom, with less problems and less negative things. They are going to do it by their actions, or they will be fortunate to have it from somebody else doing it in the world. They will enjoy the benefit of it. We are happy that our world family is going to enjoy. We are very happy that whether they do it for themselves or not, they are going to enjoy with us, because we enjoy giving them the joy of life without problems. 

‘We have a parental role. Vedic civilization has always had that parental role for the whole population of the world, because Vedic Knowledge is the basic knowledge from where life springs, from where life grows. All that is there.
 
‘Dr Hagelin, proclaim to them that they are now destined to enjoy. Whether they want it or not, they will have to enjoy life. It is going to be a better world, going to be Heaven on Earth. It is very beautiful.
 
‘Tell me any sign of darkness lessening in the world, any sign of harmony increasing.’

Dr Hagelin: ‘Yes, thank you very much, Maharishi. The signs of positive transformation are continuing, perhaps even at an accelerating pace, and seem to involve India very centrally, and then India’s periphery, its neighbours, and the whole of Asia, spreading already to some degree across the world. Maharishi predicted this would happen just a few weeks ago, because as Maharishi said today, we are already implementing groups of Vedic Pandits, expert Yogic Flyers, and experts in using the Vedic technologies of prevention known as Yagya and Graha Shanti. These are very powerful approaches to prevent violence from arising, to defuse negativity, and to promote positive trends. Such groups have been established by Maharishi in India and are growing in size day by day with increasing numbers. It is like adding more and more candles to a field of light and increasing the intensity of light, which is beginning to shine to the point where it is becoming noticeable across the world.’

Question: Taking Credit for a Better Time Dawning

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, a question from the press has arisen in the context of all this global good news. Several members of the world press have commented on how calming and reassuring it is to hear you say that a better time is dawning for the world and that through your efforts, mankind is leaving behind an age of destruction and entering a new time of peace. The question they all ask is: What can be done to ensure that Maharishi himself receives the credit from the world for this enlightened new age instead of other governments or religious organizations and so forth, who may try to take credit for the transformation themselves?’ 

Maharishi: ‘It does not matter to whom the credit goes. Everyone has to leave the world and go somewhere. It is not a matter of who gets the credit. It is a matter of the world becoming better and better. In the deep darkness, we have started to put a candle light, because we have only a candle light. Seeing us doing it alone, somebody says, “All right, take my candle light also. You put it also and make two candles.” A third man comes and says, “Put my candle.” A fourth man also does like that. With candle after candle coming together, the light increases, darkness decreases.  

‘That is our situation. With whatever little resources we have, we begin to hire them. We begin to engage the Vedic Pandits, and they begin to do the Yagyas. Whatever we know, we are starting; in whatever little measure, we are starting.  

‘What we are doing is authentic, because it is the text of the Veda—the eternal script. The Veda is eternal script, and it is not humanly conceived. The Vedas are not written by human beings. They are Nature’s, the quality of Natural Law.
 
‘As we keep on gathering resources, more and more Vedic Pandits and more and more groups of Yogic Flyers here and there, more and more coherence is rising in the world, and more and more peace and happiness are beginning to be enjoyed. It is very simple.
 
‘We have been talking for fifty years, and a number of people have responded in the world and have practised our programmes. Looking to the large population of the world, this number is very small, but nevertheless, there is something. There is at least a candle. Now we keep on adding more and more candles, and the darkness will simply disappear. That is all—simple. 

‘That is our joy. Quietly, we do what we do. What we can do, we will do. We invite other people to join us if they think it is a good thing to make other people happy. It is a very simple thing. 

‘We are on the way. See how soon or how a long time until we are able to proclaim eureka. We will proclaim eureka when it becomes irreversible. When there is a big, huge candle light, it will be able to sustain itself even with a lot of winds from all directions. That is what we want to do. We want to increase our candle light with as many candles as possible so that even the stormy winds will not be able to put out the light.
 
‘I think we are enjoying with confidence. We are inviting the world press to inform their governments that they can do better as governments. Engage some groups, and get them trained. We will train these groups of peace-creating forces.
 
‘It is very good that Dr Hagelin is getting a good response from the wise people, the scientific researchers in the world. They will be at the basis of the Peace Government. Quietly, they will produce that effect of harmony in world consciousness. It is very good. Possibilities are there—candle after candle, candle after candle.’  

Question: The Speech of the Rajas and Law

Dr Hagelin: ‘Maharishi, a deep question has arisen on the idea of leadership training, the training of Rajas. The corruption in politics has undermined governments and destroyed nations throughout history, and yet Maharishi recently made an intriguing comment about the relationship between the leaders of society and the law. Maharishi said that law is not something that exists outside of the administrator, which he learns and then speaks out, but instead law is the spontaneous speech of the administrator. Maharishi explained it is not the law of the administrator, it is the administrator who speaks out the law. What can be done to assure that when administrators speak, they are speaking out a just and fair law?’ 

Maharishi: ‘They are trained. They are trained in the science and art of thinking. The science and art of thinking is how to promote a thought so that the thought is propelled by total Natural Law. The thought is propelled by the intelligence of total Natural Law and the creative energy of total Natural Law. This training of the Rajas is the training to engage total Natural Law to work for us. It is a matter of a technique. It is a matter of technique to take the mind to the transcendental, self-referral level of consciousness and be awake there, and consciously promote a thought. The thought will have the power of the infinite creative intelligence of self-referral consciousness—infinite creative intelligence. 

‘They are trained to do it. It is not a matter of their individual performance, but a matter of the performance of the cosmic mind when their individual mind is making an effort of thinking. It is a technique of thinking. The whole thing is very simple.
 
‘The whole thing is very simple because every thought that rises, rises from about that area of inner consciousness. When, through the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying, the individual mind is trained to promote a thought from that settled state of consciousness, then the thought is promoted by total Natural Law and is instantly fulfilled.  

‘When we say “administration through education”, this is the education that we give to the mind of the student and to the intellect of the student. In one word, we say, to the consciousness of the student. Every thought of his will be promoted from that level which is the lively level of total Natural Law, and that means the total creativity of human intelligence. The total creativity of human intelligence is the cosmic creativity of the galactic universe. 

‘When we find these connections—individual to cosmic—it is such a great joy to find them and to talk about it, and such a great joy to enjoy the practicality of it in daily life. It is a very great thing. Because it is great, because it is simple, we hope it will go very quickly in the world market. Whatever the situation today, whatever the darkness of the night, with one big torchlight coming up, darkness has no place anymore. This is the society that is going to come up with these efforts of self-referral intelligence.
 
‘It is a beautiful thing. There is no chance taking in it. One does not take a chance, because it is sure for everyone. Why? Because everyone’s nature, everyone’s Atma, has that quality in it which is the quality of total Natural Law and total organizing power of Natural Law. It is very simple and beautiful.’  

Question: The The Approach of Maharishi’s Vedic Medicine

Dr Hagelin: ‘Thank you very much, Maharishi, for that beautiful answer. There is a practical question on the health care crisis of today and our alternative solution. Interest in alternative and complementary medicine continues to escalate worldwide. For example, a poll released last week found that almost seventy per cent of the population in the USA believes that alternative therapies could be as beneficial or more beneficial than Western medicine. Younger people are even more inclined to accept alternatives. Only twenty-four per cent of young people today believe Western medicine is the only legitimate way of diagnosing and treating health problems. The growing rejection of Western medicine has left a huge void in health care, with people seeking out a wide range of alternatives. Why should people specifically seek out Maharishi’s Vedic Medicine? How will his Vedic approach better serve the needs of the people?’ 

Maharishi: ‘Because the physiology, the body part of life, is made of the Veda. It is Vedic. The body, the physiology, is Vedic. Modern medicine treats the body on the level of the body. The Vedic approach to health treats the body from its cause. The cause of the physical body is consciousness, and consciousness is just the flow of intelligence, the flow of awareness, the flow of consciousness.
 
‘With the flow of consciousness, applied to the physiological transformation of consciousness—that means the body—the treatment is from the causal level. That is why the body’s own inner intelligence cures the body. The body’s inner intelligence itself is inspired by the whisper of the Vedic melodies, and it adjusts the disorderly functioning of the physiology.
 
‘Modern medicine is all right, whatever research they have made, but these side effects are horrible. The world has known it. Allopathy will continue as long as this Vedic approach is not thoroughly practised by the people in the world.
 
‘It is an approach of consciousness. When you want the leaf and the tree, the branches, flowers, fruits, all to be nourished, then the technique is to water the root from where the sap takes nourishment and orderly functioning. Like that, consciousness or the mind is a great vehicle for life to be absolutely as one would like.
 
‘One could, even unknowingly, begin to use this or that, and one may either be taking the right thing to do, the right vibration, or taking something wrong. That is why we just go by the tradition of the Vedic Pandits. Authenticity lies in just doing what the Veda says. The Veda says, “Do this, do this, do this.” We will do that and that, and the result will be with us.
 
‘It is a very good thing. Only, it is taking time to reach the people, and there are so many factors. We have been talking about those values: Sthapatya Ved for engineering, and for prevention and for cure. All these are very valuable realities of the basis of all physical life in consciousness.
 
‘It is a beautiful thing. In this, how we can describe it is that we use the body’s own inner intelligence to correct the disorders of the physiological functioning. We inspire the body’s own inner intelligence. We inspire the body’s own inner intelligence to function, and once the inner intelligence functions, it puts in order any disorderly functioning that has started. It is a beautiful means of cure, of prevention, of everything, without any outside medicines.

‘We are satisfied that something is heard to be better in some part of the world. This is a general indication that something is happening. We are aware how small our efforts are, but even a small candlelight in a pitch dark room will begin to bring some hope for betterment, even of some small measure.’
